Would you think twice or even reject a job offer if your reporting officer is an Indian? either local or from india type.

There are some traits that we must be aware of. And understanding them would probably help your judgement and decision making. Let's not pretend we don't know.

Yes, think twice because you would probably be more careful to look for the known traits and clarify. But to reject the offer simply because of the race is plain stupid.

My current boss is an Indian. And I really enjoy working with him.

i asked because worked with indian bosses before and they really squeeze you dry....heard many bad stories about working with indian boss...they are very diffcult to work with especially those from India.

There's no need to think twice or reject a job offer because the direct superior is a indian.

it doesn't mean that working with a chinese will have more benefit then working with an indian.

after all, it's not the skin color that say you are a good person or bad person.

can understand your concerns.

i would think twice but end day also have to see how the position sits in with the rest of my CV and whether the job end day is really what i want. if it is then have to weigh if it's worth the perceived trouble, because in any case no matter how strong your ingrained prejudices are, there is still a chance it may be unfounded with some individuals.

I knew my boss is a good negotiator. In a way, yes. he can 'eat me' but I also saw the part I can truly learn from as well. I just have to be smart not to be taken advantage and gain a level ground.

i would say some bosses from india are better than the local indian bosses. my current boss is indian too and he is one of the nicest boss i have met.

i had horrendous experience with a singaporean chinese manager.

my boss is an indian too and he's very nice. protective of his subordinates and he leads by example.

ya i encounter a lot of indian colleagues too in my jobs...some are really jia lat.

anyway it's just luck-whether you get a good boss or not. certainly you can't just judge by his skin colour.

understand that shouldnt worry so much. just tat i have bad experience with indians. maybe their culture. make me work till midnight and not friendly.

I will think twice.

I have this extremely sensitive sense of smell. Certain Indian body odour (jasmine, curry smell) will trigger a bad migraine & giddiness.

sh!t man... this reminds me of some politially very incorrect questions... with a snake involved.

but i would think the quality of a person would be the most impt. If u get an opportunity to learn from very sharp leaders who are good in what they do, their 'character' may count for little consideration if u're looking to hone your skills.

some of the sharpest pple in their industries have lousy reputations... some may attribute it to their race or nationality, but it's really insignificant. u need to assess if it's relevant to what u want.

let's put it this way, some of us sporeans like to use our nationality to put other pple down, or feel superior... it's nothing new in this world. Look at the Individual pls. on a personal scale - i have picked up alot of wit and fast thinking n thought-processing prior rebuttals - from the local indian brothers. almost impeccable.

It is really crap to judge base on nationality.

There are a lot of very smart Indians .. far smarter than us Singaporeans.

I was amazed by my friend's Indian son. Only 4 years of age but can do maths and read...

Don't be so stupid to judge people by skin colour or smell.

Some of them can even speak perfect hokkien.. when they are talking if you don't look at them, you can believe they are the super ah beng...

If you were working in America or Australia and heading a department, and they judge your abilities based on your ethnicity - would you think that it's fair?

Oh, Chinese manager. Must be shrewd, conniving, work them to the bone with meagre pay, know kungfu...

It's not judging the nationality or race but I'm judging the SMELL. If its a chinese who have this body odor (jasmine + curry), i will think twice too.
It's a kind of allergies especially to asthma patients, sometimes its bad migraine or shortness of breath.

But not all Indians have the SMELL. no? Your health reasons has nothing to do with race. So, why would you think twice just because boss is Indian? This is the question. Neither has it to do with TS.

So, I don't see your relevance of your post.

chocolatte,

the question is about accepting a boss who is Indian - so how is your post relevant.

You are just prejudice just because some Indians have smell and don't have to hide by prejudice by alluding to smells triggering your migraine or shortness of breadth.

thomas,

Don't have to ask what..

During the interview, sure can smell..

Or she will walk out immediately if the interviewer is Indian?

sm, if cannot smell on that day (maybe he put a lot of perfume to mask), then must ask right since she saw he/she is an Indian?

get the drift? indian = smell (from her context)

i didn't know abt jasmine or curry smell... it's like the first time i'm hearing this... quite sad to have a world without curries, i really can't imagine losing one of the great cuisine! anyway it's NOT body odour leh...

pls correct me if i'm wrong, cos my recollection of the 'smell' is that of coconut oil? and that is like something which isn't even common nowadays... i can't really rem smelling it in my daily working life and events... think it's Retro to me liao.

Thomas, however, TS is not chocolate either and does not have the same medical prob. For me, totally inappropriate and irrelevant comment frankly.
