Catholic Brides

AnitaA - Mia is from BlissfulThots. She is not St Teresa Church Florist.

Suwaiwai - Great intuition on choosing Mia! I even gave her an extra token (ok angbao) because i felt she deserved more than what she charged me. You are in good hands

Hi Andrea
Fr Vaz said that they are shuffling the priests around in Aug, I think the new parish priest for SFX is Fr Bosco (er I think that is how you spell his surname). Fr Ho will be the asst parish priest at St Anne's. I dunno how many priests will be affected by transfers tho.

They've really decreased the time a priest spends in a parish nowadays. Talk about playing muscial chairs, if one guys shifts you can be pretty sure a whole bunch of 'em will be shifting too.

Thanks suwaiwai...coz I then need to check with the new parish priest about something for my own wedding =P

How's ur preps coming along? =P

hey gals, great news!
I got news from Joyce, the church secretary that Fr Ho will still be doing all the weddings he promised to officiate after he leaves so no need to headache! Woo hoo! =P

yeah there's a transfer of priest this coming Aug. Fr Kenny from St Anne's going to Christ The King and Fr Anthony Ho coming to St Anne's.

My celebrant is Fr Kenny, he said it's ok tat he comes back St Anne to do my wedding next year but yet to confirm cos he's going to holy land beginning of June 09. If he cant be my celebrant then i'll have to ask Fr Anthony. So worried. Headache.

Hi Lorraine, I think it's okay if a priest frm another parish presides at weddings. Just that the parish priest should be informed. Perhaps you could check with him how long he'll be at the holy land and gauge frm there?

Hi Andrea,
My prep is gg well. Just need to settle the song selection with Philip and check if he/his wife will be the ones who will do the intercessions and responsorial psalms for me or do I need to get my readers to do that. And those 'pls stand' 'pls be seated', whether I need to find someone to do that or does his wife cover that?? All the little little details la.

Fr Vaz is ok with my readings and booklet so I think I'm almost there. How abt yrself??

hi suwaiwai, not too bad...just waiting for next yr to come =P hahaha the "pls stand pls sit" they will do..I think if u need him to do the responsorial psalm n all that he can do, but if u got readers to do, also can..=P Coz i did for my fren...then phillip did the gospel acclaimation =)

So you guys booked Phillip for your wedding?
How much does he cost for the day?
care to share? Wat about his contacts?
Thanks.

Hi,

Does groom have to "stay" in Church? And he cannot fetch the bride (on brideman). Bride will have to come by to Church with the "withness"?

Pls advice!

Appreciated!

Hi Hui Ling, there is no fixed rule. I had one Catholic friend who met her hubby at church. Another one had the gatecrash/ fetch the bride first, and then they went to church.

Tay Hui Ling:
Femme is right. No fixed rule. Traditionally the english dont have gate-crashing, so meet direct in church, bride only appears when bell rings. Chinese got gate-crashing (which of course some couples here choose to do without). So it is entirely up to the couple.

For my case: We had short gate-crashing, then went to church together. But i remain in the car, until bell ring, processional music starts, then walk down aisle with my dad (kids & bridesmaids walk in front of us), while all along Groom is at altar with bestman. Btw it is ok to walk down aisle with groom (more photo-taking oppoitunities).

Cheers!

hi everyone.. disappeared for a long time from here.. too much work

Got a couple of questions...

1) How much "hong bao" did you give the priest and altar boys? Anyone else?

2) Will be doing my reception in TPY central CC multi purpose hall as Risen Christ has kind of a limited timing for the usage of the church hall...
Any ideas for any companies that rents out tables and do decor? As my aunts are cooking a eurasian fare....

Thanks in advance!

Tay Hui Ling: I'm planning to have my future husband meet me at the altar in church and do away with the gate crashing and bride-pick-up thing.
I just have an impression of the groom see-ing his wife for the first time as a bride walking down the aisle.. seem so romantic like the movies lol

FSS: wow.. your gown is very nice and unique

Very fairytale like!

Hi Fss & Andrea,
I am helping my gf to plan her church wedding but we are clueless. Her hubby is a Catholic and she is not. They are having only lunch reception. Can I have your Actual day programe and your service booklet so that I could assist in her planning?
Pls send it to [email protected]

hi oscar, ur sweet for helping ur fren...
my own wedding is only next yr but I can send some booklet samples tt I got from other brides thru this thread =)

Pls provide email address =)

Hi andrea
my email is [email protected]

Well thanks for your compliment.. her husband is away at the moment and she has to handle all things by herself while busy with her sales job. So trying my best to help her before she is burned out.

Hi gals..

Im not sure if this question has been raised before.. but are we allowed to have wedding masses on sunday afternoons? Coz the date which I am looking at falls ona sunday..but people have been telling me that we are "not allowed" to have wedding masses on sundays..

So if there are any brides or BTB holding their wedding on sunday... pls let me know ok?

Thanks in advance!

hi lorraine and oscar, u guys got mail =)

hi cheryl, if i remember correctly u can only have a wedding service on Sunday...but best to check with your church/priest =)

hi cheryl, my church wedding is next yr only...haha and it's on a sat =) I just heard from somewhere else that's all (can't remember where though)

tay hui ling: Up to you as well.. even the ring bearer can be your witness or something.
All these are not hard written rules.

cheryl: i think it depends on each church. Church of Risen Christ not allowed. best to check with the parish priest.

Hey SFX Brides,
i wanted to change my canteen venue to the hall venue for my reception after the mass but the secretary told us that since its a new priest coming in on 1st aug, we must check with him if it is ok to use the hall as the reception area and she told us to check back after he settles down..
did anyone change priest after the news that father ho is transferring?

hi fifteenmay, I checked with the secretary and Fr Ho will still celebrate all the weddings he promised to prior to his transfer so you don't have to worry about that =)

Hi Andrea, is there a CD player in church where we can play the bridal march, etc on CD?? I've checked with my fren and she said her music pc wouldn't sound right on the electric keyboard so best for me to play from CD instead. How abt mikes? Do you know what they provide?

Also, this may sound like a silly qn.. but do I need to appt someone to 'signal' to someone that the bridal party is ready to march in, and he will play the CD or do you know if Philip Lye/or his wife can press play on the CD player? I'm trying to figure out how many helpers I require. And er.. how does the priest know when to come out?? Or they'll just be in their waiting room till they hear the bridal march then they get ready for the Opening Hymn?

I know I sound so silly.. but I'm trying to figure out how all of it flows...

hi suwaiwai =)

The last I checked we need to bring our own CD player but that was like a few yrs ago =P haha...

Mikes should be there...

What I did for my friend's wedding was tt because I was the one "announcing" what to do and stuff, once I asked the guests to rise to welcome the bridal party, Phillip starting to play already. in your case, you can get your helper to ask Phillip's wife to press the CD player =)

The priest will be wandering around in the chapel already so everyone will be in place waiting for your grand entrance =)

it's not silly lah u =)
If I didn't do my friend's wedding, i also won't know...hahaha

hi girls, for the MPC, i notice that there are two columns in the application form to be filled in the bottom

- church of marriage
- recommending priest.

i'm most prob getting married in my parish, but getting another priest. so in my case, will the recommending priest be the one that will marry us or the parish priest of the church i'm going to marry in?
