Bookstyle wedding photos printing

Has anyone printed a photobook for wedding? Oh well, I had my wedding in Feb 07, my pc crashed and the photobook (using smartbookto make the photobook) was gone too.

I am really trying to get this done before my 2nd anniversary hits. I thought it would be great to print my own weddding book (done with a publishing style) with scribbles of words in it to tell the story.

to add, I have been exploring blurb (overseas), or the local version, thedigibook. Reviews for blurb has been superb though.

Hi, you can try FotoHub, they do have photo story or photo journal. I've just printed mine. They did a good job.

I just sent my book for print with Blurb, they are top of the game in publishing, Shipping takes approximately 2 weeks.

It's so affordable, I am printing 50 pages, image wrap style, at less than USD60.

Will only know the quality when the book arrives though.

For a sneak view of my book, you may look at http://simpleartsplanet.com/mikelisfairytale/, i posted the some pages of the book in my wedding blog.

Can't wait to see... !!

My book is shipped!! I should receive the book by next week, and if everything is well, I am going to print my travel book too!

This sounds really cool. I'd love to do that for my own wedding too. Will check out blurb soon! Thanks for the recommendation.

Hey s'rene and ene..

You are welcomed..I am so excited about the book!!! (^__^)

If all goes well, I may just reprint the book for my MIL, and some relatives who reside abroad. Not to all of them, but perhaps the grandparents etc.

I have already mocked up the travel book for this year, just wanting to make sure the book turns out well, then I will send for print..

I am consolidating all the trips made this year, it turns out that the Australia trip itself is already taking up 100 pages!!!! Then again, I am likely to print softcover book for travel, so it's still pretty affordable.

It's nice to have a travel book printed. I always write down the activities during the travel, so I want to included all that in the book (that explains why it's taking up so many pages..LOL) I used to do scrapbooking, but it just turned out way too thick.

Once I received the book, I will take pics of it and post in my blog, and update it here eh...

yay!! my wedding book has arrived. Received it yesterday, faster than I expected.

I posted up some photos which I took of my wedding book here:
http://simpleartsplanet.com/mikelisfairytale/2008/09/19/wedding-book-printed-with-blurb-arrived/

Turns out fantastic! I am going to reprint one more for my MIL. There is a promo going on with Blurb, so I can save some shipping cost, think USD10 off shipping, or USD15 discount for order exceeding certain amount. Can't remember now. I just need to check through my travel book for errors and good to print.

If you are printing, always check here:
http://www.retailmenot.com/view/blurb.com

to see if there is any new promotion going on, and use the discount code when checking out.

Hey xiaojan, I don't know if you are going to like this idea. What I am doing for my travel book though, is to scan the brochures that I picked up along the travel. I included them in too.

Just a gist of it, you may select smaller book 7x7", http://www.blurb.com/create/book/pricing, and perhaps include some picks from your dating period.

My initial plan was to have some pictures included in the wedding book, like a storybook of us. Then, I thought it may be too thick, so I let it slide.

I have been telling people to take photos of the wedding preps too, like when you go to the bridal studio; or choosing which shoes to buy; which accessories etc, so that can be thrown into the book too. Oh well, my wedding planning was under 3 mths, and I was preparing for a retail spot, so I only managed to take pics of dress fitting. :P

hey Kyle wee, yes, the prices are in USD. then again, after conversion, it's still relatively affordable.

I've download the software for Digibook. But don't really like it cos they only hv plain backgrounds. I was actually using Photobook Singapore, they hv very nice backgrounds for weddings. But somehow the software hangs on me when I'm doing the 39th page. That's why now hunting around for alternatives while waiting for their online support.

you should try downloading blurb software to see if you like their style. All that I know, blurb is made up of people from the top of the game in publishing. They have now expanded their management team with many more very established and well known figures in the industry.

Hi lissy, your wedding photo book does look great!

Can share how much it cost for printing the book, including shipping charges? Thanks.

Hi Lynn..

The book @ $37.95
Shipping: $18.96
Total: $56.91

Prices in USD, approximately S$81.90. If you print hard cover, with dust cover, the price will be lower, of cos soft cover is cheapest. but with wedding book, think imagewrap is the most ideal.

I didn't print the largest book though, I prefer smaller one for easy storage. All photos printed well and clear though.

thanks for sharing, lissy! your book is awesome! very sweet idea! i gonna keep all the pages bookmarked and hopefully my pics turn out well enough for my own publication too! wow.. ^.^

Hey csl, better still they now have premium paper!! Premium paper is thicker than the usual papers they have. The price is pretty good still, and just a few dollars more, and I've checked, the shipping fee is pretty much the same.

I am going to print with the premium paper soon (probably after Xmas, I remember they always have post holiday promotion) and I am going to keep that book! The first copy will be passed on to my mum-in-law (^_^")

Another bride from USA tried the service after she saw my book in my flickr album, she is very pleased with the result too, she is going to print more of her wedding books for her parents.

yah.. this is a v sweet gift for parents n any1 we loved.. it's jus cool! really love this idea so much! ^,^

i hope i wud rem this (i'm very forgetful n hv short-term memory prob.. sometimes i shampooed twice or more w/o knowing! haha) when my future wedding anniversary to come.. so i can hv a special anni gift for my hubby.. or even for my child in future.. so cool rite.. hehehee..

Yah!!!! I am printing travel book too!!! I did scrapbooking the last time for the honeymoon pics, so I don't want to print it again. Anyhow, there wasn't much pics taken during honeymoon. heee.. The scrapbooking was nice, but it always ended up very thick due to all the pasting.

What the other bride did was she did a one-page summary of the honeymoon (she test printed with the honeymoon pics first) and placed it right a the back of the book. It's soooo sweet.

I agree, in the past, we can't really afford to print extra wedding book for our parents, because printing with the studio is just way too expensive. I am sure the parents would love to have a complete book to keep, when visitors come, they can show off a bit. There are also many details that they may missed out on the actual day, so it's nice that they get to keep the entire book.

If you are very close with some cousins etc, and like to print more, there is structured discount too. My husband's boss is asking me to help compile their yearly activities and print into books for the staff. She is so very pleased with our wedding book.

Hi lissy

how long did the book took to reach you from the date they shipped out? ours was shipped on 24 Oct and yet to reach us ... our shipping method was economy, non trackable. worried that it got lost somewhere..
sad.gif

Shipping from USA using Priority mail can take up to 10 working days, add in a couple more days for printing. If they are using First Class (USPS) it may take up to 15 working days. I think they may be using other mail carrier, but usually around the same transit time.

I can't remember which carrier they used, I was expecting quite many packages from various vendors that time, so I really lost track. I believe it's through SingPost though.

You may be expecting your book this week though. Xmas rush is in, my packages to USA takes slightly longer now, so wait up a little, if you don't receive it by end of the week, you may try contact blurb to see what they can do for you.

okay... hope it will reach us cos my bf mentioned some one knocking on the door, he didnt open cos he tot its some sales person. haha.

thanks! cant wait to hold the book in my hands! we opt for imagewrap too.

great choice! Did you print with the premium paper? I wanted to print with that for the reprint, but I want to take advantage of combined shipping for the travel book too, and the scanner is still in the car (need to be serviced). I am scanning in brochures to be included in the travel book.

Now that it's approaching Xmas soon, I am swamped with orders, so I guess, that has to wait till after Christmas. :P

Oh.. if it's the postman, they will leave a note in your mailbox or slip under the door, did you see any? My postman actually called me when I was out..hahahaha.. that is provided that you left your contact though.

nope, we took normal paper. if the end product is gd, maybe we will do another book with actual days photos for our jie mei n brothers as a gift.
happy.gif

That's cute!!!!!

They used to offer priority mail, which I ship with the last time, now they only offer economy and express, the price is a huge difference. For Express, usually it's factored with the indemnity cap amount; economy is cost effective, but higher risk.

There is no insurance offered though.

the book came today, 16th business day. but the quality is not as gd as what we expected. the corner of the book came dented, inside pages were creased and the imagewrapping is not nicely done as well.. very disappointing... we wrote to blurb, see what response they give...

yikes, sorry to hear that, rennae.

Apparently, there are mixed groups of people who are either very pleased, or very disappointed with the quality. Some debated that it was personal expectation towards POD (Print on demand).

IMO, creasing is not acceptable.

I have just ordered the 2nd book with premium paper :P Will have to wait for it to arrive to see if the quality turns out as excellent as my first book. Fingers cross..

Hi Lissy,
i was inspired by your wedding book, its lovely!
so i started one myself!wedding's on 13 dec...so i tink it might be a huge risk to take the economy option.however, the express is very expensive
sad.gif
did you use express? do you know if they still offer priority?

hiya.. sunnie09, no, they don't offer priority anymore. I ordered with regular (economy) though. I believe that they may have been running into buyers who press for delivery status. Priority is usually not updated that frequently, sometimes, you only see the updated status when it's delivered.

Have you already checked out the order? Do check on the retailmenot web http://www.retailmenot.com/view/blurb.com for discount coupon, I checked out with the coupon that waived off $29.95, so I am only paying $24.88. :P

So do check for valid codes eh.

lissy,

oh
happy.gif
cool!!!Thanks!! I hope that the discount coupon for $29.95 still works! I'm going to submit my order tonight.

btw, how long in actual did you have to wait for your book to arrive (from the date of order)?

lovely!do show us your book when it arrives
happy.gif

I'm considering if I should use economy...I'm submitting tonight and wedding is on 13 dec. do you think it'll reach on time?

Oh. don't count on that, because rennae mentioned that she received hers in 16 business days, that would be over 3 weeks. Now that the Xmas shipping madness has kicked in, I really don't think you could make it in time.

That's a lot of stress to keep track of a package you know. When I was planning my own wedding, I settled almost everything within 3 weeks (oh well, I only had slightly over 2 mths before my wedding, so to speak), and the rest of the time, I was just watching other people getting stressed up. I cut myself too much slack I think. Then again, the last few weeks are always crucial, because all the strange last minute things just pop up, the mums will always have something to add in. Leave at least 2 weeks for last min stuffs. It's really not worth sweating the book's arrival eh.

My book is practically the same, just changed a few pages, and different paper. heee.. I hope you have uploaded the book to the site though, I had a tough time uploading it yesterday, my internet connection was a drag yesterday.

wow.ok..then i better opt for the express service and pray that the coupon still works tonight! nope, i havent uploaded it yet..honestly I dont know what will happen after I press the "order book" button..haha..so i assume it will upload on the site ?

right now, the project file is in my home com (now im in office:P)...will rush back to complete it by tonight, just a few pages more!

okok! haha shall listen to your advice. yes the mums have alot to say!

hehehe..so exciting!

YAH!!!! I was a little concerned with the 'order book' they should really name it as 'upload', cos the order seems like a confirmation.

After you have uploaded the book, you will be brought to the site, and the book will be up there for 15 days until you order the first book, then the book will be in their server for a year. (I think it's a year...)

You can set it to private if you don't want people to view your book, I left it as public, after all, I have it up in my blog, nothing so private already.

By the way, have you checked the local book printer? I mean, if it adds up to lower cost or equivalent (in terms of shipping and all) you may want to try the local printer instead, so that you have more time to play.

I just checked through my book last night, and I think I am just the lucky batch, all pages are good, but do expect that the print is like those you see in recipe books, which I am fine, because I wasn't expecting photograph paper print.

I read through the blurb group in flickr, some complained about the print, some sang praises. I have a feeling that I have low expectation (although I am really very anal with print quality given that I do illustration and print work), and I am really thrilled with the fact that I printed my own book.

Do consider the odds before you print eh. For me, the price is good for me, especially with the discount. heee. If the 29.95 discount expires, there is another new coupon up today, 20% off total (not including shipping), some discount better than no discount eh.

OMG! My reply is turning into a book! I got to run to make orders now, will check back during breaks eh.

wow.your reply's fast!ohhh okok,i finally get it!

nope, i din check with a local book printer, cos i've already done up 95% using blurb, its so easy!if ive known that the shipping was gona cost a bomb, i wld have used a local book printer.

haha...i tink im not so fussy either! i really love how your book looks! recipe books are cool with me
happy.gif
yes! i noe what you mean, like u designed your own book..

ok, cant wait to try tonight!

I've tried the digibook several times and it has been great! I've got a friend and also my own colleague using www.the DigiBook.com. I've just uploaded my book yesterday. It says 10 working days.... Will see

just an update... after my hubby-to-be complain, they resend another book and reached us within 2wks.
creases were gone but scratches on cover (imagewrap) still there. paper quality as before, too thin for fussy pple like us.
so we tried photobook, 50pages on 200gsm paper with clam shell: SGD$300 plus 100% thumbs up customer service with online live support chat.
after we submitted the first time, they called to inform the centre page will be cut off. so we re-do and submit again. we later spotted a typo error so ask them to amend for us and they did!
the binding is more like stitch bind together with the cover, unlike blurb where they stitch the pages and glue it to the front n back cover.

our blurb is sent from Netherlands, and photobook from Selangor,Msia. for blurb maybe it depends where the book is printed i guess...

rennae: great to know photobook is good, I do think the binding looks better too. Not tried it yet though.

I reckon for $300, it'd better be good! I wouldn't think you had fussed over the quality, creasing of papers is not acceptable to me too!

It's really wonderful that you share this with us, thanks a bunch, at least now we have more options for different needs. I would still print the travel book with blurb though, it's good price to print with.

My book just arrived. I love the premium paper, although it's not that thick, I am very pleased with the prints and quality. I am the type that can tell the difference from 70gsm and 80gsm paper, so I can really tell this paper is thicker, and it's more matt than the regular paper.

My book is coming from Netherlands too. No finger prints anywhere this time around, I checked all the b/w prints, there are no dots found, no crease on papers too.

I reckon it's dumb luck, or they probably have decided to wiser up and take check on the quality.

I noticed a tiny logo at the back of my book, but that doesn't bother me though.

Conclusion: I am very happy with the book, and the best thing is I only paid USD24.95 for the book. (^_^)
