Bookclub - what are you reading?

serene... watch DVC liao must let us know how it is... i also wan to watch, but haven't find the time yet...

goooogal... for thrillers/suspense, so far i've only read jeffrey deaver n james patterson's books, n "The Chinaman" by Stephen sth (cannot remember the last name).

i'm also worried it'll b disappointing... like wat pple always say abt books being made into movies... most of the time not as good as the books...

i'm sure they will make his other books into movies in future kekeke

nvm lah..even if ppl say not nice i will still watch it hehehe since been waiting 4 so long n coz its tom hanks hehe

Serene,

I'm sure that even if the critics don't like it, the general public will still flock to watch it becoz this thing is just so huge. Anyway, the viewing public don't really follow wat critics say :P But I won't be watching it. I'm not a fan of Dan Brown's works, and it just isn't something that I'd wanna pay $20 to watch. Might rent it later, or maybe it'd appear on HBO :P

I'm more keen on the year end movies. Anyone here reads James Ellroy's books (the guy who wrote LA Confidential)? They're turning his book 'The Black Dahlia' into a movie starring Josh Harnett and Scarlett Johansson. Think Brian de Palma is directing. Looking fwd to that, esp if it's any where as good as the LA Confidential movie adaptation. Also looking fwd to David Fincher's 'Zodiac'. His 'Se7en' is still one of my all time favourite crime movies.

alhana haha $20? errr i bot tmr at $8 kekeke

ya lor majority of ppl will still watch lah...juz like mi..read the book purely coz i'm curious kekeekkee

think most of the pple juz read the book becoz everyone was making such a big fuss abt it. i've actually seen more pple reading DVC books ard now compared to last time...

but comparing DVC n Angels and Demons, i'll prefer the latter...

Serene

Must buy 2 tix mah..me and hubby...and we always watch movies on weekends...so almost $20. Plus snacks...wah...$30 per movie. Scary. That's why we seldom go to the movies now. In fact, MI3 was the first movie we've watched in the cinema this year! Now we just rent DVD...much cheaper.

hehe i oso preferred Angels n Demons..i find those ambigrams damn interesting..pei fu those ppl who can actually design those characters

agree wif alhana... movie tix so expensive nowadays... imagine the money spent can go eat a good meal leh... keke...but sometimes, some shows r better watched on the big screen...

oh, ya, serene... they r ambigrams, was thinking wat those r called... heh. this reminded me, my mother's friend's signature very stylo one... u see horizontal is english name, but u turn 90 degrees vertical, it's her chinese name...

Levynn

Yeah lor...then if watch movie, prob will eat out..so total spent maybe ard $60-$70 with each movie outing. Can't imagine including kid(s) next time....headache. Now we will only watch certain movies on big screen, like those w alot of effects (like X3) or those rated R21 (boh pian..won't come out on DVD :P). If nothing special abt the movie, then will wait for DVD.

Fwah, your mom's friend's signature so stylo!

Morning gals!
happy.gif
Hah...I won't be spending money on movie tix so often anymore. Maybe only for certain shows. I think I'll rent the VCD for DVC esp after reading the reviews. Was disappointed that Tom Hanks is the lead cos I've always pictured Harrison Ford in that role! Kekeke...

Ya agree with Alhana that movie watching is v ex nowadays esp if you throw in the meals. Usually we'll pick a place where there's a food court so we can eat there before watching the show, so as to save some money. And we dun buy snacks cos it's unhealthy and costly. Jiak ba ba 1st before watching the movie! ;)

BTW, my dad's signature is also quite stylo.. it's his and my mum's name together...but you can't see it clearly lah.

Hi Goooogal

Hehe...we hv thought of eating before watching the movie first, but very scared get stomachache! Hehehe. My hubby's digestive tract is so efficient...eat already then hafta go toilet :P

Agreed. I love Tom Hanks, but he looks so awful with his long hair! Always pictured someone more rugged looking as Langdon, although I don't know why, since he's more of an academic :P Then again, Indiana Jones was a professor too, but what a YUMMY prof!

Your dad's so romantic! Incl your mom's name in his sig! wow.

Hahaha... alhana, my hubby too!!! Everytime have to go to the loo before movie, even if he went just half an hour before. I always tease him that he has a really tiny bladder and short intestine!

Ya, Tom Hanks will forever be the slight dopey, nice guy to me... not a swashbuckling, action-packed kinda leading man. A bit stereotypical unfortunately. But I guess Harrison Ford is a little too old to be Langdon.

Haha..this is the 1st time I ever heard my dad being called a romantic...he's homey and domesticated but not romantic to me leh...

hello gals!

Before i forget, Levynn here is the author i m reading abt now. Luanne Rice's Secret Hour.. not too bad.. not mind blowing either!

Serene. wah now still got $8 tixs for 2?? where ah?? heehee..

Alhana mummy, hey i also the same. i haven't watch any movie since Harry potter last yr! think its a waste of $$ plus i dun like to watch tv.. me also haven't got my home theatre sys so cannot rent DVD... :P lazy right? but i will still go and catch DVC on sat nite if not too tired. think next wkend will catch X men 3 too.. then nothing else to look forward liao... I dun think Tom Hanks suits the role of Langdon either... i tot will be somebody like as distinguish as Sean Connery... heehee.. Peirce Brosnan? but agree that Harrison Ford would be a yummy choice... better than Russell Crowe who was the hot fav!

Gooogal, nopes i haven't read the Incarnate series.. trying to finish the series Alhana recommended me first.. still left the latest book to read...

Hi Stefanie, I like Paula Coelho too... read The Alchemist and Veronika Decides to Die...very poignant and touching tales.

bear bear hahaha no lah! $8 each lahhhh but sumtimes i got free tix from vendors or discount 4 safra members 4 certain movies

my colleague juz told mi he's gonna lend mi Breaking DVC..somemore invite me 2 join in a discussion session wif his frens..they r 'modern' christians kekeke i told him i beta dun join in coz i may get very ji dong if ppl say stupid things :P

Hello ladies! Wah everybody's reading something now ah. I've just finished reading Snow Flower by Lisa See. I reckon it could be made into a great movie! Depicts the life of olden China women.. about foot binding etc. But it's like the female/chinese version of Brokeback Mountain meets Joy Luck Club... :P

Hi Stefanie & Goooogal, I've read all those books by Paul Coelho too. Also read the latest, Eleven Minutes -- about how this girl decides to be a prostitute. The Devil & Miss Prym was quite an engaging read too. Oh actually, when I started this thread, I was reading Veronika Decides to Die... about a year back.

Alhana what have you been watching on tv? I've not gone to the movies for ages... weekends spent at home watching seasons of The Sopranos and Las Veg_s (not allowed to spell that out in this forum) :P

Am going to start on a new book later. "Bringing Down The House" by Ben Mezrich. About how six students from MIT took Veg_s for millions.

Not rushing to watch Da Vinci Code either. Haha I gotta wait long long for Ocean's Thirteen!

hahaha well its beta 2 keep an open mind on such topics lor...like in tis DVC movie case..if u take it as a fiction u will enjoy the movie juz like the book heheheh

Hrmm i m like ALhana mummy, i dun really like Dan Brown's books. think they are quite poorly written.. in the sense that every damn chapter ends in a cliffhanger!! and the ridculous ways he thought up to carry on the story can be quite tiring aft awhile.. granted, it is entertaining, but its like those brainless action movie u get wat i mean? Angels and Demons as a movie? well... no comments.. i go and watch DVC first..

Serene, u convent gal ah? i also leh.. heehee.. but i dun think one movie can make me change my beliefs.. if that's the case, i m not a true Christian anyway right? heehee...
