Mr. Lai told me the same thing, he say if i want it now he can have it installed within 30 mins but i still had like 8 pails of leftover paints in the bomb shelter, an extra wooden door, some tiles and cleaning stuffs ...

Val
That night was unusual.
She suggested the jog, after she prepared trotters for dinner. Worried about any extra pound gained.

Did u get an invoice from him? Mr lai look like an honest man so we let him do it for us. He did not pressure us and told us that he will give us an invoice first and if after 3 months should we decide, we can still get it at the same price.

HuiLing,

He gave me the invoice for $99 too.

Valerie,

Hey Kevin,

Where did you buy your workstation table in your 3rd bedroom? I think it was a tempered glass top right? How much was it? I saw one quite similar i think from vhive selling about $400.

ryan
that L-shape study table belongs to gallant series from ikea. u can choose the configuration. i picked a 1.6m x 2.2m L-shape. cost under 400 bucks. nope, it doesnt have a tempered glass top, my study wall was tempered glass.

seen the vhive glass top table before but find it too small. want a long, big L-shape so my wife n i can wk at the table concurrently.

Hi Goatie,

Well for us, we do not have a confirmed date yet, but most likely end of next month, cause we still have some items not purchased yet.

Cheers.

I was told by my ID that alumnium grilles is not a deterrant to burglars as is very easy to cut and enter the premises. Alum grilles are more to prevent kids from climbing over n falling down.

To really deter burglars, U will need wrought iron grilles to be installed as it takes very long to saw them off.

Currently we have no intention to install either grilles as no kids and want to enjoy the semi full ht windows. But would be staying in low floors, & afraid of burglars climbing over, anyone installed security system in their house?

Heard of anjels? only 1 time cost set up & the automated system will call you in case of intrusion( up to 10 nos i think). ADT & Cisco is an ongoing cost which could be ex in the long run. Saw DIY stores selling some motion and contact detectors, but wonder abt their efficiencies.

time flies...its been close to 10 months since all of us made the payment of $10 for the application fee...look where we are now

anyway we finally started our reno after dily daly for like 3-4months..

today is the 7th day and they will be doing the base for the kitchen cabinets
happy.gif

we should start planning for another round of visits for those newly renovated homes and those who have stayed in their homes for a couple of months ^^

Hi,

Any good ID for recommendation? Wondering does IDs charge for drawing and designing before we decide on them? Am intending to see their design first before placing the deposit.

anyone can share their design for a corridor unit? was wondering hw it can be designed to make the living and dining area look more spacious... greatly appreciate if anyone could help!

sounds gd ryan
happy.gif
..still crossing my fingers that our reno turns out well..

sharemoments - it varies..some companies charge some dont. so far the few that i have seen dont. my personal view is that if they charge i strike them off. but if u already feel that what they propose is what u like then maybe u can treat the payment as a form of mini deposit.

for me i didnt have any 3d computer drawings..just hand drawn 3d drawings of the capertenry work which is ok for me.

morning all!
'
ryan today citigas coming to lay the pipes for kitchen.

most of the stuff is up less carpentry. aircon and painting should be done by next week.

we didnt do much just, false ceiling, kitchen cabinet, display / shoe / HHS feature, partition in mbr for wardrobe and the wardrobe itself then the rest quite common like grilles, bi-fold doors etc.

handover should be mid june..but we in no hurry yet since we not going to stay there. but will be renting 2 rooms out. i will be going back there occasionally only.

i am deciding if i should change the whole house switchs and powerpoints...cause i dont like them ^^. costs abt 200

shawn

i changed the kitchen ones, but left the other parts unchanged. I supposed it will be cheaper to buy your own and change yourself, cos the electrician charged me $15 for each change ... $60 just for 4 switches in the kitchen.

mine is charging me $120 for whole house. actually it doesnt look to hard to change..but my gf dont let me...

anyway luckily i managed to get a friend to help me...cost = lunch treat ^^

meanwhile i am so tempted to buy 1 switch from clipsal that costs $40..its a 4-gang silver colored, with led lights that *turn on* when the switch is not *on*. comparatively its abt $10 for a normal silver 4 gang.

ahh decisions decisions..

btw any hate their toilets and want to change them? i found out that we will need to engage a PE who will then certify that such works (hacking of the toilet wall tiles) can be carried out.
shawn

i thought you cannot hack down the toilet wall tiles until 5 years later by HDB rules? don't waste your money on PE, maybe they know cannot one but just out to earn your $ only.

You can only overlay it which i decide against because it cost big $$ and makes the toilet smaller.

hi ryan can from the hdb website.

Q: Can I remove the floor and wall tiles in my bathrooms/toilets of my new HDB flat?
[ Home Owners > Getting Approval For Your Renovation ]

A: Yes, provided the floor and wall tiles of your bathrooms/toilets were fitted more than 3 years ago.

HDB imposes a 3-year restriction on the removal of floor and wall tiles from bathrooms/toilets. The 3-year restriction starts from the date of completion of the block.

reason for the change

Q: Why did HDB change the starting date for the 3-year restriction on the removal of floor and wall tiles from bathrooms/toilets?
[ Home Owners > Getting Approval For Your Renovation ]

A: The bathrooms/toilets built by HDB are waterproofed to prevent water from seeping through the floor slab and into the ceiling of the unit below yours.

When the floor and wall tiles are removed, the waterproofing might be damaged. The materials used to build the bathrooms/toilets are also wasted. To prevent this, HDB imposes a 3-year restriction on the removal of floor and wall tiles from bathrooms/toilets.

When the restriction was first imposed, the starting date of the restriction period was the date the owner collects the keys from HDB. This prevented new owners of HDB flats that were older than 3 years from renovating their bathrooms/toilets.

On 1 April 2005, HDB revised the start date to the completion date of the block. This ensures that the waterproofing stays intact for 3 years and gives new owners of old flats the flexibility to renovate the toilets.

Shawn: I'm planning the same thing with my GF too.. Rent out the place for around 1.5yrs first.

How much did you do your kitchen cabinets for? Still deciding between Ikea kitchen cabinets or getting proper cabinets. Just scared that the tenants will thrash the place, hence wanted Ikea. But it seems like Ikea isn't that cheap as well...

Ryan:
Think the flats were completed in 2001 if I remember correctly...
happy.gif

apprye our 15ft cabinet top and bottom, with blum hinges for all and granite top cost us abt 5k. very expenisve in my opnion
sad.gif

whyme. $120 is only labor costs. i will need to spend abt 200 for whole house swtich, this includes those telephone, power point, air con etc..so total maybe abt 350. anyway i am getting mt friend to help me install so i save $120

Thanks Shawn....
happy.gif
Seems like it's on the pricey side... Think I'd just for for Ikea then... Will redo the kitchen if need be in the future when the wallet's slightly fatter... :D

SY Chen is right, no matter if you own tv or not you will need to pay TV license.

So free to air channel is not exactly true, someone should start to change the term.

Valerie,

Got a small hiccups with Jimmy Textiles. They were supposed to install the curtains and roller blind yesterday but they turn up with only the curtains and the install guy says they did not manage to get the blind done in time. I called up Lucas and he could not tell me for sure but say he will 'try' to arrange installation on monday. So right now, i'm supposed to wait and see....

Then i was waiting for Samsung person to come up and install the wall brackets, 2 hrs passed the arranged time, i went down to courts and apparently, the salesperson FORGOT to arrange. It is quite unforgiving because i did call up him later after the purchase if he had arranged and he say yes.

Nothing goes smooth on Sat.
