Any good SEAMSTRESS to recommend ?

hi female, looks like you are gonna have to send a second batch... can share share?? since everyone says you look so nice in it? all the compliments are making us curious!! my email: [email protected]. thanks lots!

wow! ur gown looks really v sexy and i'm sure u'll look like a greek goddess on the day of ur wedding. Jus curious, is ur FH gonna wear something special to complement ur gown? Hmmm......wldn't that be interesting....

hi female, thanks for sharing! woah, your gown reminds me of marilyn's monoe's famous white dress! :D you look very good in it! may i know how much you paid for it?

hehheh, im actually feeling a little embarassed about the attention my little dress is getting..im still looking for somebody to say "romantic" leh
happy.gif
- sexy sounds quite dangerous for weddings with a lot of old people (ie. relatives)! haha...

ab: yah, i like that knot too. the knot will be sewn down to the dress in the final fitting.

blossoms: u know what? my FH doesnt know what im wearing! he's on overseas attachm, so im organizing everything to kinda surprise him. if hes around, confirm wont let me wear so low
happy.gif
. i did joke & tell him he shld do the cuba-look: white suit, & the white hat..very gay..

married woman: marilyn monroe har? hahaha! dont leh, i shy!
i will send the price separately...

im going for my EG & CS fitting this friday. If there is interest, i'll figure a way to upload to a site, yah?

peiling, twist: sending soon.

well sorry female, have been wanting to say it but ....well 2b honest...me dont fancy your dress design...actually abit old fashion and 'cheap' looking....because of the ruffled straps and low cut.....me think will look so much more elegant if you have normal straps. LUCKILY, you have slim body to carry it. But do you have the pretty face to carry it ?

Sorry I am not trying to insult you or anything...I had a fren who wore something like that. Against our advice she insisted on low cut front and back....but because she looked so ordinary in terms of facial features, on that wedding day she just came across as 'trying to flaunt breasts and back as face not pretty' ....and really, we all felt so sad for her.....the general feedback was she looked 'cheap'.....

so female, I would seriously ask that you seek your friends' and esp. FH advice. You already knew he wont want you to wear so low, then why do so? Imagine on that day he will feel uncomfy about all the other men looking at you know where....

Well dear female, pls consult your husband, alright?

hi female,
could I have your seamstress kim contact and the price of making one?
me currently sourcing to do a CS.
Would like to see your dress pic...so many gd comments!!
Pls email to [email protected]
Thanks in advance!!

ahh, a different opinion, honest. thanks for your concerns. im not worried abt my FH actually - wat i meant is, if he shld hv to decide between a low-cut & shell-top, he'll choose shell-top. like most men would. when it comes to my dressing, i never hv to consult FH - he'll joke abt "confiscating" my sexy tops, but he's never stopped me, or been angry. he trusts my taste.

as for whether i look good in it, hv to trust the opinions of my friends already. i was initially reserved abt the design (only coz of the relatives), but my friends kept encouraging me - they all love the dress. they;re all gonna wear low-cuts that day to "support" me, so there;s tons of other cleavages to stare at....hahhhha!

your friend doesnt usually wear low-cuts isst, thats why even others discourage her?

at the end of the day, one shld know what one looks good in. its your big day - wear whatever you want. tongues will wag no matter what u wear. thats what relatives are for
happy.gif

Hi female,
I think honest has a point as in, with such a unique and attention-grabbing dress, need to make sure everything else presentable or else they will pounce on whatever's lacking. Human nature- how many times we see a lady with enviable figure and nice dress only to tear her face to shreds, yikes.

But it's your wedding- and your body looks good in it (won't have any comments of fat arms, or fat back, or flat chest, lucky you!), I'm sure as long as your face is "regular", with makeup, you'd look great :D Agree abt how you carry yourself- if you are comfortable in it, can carry yourself well, if others eg. relatives or friends, who insist on criticising you on your Big Day, well, there's no pleasing everyone.

Cool you are making it a surprise for your HB- my gf did that too. I'm not so confident so I keep dragging my HB for gown fittings for reassurance, sigh.

Hmm, I thought it was grecian in style, but married's right the front does resemble Marilyn's white halter somewhat. I think you can do a glam updo- something with curls perhaps, tying in the more olden-period? Happy experimenting
happy.gif
I don't think it looks cheap, it's only 1st Fitting, when the pins are removed, your makeup and hair done with appropriate accessories- you'd get a classy whole.

Hi anyone can recommend another seamstress for WG?? Called Kim but she cannot fit me into her schedule as my wedding is in a mth's time

postpet2, u've got mail...

sorry, busy this weekend. i've just sent the pixs. my EG & CS pixs fr last fri's fitting didnt turn out clear, so no point posting. i'd hv to stress again that kim is v v busy this period, best if u're not in a hurry. she's actually asked me to halt the pix-giving for now, coz shes been getting lots of calls, so i wont be sending out anymore. i'd prob. post a link to my wedding photos (less than a month's time...ahhhh!)so that those interested can see all 3 dresses by kim.

Honest, MT: ladies, dont worry, i know what im doing! thxs thxs for the advice. im going for the natural look, with causal hair & flowers. the jewellery is being custom-made.

jenifur: theres an earlier posting in this thread abt a seamtress in bukit timah. my fren made a dress there before & say its fine. im not sure abt WG tho'. i thot my whirlwind 3 months preparation work for EVERYTHING is cool, you even cooler -less time!
happy.gif
dont worry, sure can one.

Hi Female: I dun have a choice. Due 2 e demise of my grandfather so I mus get married within 100 days, if not then I gotta wait for 3 years. Will go check out e shop in Bukit Timah.

Btw what's e marker rate to tailored a WG??

Hi female...

so kim's real busy with all the recommendation here huh...

okok...will not give her the photos yet...

did she say how much back log for orders she got? cos i've got another gf that wants her to help for ROM dress...dunno she can take or not...

hi jenifur,

im so sorry abt ur circumstances. i checked w my fren yesterday & it is Vxxx at Bukit Timah Plaza #01-07 Tel 64664041. have u taken a look at the off-the-rack ones in bridal shops? i believe some shops are having sales right now. i'd see if there's any other seamtress & post back here.

postpet2, shes doing 8 dresses for another lady right now, & 3 for me...maybe once she clears us, it'll be better. i tink she say she'll be busy till nov - call her anyway? her off-peak period is feb onwards till may-jun. u can still give her ur photo anyway..she knows who u are now, hehheh. i only told her july bride & she knows!

Hi postpet or female,

Can i check with u? How long in advance muz i go n do the gowns if i want it to be tailored by Kim? My wedding is in Dec 04.

And then, can I hav a look at the gowns that u gals made?? So much WOWO WOW Wee!!! Made me so tempted, i hvnt sign up any wedding package at the moment, so looking ard for cheaper options. How abt EG, does she do fully beaded gowns?? I love beaded gowns with french lace but i know it will be expensive. Someone did quote me $800 (workmanship + fabric n beading. Is it Exp??

hi tweetie,

i went to kim 3 months before wedding, so u've got plenty of time, dear
happy.gif
if i hv a choice again, i'd give her 4 months coz year-end is busy period for her. my wedding is next weekend, my final fitting/collection (3 dresses) is this friday. good thing im not a gan jiong bride! but best is still to check with her. different designs take differnt times to make. beaded will naturally take longer.

Ive seen beaded pattern dresses that she does, but im not sure if she does fully-beaded. you can buy fabrics that are already fully-beaded - may be cheaper this way coz if let seamtress hand-bead, workmanship cost will be higher. beading quite siong one leh, sure do until cross-eyed
happy.gif

my EG is also french lace (knee-length tube) with silver threads running thru the fabric, so no need extra beading coz lace quite pattern already. material itself is $180 already! Everything in is abt $350. your quotation is for fully beaded at what length?

if u're still interested later, i can post the finished dresses after my wedding next week. the pixs i have now were taken at the 1st fitting, so not finished, no beading yet.

i save the most with my dresses coz no package, and best of all, can do whatever i please!

Hi female,

Thanks for the elaborate explanation
happy.gif
Then I think i hv a lot of time to play ard with then. At $350/- for partial beaded, that is quite cheap leh! Hmmmm....maybe i shall hunt ard n look for fabric now instead..... see if i can get some good bargain out of it or not.

Your wedding next week!!! Congrats!! Kan Cheong or not.......Whereabouts??? I was went to see see some of the ballrooms jus now.

No problem, send the pics to me when ur wedding is over n when u < busy......

My email is [email protected]

Hi Female

Just a thot, mebbie you should post the seamstress's contact no. in this thread, if not you would need to keep emailing to many others who are keen to try out your recommendation.

Peter Chew Tel: 6781 1926 (Charges for workmanship 200+)

Hannah Boutique - #03-04 The Arcade (Raffles Place) Tel: 6324 1148

Hi chicory,

Nope, it doesnt include material charges.

If you are using material wif beadings, the workmanship charges will be higher. That is what I heard from her.

hi girls,

sorry, didnt realise this thread is still active! been v v busy w pre & post wedding stuff, house, honeymoon arrangements etc *sweat*

thanks girlfren, for "lightening the load". unfortunately, the pixs are not out yet, so ive got nothing to share. im also leaving for my honeymoon tomorrow. what i;ll do now is to send my 1st fitting to you girls. the final product has beading on the bodice.

fairymoss, kim does go shopping for fabric with you. a VERY GOOD thing. coz we laymen dunno how to "see" and choose cloth. kim was complaining that a girl bought on her own & it was really not suitable (i saw). btw, she does that peranakan bodice design too. also, prices depend on design. my bridesmaid's dress (satin) was $120 all in.

my hubbie likes the gowns & esp. the cheongsam. hee. a few guests also asked for my seamtress's contact, so i guess, all in all, i did get away w the sexy dress!
happy.gif

good luck with your preps. i cant wait to come back here to gossip & share-share!
happy.gif

hi female,
congratulations on your wedding. Must be having an enjoyable time now on your honeymoon. Keep us updated when you come back. Will be waiting to see all the finished pieces.

Hi all,

For everyone's infor. I am using Kim to tailor my CS.

She went to Arab St wif me to buy the material. She is a nice lady. Wont b able to comment on her skills bt based on her potential customer base, I dare to say her skills shld b nt bad.

hi girlfriend,
Are you the same girl as the one in Flamingo thread?

Can share your CS design with me? I'm currently thinking of organza with emboidery with satin as an underly? Wonder how much will that cost for workmanship?

Hi eggie,

Ya same gf as the one in Flamingo thread.. hahahha i dun haf $ to ask Shirley to make CS for me so haf to outsource for cheaper alternative.

I bought pink organza silk with small embroderies & beadings with satin as the base.

If I am not wrong, based on Kim's quotation. Workmanship shld b $120 cos' organza is firm material.

Total shld be ard $200+

Hi female,

Wonder if I am too late. Are you still sharing pix of your gowns? Would like to take a look because mom wants to source for a seamstress to make a dress for attending wedding dinners. My previous seamstresses have migrated and I am lost now.

My email [email protected]

Thanks!

hi girlfriend,

you have the same design in mind with me. What kind of cutting you take for your cheongsam? bareback with halter or the one with the traditional look?

Btw, how many metres of cloth u bought? 2 1/2 metres enough? Cause I might want to go to Arab St too see see. But it'll be too early for me to make one now since my wedding is only towards end of next year. sigh.

Eggie,

Err... I dun dare to bare my back...

You see organza is transulcent, most probably will see the skin frm collar area. Mine is sleeveless.

Pai seah, i wear size L... so i need 3m. Normal size S-M, 2.5m shld b enffu. You can go Arab Street see see look look.

If you are looking for Kim to tailor it, it will b good to bring her along cos' professional opinion counts. Moreover, she is on quite good terms wif some shop owners so she can drive a harder bargain for you.

Btw, she helped me to save alot of $.

I was deciding between the materials and she asked me to buy the cheaper one cos' she said not worth it to buy expensive material. hehehe

hihi..

Can check with you ladies..whether kim hv ur own design?? or do i hv to gv her a design?? i m clueless abt wat i wan for my tea dress..so it will b great if she can recommend...

Thanks.

hi girlfriend,
thanks for your advice. most probably will get Kim to tailor for me too. Keep us update on how your CS will be
happy.gif

hi chinadoll,

Abt yr question on design, i am not too sure. However, i am sure it will help if you can roughly tell her what you like/want for her to come out wif a design for you. If not, you can cut out a few designs that you like, she can help to advise if its suitable for you.

Eg: neckline, length, color

It will defintely help a lot.

Gee eggie no prob, will keep you updated. I showed my FMIL the material, she said I only need 2m. .

Here is the pix of the material that I got from Arab Street.
