A Place for Singles

Envy is me. Haha...

Actually am trying to explore the possibility of surprising my FW with a short trip overseas and officially 'pop da question' whilst over there.

But budget quite tight la. Any suggestions?

mac, nearby bintan lor... cheap.. desaru beach also quite nice... just that that place not very much developed... my aunt opens a travel agency... to desaru only 188 2 days one night...

i'm only going KL.. no need to envy... just need to get away

Desaru.. haven't heard much of that place before. Anyone been there before can offer some feedback?

Hmm, but then again, it's just a thought la. I'm still trying to make up my mind between creating the romantic setting for the proposal and saving the money to upsize my budget for her proposal ring. Headache when money not enough!

Ceci, going KL to 'get away' is not bad at all! Anything beats being stuck here

I know, no need to go overseas... but the novelty of being on a holiday in a foreign country serves to spice the mood up already, no?

Given the same 'budget', to try and create something 'romantic' in Singapore will be tough.

Like what I always say, the difference between a Sweet guy and a Romantic guy is how much money he has. ;)

hi bro,

not true lah.

Rather, a poor romantic guy is either more eng or he is very siao on abt it cos need to spend time to think of ideas. For the rich chap, he pay pple to think and deliver the romance. Not quite the same as the poor but romantic guy. He has to DIY everything from planning to execution.

Hmm, what I feel is for the rich chap, he might also come up with really sweet ideas, but due to his financial abilities, he can easily translate plans into actions.

For the poor fellow, he might have really romantic ideas, but cos of budget constraints, he would have to forgo a lot of the 'romantic' factors.

For eg, given a high-flyer holding down a high position at work and drawing a handsome salary, a likely scenario would be: Guy spends weeks thinking up ideas and planning every details to perfection. He makes a surprise arrangement to pick up his FW after work on a Friday evening and whisk her off in his BMW to a very posh restaurant. Her favourite songs are played in the background, her favourite dishes served, they wine and dine over chatter of their sweet memories of the past. Towards the end of the dinner, a huge bouquet of her favourite flowers surprise her again. He then reveals his plan of a weekend stay at a Fullerton hotel suite. Before she could digest her joy, they arrive at their room. When the door opens, she finds the entire room littered with rose petals. He pulls out a little Tiffany blue box, unveils the sparkling diamond ring from within, goes down to his knee and proposes. They then take a relaxing bath in the hot tub, and enjoy a bottle of champagne. The girls leans blissfully into his arms as they overlook the magnificent view from the suite...

Romantic, to most people at least, no?

An equally loving guy with a shallow pocket will no doubt love to do that for a girl, but it's beyond him.

The poor chap can display his love too no doubt - taking 3 buses to da-bao food from her favourite stalls all over Singapore just to surprise her with supper when she's hungry. Waiting for her in the rain with umbrella after school/work. Queue for hours to get her a Hello Kitty.

All girls I believe will be delighted with such similar actions taken by a guy, but would they classify a lengthy bus ride to east coast park for a private bbq as a romantic memory? Say, versus an evening drive up to Mt. Faber for a picnic under the stars?

I admit the line between Sweet and Romantic is a thin one. But my opinion is that with moolah, a guy can easily make a sweet gesture become a romantic one.

Oh yes, also bear in mind that the rich chap if willing, can also do all the 'sweet' things for the girl. But sadly, the poor chap can only seek to invent sweet things to do for the girl. Perhaps still possible to create a 'romantic' environment when needed, but chances are stacked against him I think.

Hi guys... back from facial
happy.gif
din get to go gym though cos decided to meet hb for dinner then go for a walk later.

Hey Mach, I dun agree that the diff between a sweet guy and a romantic guy is money leh. I think gals just like an element of surprise.. it doesn't necessarily require money but creativity on your part.

BTW, I think popping the qn during a trip is quite common la. Worse is if the plan "backfires" (what if the gf starts to compare w other frens who had "better" proposals at more exotic destinations??).. I know a fren's fren who proposed to her gf during a safari trip in Africa (w a pink diamond somemore!) and my hb's fren proposed to his gf on a mountain in Australia.

So good luck and be creative! You can always test your ideas on us! Hehe..

hi bro,

it is not really what we do that create the romance. Yes, we can have all kind of sweet ideas with or without money. But the important factor is actually the appreciation from the gal.

A simple walk can be really romantic to one while, a drive down in a BMW or even helicoper ride to some posh restaurant might not mean much to another. So, as long as we find the gal that appreciates us, that's more important!

We can only remain happy and stay romantic to one that appreciates our creativity and not one that expects more everytime.

G-gal, if gf just jokingly comment abt ideas not being original enough, it is still fine. But if a gal reject him just cos she wants her 'dream' proposal, then I think she is really naive and childish liao. Does she marry for the love of her bf or the fulfillment of her little dream.

Btw, my hb proposed to me in a v humble setting...his rented room! We had dinner at a "cheap" restaurant, then we went back to him place where he surprised me w my favourite lilies and a watch. But that's not the clincher. It was what he said to me.. i can't really repeat it verbatim, but it was really heartfelt and eloquent and I was v v touched.

Mach you wrote "The poor chap can display his love too no doubt - taking 3 buses to da-bao food from her favourite stalls all over Singapore just to surprise her with supper when she's hungry. Waiting for her in the rain with umbrella after school/work. Queue for hours to get her a Hello Kitty.

I say... give me the bus ride and bbq anytime!!! A drive up Mt Faber and picnic under the stars is so Unoriginal and Passe! ;)

hi mach,

ever thought of learning to cook and then creating a new dish to propose to her?

But make sure u done enough practice

Ideas doesn't always need money. We can be creative within our budget.

I surprised my ex when I mend her clothes for her. I can sew better than my wife too.

Mach,

i like wat u wrote... hehe. i kinda agree actually... for me i just remain sweet (financially stingy)... romance-wise, it's great but i never wanted to be a romantic guy... i'm actually freakin thoughtful... but if still need to be romantic then i think i might as well live for the woman. which i'll never do.... u're either romantic or u're not... if u're not, it'll be a tough act to follow, so best to just be thoughtful...

Yeah... I agree w powder, to me, a thoughtful guy is better than a romantic guy. A romantic guy seems a bit of a "dreamer" and cld be "hua yan qiao yu" (too glib). Also, it builds expectations which cld make it hard for u to live up to.

well, it depends what we classify as romantic.

To me, romance is simply having fun in your relationship. If there isn't any fun in it, there isn't much romance whether we take a bus, car or helicopter or a jet.

It isn't a dream. Romance can be really down to earth too.

At the same time, we can have really thoughtful pple that we simply find so boring.

OK, I'm not a romantic person... quite pragmatic in comparison to most gals I think... but I think we have fun in our marriage. Not necessary the "candle lit dinner, dozen roses" kinda romantic but we definitely have our share of fun memories ;) Have to agree that some thoughtful pple are boring as hell... hmm.. guess we need to strike a balance here.

mach! you are such a romantic and thoughtful guy! your gf is indeed very lucky.

there are so many suggestions here already. do a simple one, no need to spend too much money. save the money for other impt stuff.

just to share, during my sec days, i received roses and stuff toys from guys from a nearby school also known as powder's sec school. simple things like these will put a smile on any gal's face, right? well, not for me, i was so embarassed that i threw everything into my school bag and made sure no one saw them. and for days after that, i refused to go to the same bus-stop as those guys...aiyooo, so malu leh.

like ggal, i am very pragmatic. to me, these stuff are a waste of money. no need mushy mushy stuff la. i will be happy with just wantan mee or chicken rice at any hawker centre..hahah

well, so much for my story, hahaha. i am sure your gf will appreciate whatever you do for her. jia you !!

morning........

aiya, wat's the news??..they wanted a pay rise, so must make excuse here n there....give ka kia some pay rise n make sure they had big big one..

Morning peeps... back to the grind today..:P

Mach, it's easier for me to rob you after you've robbed the ministers since you dun have any bodyguards, so I'll be waiting ;)

Wah Latino... so lucky... got flowers and stuffed toys somemore. The most I got was some handmade card. Looks like most of the guys are knew were pretty poor! :P

... not to mention political science will suddenly become a hotter choice than before in local unis.. =P

G~gal, I'm built like a bodyguard myself. So you might want to rethink your plans leh. Haha..

Eh, guys poor never mind, so long as he knows how to please a girl right?
happy.gif

Hehe... thanks powder ;)

Mach, you dun always need brute strength. Brain and creativity are more important ;)

BTW, I took PS in uni.. was pure hell for a former pure science student who never paid attention to history and couldn't understand the tutors thick Indian accent... :P

I would love to do political science myself. If...

Anyway.

Oi, are you suggesting I've no brains and creativity? I'm not a brute strength person okay. My FW tells me all the time I've got gentle hands and I'm as sweet a guy there ever is. Hah!

Hahaha... RaRa so cute..

Me waiting for lunch to arrive :P Got a colleague to da-bao for me.

Where're Salsa and Latino today?? So quiet...

Mach Ajosshi!! thanks ya for according me so much "respect".

enjoy urself around here mach jijii.

RaRa's powerful vocab has blown me away. I'm stumped by the terms like Ajosshi and jijii.
sad.gif

Can anyone please enlighten me on what they mean so I might attempt conversing with RaRa in future?

Mach, RaRa is our resident Japanese senseh/guru. She just called you gramps (jiji).. hehehe... Not too sure what Ajosshi is. Some term of endearment, I'm sure ;)

Ggal, Hahaha.. endearment. I'm sure. I fail to share your optimism on that one though. =P

Milo, I think laundry watches the very complicated kind. Some call it Hentai.

*grins*

someone is missing me? hehehe.....
me on urgent leave today. The little prince is sick and sis cant extend her leave, so I volunteered to take a day off to take care of him lor. His virus has passed on to sis and mum liao.

ggal, i looking for you whole morning. saw your posts on the forum, but you did not reply my message on msn...sob sob.

ok, catch up with you later.

Dear M&M,

Dun get me prioritised on other peeper's To Save list again ok? It's the squeaky clean kind. Usu revolves around kawaii little ninja boys (excuse moi, I not paedophile either) or half-demons.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,

I'd like to dedicate my 100th post on SgBrides.com to this thread.

I'd like to thank my Father and Mother. I'd also like to thank my beautiful FW for surfing this forums incessantly to the point where I got suckered into popping by to take a look for myself.

I'd like to share a short poem I humbly penned to commemorate this milestone.

The End

Hushes of fright escape the soldiers
Boots quaking beneath thinning hearts
Ghosts of fears arrive in shudders
Veins pumping with freezing blood
The tools of the Reaper clasped tight
As gusts of Death dance and tease
Clouds of Despair mist their sight
It dawns upon them, a Grim disease
The Lunar Goddess spares a broken smile
Masked beneath the crescent's showers
They yearn to rise but their might is quelled
By a mellow crescendo of passing hours
Within the flesh, a storming will once shone
Now remains a shredded scarlet will
Amidst shadows of doom The Owl stands alone
In company of wraiths he sounds his last shrill
Like leeches from Hell clinging unto the Earth
Slain warriors slept on the bed of fires
At the feet of comrades standing above
Impaled upon bolts of piercing silence
Relieved only by ghastly screams of men
Kissed and feasted by the vilest fangs
With tormented eyes they looked to Heavens
And prayed for swiftness in their macabre end

More good years ahead!
Huat ah!

laundry, hentai jijii's will think like hentai jijii's.
wink.gif

g~gal, complimenting or suaning me har? sigh... i wish i was as zai as you make me out to be. too bad all that I have right now are half buckets of everything. anyway, i meant old man instead of grandpa in this context.
biggrin.gif
