A Place for Singles

G~gal, for the size of the swift, you can find many other cheaper hatchbacks within ur budget mah, like jazz and colt plus. but gotta compromise on the appearance a bit lor. :p

oh so many updates while I was replying. thanks simpleman. i guess it's most important to make a decision you're comfortable with. it's so stressful to make big money decisions when you have little to begin with!!

G~gal, it's def harder looking for 2nd car. really gotta shop around, unless the car gurus here got good lobangs! don't be like us. I wished we could've shopped around. my bf was also kinda pressurized by his dad, who was with us, to get this car cos the workshop was recommended by his dad's friend.

Cecilia, haha u replied my pm thru sms remember? it's ridiculous leh... the thread doesn't even exist anymore and she could quote you!!

hehehe....i think i know wat liao

good life....lim kopi

RaRa/Simpleman, yup will definitely think about the sums more carefully cos I'll have a pay cut on my next job before the projects start coming in. So must save more cash for rainy days. Think it was a bad idea to involve my hb's colleague in the car shopping :P Gave him all the stupid ideas about 10 yr loan.. siao.. So anybody know a gd 2nd hand car dealer???

ggal, Normally for 2nd hand car you need more time to shop around. I don't believe there is a particularly good 2nd hand car dealer as at the end of the day, they are out to make money.

You can shop around. No committment. Get used to the brand/age/price of the cars. There are some online ones as well. So take your time.

When you are ready then perhaps you can go down to some of the cart mart (2nd hand one) to inspect the car and test drive.

Give yourself more time. Anyway, start on your driving lessons first. Learn more about cars so it would be easier.

Sometimes, cars which have just been bought over by a car dealer will be hidden behind and not placed out in front so it may be worth the effort to search around. Those cars may look old cos they have not been polished or the upholstery vacuumed, but you can use this to help you bargain for a good deal. At the end of the day, do know your prices well and you need to be comfortable with the car during the test drive. I'm quite a lay person so I look out for the mileage when scouting for 2nd hand cars, although I think it's not impossible to "doctor" the figures there.

ya rara! thats why i was so shocked! i can't even remember that incident.. and she could actually reply with that quote from me.. means she actually copied and paste that page lor.. haha! and she admitted she is petty...
uhoh.gif

cecilia, ya she probably saved the page. and she had no recent posts leh... out for revenge one. maybe she didn't manage to sell her bag in the end so she's sore.

diana.. thats the problem w being justice person.. hehe!

too bad lor... she just make herself look ugly :p

been long enough in this forum to see all sorts of such funny characters.. i also dunno why i machiam like a target... maybe they jealous??

Oh... chey.. sibeh boliao.. just ignore lor. But hor.. I won't pay $600 for the bag if that what the original amt Ceci paid for. Even if new, it's considered 2nd hand so shldn't it be even cheaper?

Eh.. here's a car joke...
Dr M tried to sell the Kancil to the US. So he paid a visit to the White House, and after finishing formal discussions with George Bush, Dr M checks with Bush to find out if there is a way to sell the Kancil in the USA.

After having looked at the brochure, Bush said, "You know, I think this 'KERNCHILL' is too small for us Americans."

Not one who gives up easily, Dr M persisted and finally Bush offered, "Ok, take this number down. This guy is my good buddy and he's also the CEO of the biggest compact car distributor in North America ."

Dr M was satisfied with the meeting and returns to Malaysia . The next day he called the number and a lady answered ,"TOYS R US , can I help you?"

ggal, I don't think it is fair to compare to the price cecilia paid. It should be compared to what we can get in SG. If it is really $849 for a new bag then paying $600 is a good deal as long as it is new and not used (even 2nd hand lah).

But paying $600 for a bag? For my wife yes but I have no wife now.

simpleman, i guess you really dote on your wife lor..

I also wan a $600 bag... but i guess it's always better to earn for it myself...

powder, your car expenses analysis is good.

But hor, your insurance is 2.2K/yr? so exp?

And your tyres - $250x4 per yr = 1k/yr as well. You have 17inch tyres? Guess for most people driving normal cars, their tyres will be much cheaper. And you need to change tyre every year?

Mine is 18/R40/235, about 360 per tyre or 1440 for 4 tyres. And I use them for 2 to 3 years.

addy, talk about wife sometimes can make me a wee bit sad. Right up to her affair being exposed (at the time she was already having affair and not exposed), I bought her a diamond ring (and she said that her friend's one is bigger!) and to top it all, I bought her a Tag Heuer watch as well to make her happy (to compensate for the smaller diamond ring).

Funny thing is that I don't see her wearing the ring or the watch anymore. Maybe she sold or pawn it already?

no la...

I guess maybe the other guy didn't like her wearing that?!?

anyway, it's really her loss to lose you la. i know how it feels. And hor, i dont even have diamond ring lor... haha.

But i do believe that money can't buy love. It's funny how we all slog like mad for a better life but when it's presented to us on a silver platter, we tend to take it for granted...

Hmm.. my motto... the grass is always greener on my side.. I am happy with what I have. I am not unhappy with what I don't have. Everything else is a bonus..

nice guys always lose out. nice gals always lose out... well, not all the time la... there are also winners.

i see so many of my nice guy friends being dumped and vice versa. their other half find their jian partners more attractive.

what can we say? i agree, grass is always greener the other side. what you cannot get, seems more challenging.

aiya, this topic must talk face to face la. it's so very very wide. and i am no expert cos i hv no advice, just my ears, shoulders and my time for my friends, 24/7.

latino, I don't quite agree. Who says being dumped is not a blessing in disguise. What is the definition of winner/loser? You won't know till the end.

Life is fair.. if it is not fair it is our mindset. Most of the times we don't see beyond the obvious. What we don't have we complain and says it is unfair. When we have we don't appreciate.

simpleman, ok ok, being dumped is a blessing. i am the last person to know abt such things. i am not an expert at matters of the heart cos i dont hv that much experience like many of you.
happy.gif

hmm....somehow, i tink if the other half stray and choose to leave might nt be bad afterall...coz u can concentrate on recovery...but if the other half choose to stay wif u, u hv more doubts and harder times in moving on....

it a sad truth lor....

hi simpleman,

i also noted that abt Powder's breakdown. I guess it depends on the type of tyres and his driving habits and frequency.

Same for the insurance, it will depend on the type & cc of car & how much ncd.

YOu see, for my case, my wife dumped me. Ok. On the surface I am the loser right? She is the winner?

But after a while I got on recovery. I have the kids and I am perfectly happy with what I have. As for her, I never see her smile or laugh after that day she walked out. Is she happy?

She has to ask for permission to bring the children out. She even have lost the moral authority on the children. And towards me and the children, she always have this guilty feeling which will haunt her for the rest of her life.

milo, Yeah I know abt the tyres.. But 1 year to change tyre is too frequent. Unless he really choose those tyres that wear out pretty fast.

Mine is also low profile and high performance tyres but I can get 2 years easily. You need to rotate every 6 months to maximize.

I know he got a 2L alfa (156?). Perhaps he don't have NCD that is why insurance so high.

Its easy to get a closure if one party is at fault for the breakup.

To me the most traggic is to be separated by death. A cruel trick that life plays on us. It is difficult to let go of a relationship like this.

simpleman, i am no winner too even though ultimately my husband choose me instead of her mah...in fact, i feel she still win....coz, she hv moved on liao...while i am still struggling to move on mah....

teo bo....

;-p

diana. ha ha.. you see.. you think that you have not won because you are still struggling to move on..

What if you change your mindset and is able to move one. Won't you win as well? Whether you win or lose, whether you can move on or not it is entirely up to you. If you are unable to move on, yes, you still lose. But that is the past already, why be haunted by the past?
