A Place for Singles

powder, ya that's what my dad said also... i can afford to cheong since my hb got the "iron rice bowl". Keke... And true that I provide the luxuries since i earn more.

Latino..it's inspiring that you gave up the corporate world to pursue your dream. I'd do that too... maybe when I have a kid and hb can support us. I'd like a part time job dabbling in creative work. In fact right now I do have a 2nd "job" which provides me with some creative outlet and extra cash.

go where go where? tmr cannot la...

g-gal, thats very true abt civil service.. cos i'm working in one too... haha! at least this year not bad... got 2.2months... plus my mid year and one month performance bonus in march... i think i'm getting reasonable pay... hehe

*Mental note to myself: Find a partner who cheongs since I'm the one with the "iron rice bowl".* Not fair!!! I wanna cheong too! But my cheong-ing bo lwee one leh.

G~gal, u need to approach a lawyer to make a will. But dun need too reputable one lah. Expensive. Making wills quite fuss-free one.

Ah siao, u went for overseas education? Where?? *Blardy rich kids* Eheheheh...
happy.gif
Aiyah, u can turbo anything wat.
Evo - MIVEC turbo
Integra - VTEC turbo??
I go turborised the Chery QQ...

Morning peeps! Just one more day before I kiss my cubicle existence goodbye...till Jan 07!

Ceci.. you mean this yr can get 2.2 months + mid yr + 1 mth performance?? Gotta go and ask hb liao.. hahaa.... I think performance 1 mth is only the min right?

Laundry.. you zo mata? Also buay pai one... some hons grads can make 3K upon graduation right? At least when the economy is not so gd, you dun have to worry about retrenchment...

So any good but cheap lawyer to recommend??

G-gal, u've got an understanding dad there! i was so touched when my buddy's FIL told him the same... tat he dun have to worry about stabilty cos his daughter can easily support him, so why not take the opportunity whilst still young to chase his biz dreams and try to make good, at most just fall back to normality... he's the coolest FIL i've seen around man! we call him by his name.

g-gal, depend on which ministry you are at... mid year everyone got 0.5 + $220... 1 mth performance is in Mar... for my scheme 1.25 is the max...min is 0.5

you wan lawyer for what?

laundry woes, you in spf ah?

haha.. so good... for me, my hb and i also can't cheong.. cos he sign on air force one haha! but we are planning our 'leave the civil service' plan liao haha!

Powder, my dad is pretty cool lah..although he used to beat me last time. Afterall he's the one who introduced me to the world of rock and roll and heavy metal. Ya.. I've been dreaming about being an entrepreneur or "mom-preneur".. so hopefully can fulfill that a couple of yrs later..

Ceci.. i need a lawyer to make a will lor..

Ceci, must u announce to the entire planet our bonus? As it is, the entire S'pore already knows leh. Eheheh...

G~gal, 2.2 mths only. We got the mid-yr bonus in Jul already. Performance bonus is in Mar.

Eh, why everyone thinks I zo mata? Wat gave u all the idea? PPCDL is a boating license. Nothing to do with mata. I not part of the mata-hood lah. Hons grads can make 3k meh? U talking abt in spf? Tat I dunno. Maybe govt scholars. Starting pay for govt in general used to be around $2.5k, depending on hons. Now revised downwards liao!

Erm... u want my ah gong's lawyer? Tat's how I got to know about making wills leh. Not sure of the costs though.

dont get it. what is this 'cheong' thing? one with iron rice bowl..the other 'cheong'. what type of work/job is a cheong job? does cheonging here means make alot of money? *scratch head*

yeah, it's good to have a cool dad... i hope i can be a cool dad too. tat's why i trying to buy leather jackets once in awhile... and hopefully i can get my Class 2 licence then can buy a Triumph! rite now i already getting the latest Bandanas from 77th street...
happy.gif
i wanna be the Coolest Dad in town!

whahaha!! powder powder powder... haha! you dun have to wear 'cool' to be cool ya...

laundry , whole world knows already ma... since g-gal asked i tell lor... its in the papers big big today! hahaha! my cols here earn a lot leh... got more than 3K one... with only more than a year experience... they are scholars la.. normal degree students here also can earn abt 3k... think unless you are fresh grad, the starting is abt $2.4 or more... but every year increment is few hundred... one promotion another few hundred.... with bonus everything.. ok la.

yes Latino, Cheong is to chase for money... but can also chase for those crazy Biz ideas which u just wanna try lor... like i stable job, then wifey wanna chase her Cafe / Florist / Watever dreams also can, so she cheong lor... nomatter wat happens, i can still support the expenditures mah...

Ceci, i was thinking of being a Biker Daddy... keke. Triumph Rulez....! hahahahahhaa (everything use a "z" to sound young and techie)

erm... do u guys wanna hear some stuff about bonus which will forever make u feel lousy?

Powder, I also thot of taking the Class 2 licence leh. Cheaper to maintain bike mah. But my idea got majorly veto-ed by family & frens. I dun deny it's more dangerous compared to car lah. My fren's Magma looks very chio leh. Else can upgrade to Class 2B and buy Super 4. Wat's Triumph?

Latino, I very happeningz hor? Bikez I also knowz lehz.

Ceci, ya, I'm talking about starting pay for fresh grads. Dun talk about scholars lah. They breathe different air from us common folks.

ok ok powder got it...hahaha...i so blur...

this means, i am cheonging now la. but i dont hv backup..it's me n me alone lor. if your wife cheong, at least she got backup from you...heheh

cheonging not necessarily make money. long hours, no fixed salary, no annual n medical leave etc. but die die also must try...only live once meh.

goooogal, must continue to dream ah!

chey.. scholars are nothing lor... my group ahs 2 scholars.. previously 3... nothing fantastic.. just the pay is diff... they always 'suan' by me... too straight can't think out of the box...

hahaha laundry! you everything also know. clever gal ! good good..you beginning to be more powderful than powder. will see more suanning here.. wah, can call you AMAZON WOMAN !! WOMAN WITH SUBSTANCE !!

you make us LADIES so proud of you !!

Wait. U talking about scholar scholars or scholars on the AO scheme (tat's administrative service - where the high-fliers are from)? I quite impressed with AOs leh. They can predict wat sort of weird dreams our top mgmt can have and pre-empt them in proposing it one. Solid. But the detachment between top mgmt and the commonfolks is still there. Hence the failure of quite a no. of schemes.

Wah. Eh. Dun liddat leh. There are way more things that everyone else knows. Powder been thru more shit than I ever have (this is supposed to be a compliment hor). I've led a pretty sheltered life. Still learning. I can tell u there's something I dunno. Men & marriage. Totally confuses me.

the scholars dun go straight into AO scheme... so all scholars (except those that are ministry scholars) start the same... one day they may work way up high, keke, then i will start to think they are solid... haha!...

Ya Laundry is da "wo-man"!! Keke...

Ceci.. I also dunno what's so great about scholars.. most got there by rote learning also what.. duh.

Latino... I'm still dreaming lah.

Powder, like Ceci says.. what you wear won't make you cool lah. Hehe... But everyone is cool in their own way huh
happy.gif
I hope my hb can teach our kids to hip hop.. I asked if he wants them to join 1-min of fame on kids' central but he said no... :P

actually i also always so blur. ok be humble and continue to learn from each other. must keep asking questions.

laundry, i second you. i refused to understand men n marriage. so i do without them lor. go out n cheong better. sorry guys..no offence ok.

sori was negotiating a deal earlier...

Laundry, dun learn bike... not for girls... u can't live with the scars etc... i got 3 bike accidents to date, so i quit. promised mum hit 3 and still alive, tat i'll quit... so i took to driving...

Ceci, no lah not tat 13mth thing... tat one small thing... i'm normally more careful when talking abt such stuff... cos some pple cannot take it - it's inconceiveable by normal standards.

g-gal, ya overstated.. instead, if they are so good, they will benefit the economy better by venturing outside, and not in civil service... where red tape and limitations exists...

i got into two bike accidents be4... hb was riding during courtship days.. my FIL was so pissed that within a year make him learn driving and bot a car for him... haha.. indeed dangerous.. i lost a few friends from bike accidents... one is my best friend (lady) who rode a class 2A bike into m'sia and died just pass the causeway... its not somthing you will want to remember (the funeral)

powder say la... i believe the ppl here will be interested to know... whether can accept its their own call

wah Laundry u compliment me ah... hehe
embarrassed.gif

oh there are some really cool scholars around. not the study type, just naturally intelligent and logical.

Eh, dun play already lah. I shy. Wait u all scare away the men from me then how? I can be quite xiao nu ren one hor. Esp when u look like Josh Hartnett.
happy.gif

Ceci, oh ya. The scholars have to go thru screening to get onto the AO scheme hor?

Bedokboy, I can't make it. Already have a dinner appt. Unless u all go to the same restaurant lor. Then I biyo u all from afar. Ahahah...

Powder, too late leh. I am already scarred. My mother didn't leash me when I was younger.

they have to prove their 'worth' kekeke, but of cos its easier for them cos the roads for them are already created and they just need to perform well... for normal fols... you gotta work real hard..

Frankly, it's a bit scary to see Powder blush... Eh, macho men dun blush hor.

Ya, most bikers I know have had accidents. Some with pretty serious consequences. Tat's why I dun persist since my family and frens dun like lor. They worry too much about me liao. :P

why we talking abt scholars har? Aren't we initially talking about Hard Knocks and Success? no link leh... kekekeke
biggrin.gif

laundry, i not really blushing... i pretending to blush so tat more pple will scroll up and take note of the compliment u paid me... i'm not humble with peers at all...

erm, successful meh? it's and relative i guess...

u give me taxpayers money and backing i also can be 'successful' lah... sori hor, i dun hold back one lah... the really good scholars i know reject civil service or break their bond liao... and living more rounded happy lives in the real world.

Success is relative.. agree. At least they have their career paths chartered out for them... But of course can also say that they could've gotten greater success if they have broken out of the mould by joining the private sector. On the other hand, I've known so many people who rather stick to the tried and tested route in public service cos they've settled into the comfort zone.

Like my fren.. a PSC scholar with an overseas Masters degree... she came back to join a Ministry as a Manager straightaway. True she's bonded, but she won't break the bond anyway cos to her a) the private sector is unchartered territory...civil service offers predictability (no such thing as retrenchment and promotions every couple of yrs) b) you can't be a Manager as a fresh grad in a private sector company. So she's got it made.. success without hard knocks...fixed level-based salaries and bonuses, tax-payer paid travel priviledges to Europe few times a yr... what's there not to envy? We want freedom away from the confining structure of public service... but for these "mandarins" there's no other better place to be.

Har? Cool meh? I wanna go remove a layer of epidermis liao. Or bleach myself like Michael Jackson.

Powder did it again. Very humbly blowing his own trumpet. *kowtow*

Ceci, they suaning us leh. How ah? For me, it was an unexpected twist in life lah. I also used to diss civil service life coz both my parents work for the govt. My 1st job was in the pte sector. Solid. Had the best times there. Pay sucked but I got to travel & meet all sorts of fun people from all over the world. Well, all good things come to an end. The company closed operations in S'pore. Needed the money, so here I am, working for the govt.

G-gal me no envy tat... but different strokes for different folks lor... i can't imagine being able to know how much i can earn Alllll the way until i retire... tat's Soooo Soooo Scary! u almost immediately know tat That's It! tat's about as much as u can get and are worth... eeks!

so predictable and no uncertainties... means we just stay 'safe' and we shuld be ok. i think this kills the potential brain cells and remove bits of tat ambitious element of risk-taking... not my cup of tea for sure. it's like knowing if i make 10k/mth, then in 1 year i get 120k, then in 10years i can be a millionaire on paper... erm 10yrs???? like tat i will just go thru the motion for the next 10yrs and avoid getting into trouble, just be a yes-man and follow the majority...

i'm a person who will go, "wah 10yrs so long ah? erm, got 5yrs one or not?"... then if i know the 5yrs one, i'll look for the 3yrs one... then look for the 1-year one... i super itchy-backside... die die must shorten the road. cos wanna enjoy my passions and chase small little taxi driver dreams sooner rather than later...

friday i'll be there! in spirit...

just to add... basically i'm a person who Dun Want to see my mundane life flash before me... i want to be able to Dream of Romantic Dreamy Little Things... and the only way for me to BELIEVE my Dreams can come true, is to go on unchartered courses that May afford me my own Jet Planes to fly to Wherever, Whenever. i want to dream, dreams CANNOT die... Dreams die becos u stop aiming for them... Dreams die becos u Dun Believe in them... u Dun believe in them becos your 10k/mth, 1mil/decade income CANNOT achieve them... and so u Already Give Up the day u settle for 'THIS JOB'.

u know, i Still believe in Santa Claus and Elves... and i want my children to grow up believing in Santa too!

I din say I envy ah... but for many people a garmen job is super senang and super safe. You can't lose your job unless you are superx1000 lousy or committed an offense. You CAN be sure you'll reach a certain level of earnings (at least you know you WILL get $X after certain time), you get all sorts of welfare, and even public recognition (for those who think such things are important).

Anyway, it's all about stability vs uncertainty, slow n steady vs faster route to riches and other such comparisons. For my hb, he's definitely not the enterprising one and it's best he sticks to his civil service job or something related to academia. I feel good knowing he's making some contribution to our country, although ironically, he's not a S'porean! He's fine with a routine and doing something he believes in besides making a living or chasing some dreams. For me, I abhor the routine, the hierarchy and the smallmindedness of garmen depts.

Not all pple are cut out to wheel and deal, be a towkay, earn big bucks and live happily ever after... so for those who are less enterprising, not bothered by the a slow and steady rise, and want a job with regular hours (this is v important for me and hb) a job in the garmen service is definitely better than most choices. Dun say garmen job like machiam prison like that lah... or like pple in public service got no dreams... v mundane lives like that. To you, your dream job is your dream job alone, to others, that garmen job is their dream job. So long as everyone is happy, making the level of income they are happy with, then everything's fine.
