Hey Moss389,

I like alvelyn's work too! its very art. hehe do you know if she is doing shoots on her own or do i have to go through bryan jean? Cos i emailed bryan jean recently, kinda pricey for his work and 9 hours i feel. Is this 9 hours thing a norm?? Its the first time i'm hearing it.

Hello girls!

I just came back from Shanghai and got my CS done there! Prices are not (exactly) cheaper cuz we got it done at the proper CS shop where the workmanship is exquisuite, rather than at the fabric market.

Jean > 9 hours to 10 hours is a norm. This will cover the morning session and then the banquet. Bryan Jean has a big ego... when we first met him, we didn't like the way he boasted "I am one of the youngest master photographer...". Young, but boastful attitude.

Kass: o okok. I know that the norm is usually 10 hours. hmm i'm thinking if i have the usual morning make up and gate crash followed by church, tea ceremony and short outdoor shoot. And again banquet in the night, 10 hours might not be enough ya? =(

i didnt get to speak to Bryan, cos i feel he is very expensive for his work. But i did a little research and found that there are actually quite a few master photographers around and there is a certain level or grading? Any idea whats the difference?

It depends on how long is your church ceremony? I am not having one... but when my friend did hers, she put the timing on the invite as 12-2 so at least 2 hours? Dinner will be 7-11pm, that's 4 hour already gone.

It depends on the photographer. Like my photographer, he did tell me that they usually also will give and take a little, it's okay if it goes over the timing. Mine is prob 7-12noon and 6-11pm, so 10 hours thereabouts.

Hey all..

Thank you all for your help and comments in this forum.. some of your advices were to keep sourcing out photographers.. im glad we did because i think we found a special photographer

Alvelyn finally replied and we have met.. just to share abit... since no one have heard about her.. i was abit shocked initially, i never expected her to be so young.. she's not even 23. i was abit skeptical at first because of her age but after speaking more to her, i was really impressed. she's actually really mature for her age, never met any 22 year old like her before.. and that talented and so full of driven enthusiasm. my HTB thought that way too.

moss398, thanks so much for your advice.. she is no longer in sch actuallyl, she just graduated from lasalle.. after that was an intern at lightedpixels for awhile. (been following lightedpixels work for quite a while but never knew about her strangely..) and you are right... 2nd shoots for bryan jean but heard its the rarely kind.. HTB and myself very certain about her on the spot and decided to sign her. i think we found a gem. she has strong fine arts background and currently doing both weddings and commercial. heard that she will be limiting her wedding bookings too cos shes been most recently been represented for commercial projets or something.. i think to all those whom would like someone underrated, personal, arty with endless ideas, she is the one. her rates are ver reasonable too... so much lower than our budget actually. now that we didnt spent a bomb in photographer we can spent more for our honeymoon!

sapphire05 - this is her wedding blog.. www.novelsofloversinlove.tumblr.com

i am so glad that photographer settled.. next will be the number of dinner tables and videographer.. there is just so much to prepare. thank god its still 2010.. didnt know getting married can be that stressful!!

hello jean,
i have met with alvelyn, you dont have to go through bryan jean to hire her. she freelances under bryan jean and on her own too.. you may just email her.. link is on her blog.. she offers 5 hours packages.. really flexible.. and the best thing, not over priced.. if you really like her work, i suggest that you meet her. quite an interesting girl to talk to, too. haha..

let us know how it goes and all the best!

hi kass, yeah i agree with you on bryan jean, my friend met them and felt the same way too. he is quite boastful. i am not really a fan of his work either.. who did you hire btw?

Hi Mandy... it's good that you give her a chance to take wedding pics for you, provided you like her style. Definitely her prices wouldnt be competitive coz she is still a student and is not doing this professionally.

Ive heard of cases where my gfs or colleagues hired or nearly hired Expressively JoHo, William Chua or More to Purple many years ago when they were still either part-time or just started out. Their charges then were only 1K plus... but now, it's like.... 4times and above.

kass.. yeah having both helps if you are stuck and cant decide whom to pick haha..

sapphire.. thank you.. her prices are average, about 2.5K for a 10 hour AD shoot.. to us, we felt that her pricing was really fair because we budgeted AD for 5 - 6K ... oh, she is no longer a student and doing photography full time too..

Hi Mandy, 2.5K for 10hrs AD shoot for this lady. YOu might want to note that other photographers with more experience are also charging from this price & upwards.

Hi ladies! Sorry I think this has been discussed before but can someone advise what to bring for photoshoot again?? Hehe! Going this fri!!!

Hi Mandy, thks for sharing. But 2.5k for AD is ALOT of money. You must have liked her work very much to confirm on the spot. Personally, I dunno this person until u mention it in forum. And like moss, I did abit of stalking online and find her to be very vuglar and dun really have special likings to it. I think attitude and mannerism is very impt apart from photography skills. Anyway, jus my 2 cents worth and no offense.

Hi sapphire.. yes i am aware of that.. however HTB and myself realized that there is something refreshing and different about alvelyn thus we decided that she was the one.

Hi rachel.. no worries thank you for your advice and sharing your opinions.. we negotiated the hours, 3+ hours for ROM, and 7 or 8 hours for AD
happy.gif
+/- my photographer isnt too strict about her hours..

yes, i do really like her work alot.. her work does stands out strongly from the rest of the photographers.. its unique. i am actually becoming a fan. haha. i understand where you are coming from... perhaps you are judging her based on what you have seen on her other personal work/blogs etc .. her wedding works/blog isnt vulgar or rude. likewise, i would not hire someone with a bad attitude and rude. i knew my photographer had an 'attitude' before we met.. it shows quite strongly in her personal works and i found that interesting and different.. for her age, i really admire her for her truthfulness and confidence.. also, i think alot of photographers out there are not what they seem to be.. you know.. sometime last year, i heard rumors that there was a well known photographer whom always portrayed a good attitude/manners.. a fatherly figure too i think.. betrayed his couple by putting a hidden camera in their toilet at their hotel during a shoot.. with that said.. i would rather hire someone who is really him/herself and honest of who he/she is.. i have met alvelyn with my HTB, and we did not find her vulgar at all. she was really polite actually. no second thoughts at all and we are comfortable and happy with her

as for your PW shoot, bring quick bites and drinks too because from what i heard from my friends whom have done their PW, modeling can be real tiring.. good luck and have fun!

gosh.. u gals remind me of my PS!!! I miss my PS! It was so fun! but i didn't bring anything along during my PS cos my mua followed us around & he brought e stuff needed.. now then I realise there's so many things to bring!

but my mua reminded me to put on mask before his make up so tat my face won't be too dry.. maybe u gals can do that too? n he didn't wan sunblock on my face before he start on his make up, so he cleaned my face again after i told him i've applied, not sure if it's applicable to u guys. =)

Have fun guys and SMILE more!

pinkglove, think that's a norm for the MUA to clean the face and wanted it without sunblock.. they are afraid that the face is too oily and it will be difficlut to apply the makeup.. my MUA told me to just apply the essence will do.. she doesn' even want me to apply moisturizer!

I miss my PS session too! can't believe its over so fast..

I didn't prep my face for the makeup.. ie no moisturiser/sunblock.. my MUA using airbrush technique on me.. and the makeup stayed on very long without any touchups..

have lotsa of fun tmr Rachel & Evon !!!! :D

one more thing to add for PS - wear shirts/blouses with front openings, so you won't smudge the makeup or tug the hairstyle when you are changing clothes.

Enjoy your PS and have fun

Ah... yes! that's very important point pointed out by Lish! Cos i remb that for my 1st day of PS but on my 2nd day i forgot and my mua had my hair half done up before I remb that I was still in my t-shirt! Luckily managed to get changed successfully so that my hair wasn't messed up.

sapphire: i still put on my usual toner, moisturizer then if he doesn't want it, he will just clean my face before he puts on e make up...

Hi Clint.. Im not planning to give any surprise. I expect a surprise from him instead. ahahaha.. Maybe you can sing a song or give a speech thanking him (?), or like what Xue suggested, a video montage.
