When to give out the invitation card

Hi all,

Wondering when is the good time to give out the invitation card generally?

My wedding will be Some time in nov, wonder will it be too early to give it out now (June) as the cards are with me already and don't want to hold on too long. Target to give out in July maybe

IMO, try not to distribute more than 2 months before the date. Cos there is a tendency that people might forget.

Have u already tentatively checked if your guests can make it? Like a save the date thing? You can do this a few months ahead. Then about a month before the date, send the actual invites to those who can attend. For those who can't make it, you can use the few months in between to ask other people so u can fill the seats or maybe ask for a smaller venue/less tables. Finally about a week ahead, send text/call reminders.

Hi Chelseaah,

My wedding is also in Nov. However, I have done nth except for pre-wed shoot. Both our parents have not meetup to discuss about GDL.

Am I considered late to do all this? Plus my parents kept asking me when my htb's parents coming to discuss the details but still no news from them.

I use wedivite for my wedding link- save the date thing. It's good but I suppose it's kinda hard to get confirmation also as its too early...

Plus I gotta travel +++ these few months so... Sigh

I also donno the GDL stuff man... I think my mum said must have gassy drink, wines, candies, etc etc...

Now the question is since I'm traveling +++, my colleagues leaving org ( so they asked me to pass them first the card, but it's weird to pass him and not the rest, again it will be too early to pass ppl the card), I'm in dilemma... Hahha


I supposed you still have some time for the card printing and etc since its NOV. just need to book their date cuz nov- holiday session...

haha.. true.. actually i tried to follow the timeline and checklist but not all can be met and also we have difficulties booking JP.

Some of them just simply ignore all emails or just say that they are not free. I did the save the date too for my friends and some close colleagues. Can't do it for relatives as my mom said that she wants my htb parents to come and meet to discuss on the GDL first. so gotta wait.. dunno when they are coming.
i tink for your colleagues leaving the org, maybe can just tell them to also save the date and when the date is closer, then meet them up or mail the invitation card to them.

If your relatives don't mind, why not get vouchers from bengawan? They have different voucher holders for baby birthdays and weddings. That's what we did too, and it's easier for relatives who are picky, so at least they can choose which cakes they want. If the outlet don't mind, I think some are flexible enough to let them redeem keuhs instead of strictly cakes.

My AD in Oct and I'll be diy-ing a save the date first to send to relatives and friends. Then from there when they confirm they can attend, I will send out the formal invites. Currently discussing designs for the invites. I will still need time to 'seal' the envelopes with hot wax. Most probably will print in July.

Hmm I intend to buy kiroi cheesecake to distribute =X I think as long as both sides of the parents are ok then it should be ok. For GDL, I was told need to bring the items in the traditional 3-tier chinese baskets. So if you need those too, it will be better to 'book' those baskets earlier. Some of the GDL shops which I went to say their supply for those baskets are limited.

My parents are easy. Tell him the Pin Jin and GDL is the same mostly. But most important actual wedding date need to have roasted pig.

GDL package the stores will teach how to do etc...

This is what I know of

If not just ask to have a dinner together with both parties parents.

My parents and in-laws didnt really discuss. They only met up and chit chat. The details were settled by my hub and me, we went to ask our parents individually.
If both side are okay with what you have discussed/planned I think not necessary to meet up. For me, I feel safer in case of any heated argument. Argue with SO is okay.

Ladies, my AD in 3rd week Oct. As I have church wedding & dinner on same day, there are lots more thgs to settle. So I wrote to my hotel co-ordinator for timeline 2 weeks ago about invitation card, favours, food tasting etc. I got the vendor's contact for cards & managed to complete selection over last weekend. I requested food tasting to be in Jul thou usu is 2 mths b4 AD. Some ppel aviod ghost mth to do all these activities. Really depends. For me, I just wana to start the ball rolling early if possible.

As for GDL, usu its 2 weeks b4 AD but I made a request to groom side to do it earlier, hopefully a mth b4 AD.

1) You can get the cards from the hotel anytime. But u need to have the comfirmed tables. Cos it will determined the no. of cards you will get. But probably you can haggle for more. The vendor price are usually not the best, you can always go to other printing shops.
2) GDL often is given by the geomancer. If you did not engage one, you can choose an auspicious day 1-3 weeks before actual day. As for pinjin, discuss early, cos you need to source for the GDL cake as well. Are both of you the only child/first child to get married? Maybe can try hint hint. But, I think shld be able to talk this kind of thing freely to your htb bah.
