Hi everyone!

Congrats to all the BTB!!
I have just 2 weeks to my big day!!
Since the current thread is about cards, I would recommend that you try Parvathi Printers at 33A Jln Trus in JB. They are 30-60 cents (in Ringgit) cheaper than the JB printers just at the temple for the same designs. If anyone wants their contact, do PM. :)

Hi littlered..!
Congrats for ur big day!!
Enjoy every moments..
I just printed my cards at K-S maniam Printers at Masai JB. Also same 60cents.
Also bought my door gifts online from
Dicesry gifts..
Have a gd day all..(",)

Hi Spidy 23. I took the promotional package there before they increased their pricing :) My traditional wedding is held there this 19th Oct. The good thing is that SGCC is currently undergoing a major revamp. They are changing all the floors from parquet to marble and also changing all their carpeting in the ballrooms. Good news for us! I cant remember the max seating - it could be 500 but it depends on how many chairs you have per table. I will be expecting 400 or less so I will have about 40 tables. If you require more info, do PM me :)

Hi couples... this is my first thread here...but i have to give an honest advise on photography / video service in Singapore.

for my wedding, i had engaged the video man from Menaka's Bridal (ya, the so-called famous bridal in Singapore). the price was very reasonable. but service is otherwise. Photographer was good... took the pictures and sent it to us on the confirmed date. however as for their video man, he onli takes the video. The video was taken very badly and the quality was so low. his filming and positioning of the video camera during the procession is off. some instances showing only the body without the head. nowadays can get HD video, but his is so lousy quality. not worth it. even more bad news/review is coming below...

the video man onli takes video but does not do video-editing or enhancements. he passes the video to another guy who goes by the name of Jakir. his shop is at 144 Dunlop Street, V&V Music Centre. He rents a small portion of this music store and does editing there. (we did not know Jakir was doing the editing) My wedding was last year and the video was delivered about 3 months later. We discovered that no proper formatting was done and the editor used very low editing tools to do the video. worse is that, the video man and Jakir did not even consult us what music to be put into the video. they just chose what they think was right. we were very shocked by it and asked both of them to re-do the video. Jakir promised to do the re-editing accordingly but he kept pushing our meeting dates. he will confirm the appointment, but he will not turn up. even if you call him, he will not pick up the phone or reply SMSes. he is very unreliable. and he keeps telling that he has this problem or that problem and buy some time for himself. after chasing him for so long, i only got my songs edited and got my wedding video after 7 months from my wedding! this was very bad service. we even reached a stage where we did not want to do the re-editing and requested the cd back, but the video man and Jakir was rude and also avoided my calls. Jakir is not a professional and does not keep his words. his constantly pushes deadlines and is not trustworthy. the video man does not even bother to help us. he is also truly unprofessional in his services.

Menaka bridal services was also notified and she tried to push it away too saying that we should deal with the video man and editor. However note that she still engages the same video man for her services. this is a very unprofessional behaviour of such a popular agency.

i sincerely regret taking Menaka Bridal for my video. please do take care when you deal with this company and also enquire more about their video man and how/who is doing the editing. make sure you know what to ask for and be firm. my advise, avoid Menaka when it comes for photo / video services. there are other better guys out there who will provide a professional service for you.

i hope you will not get the same treatment that i received.

I totally agree with the above post as I had a similar detailed experience with the video man and Menaka Bridal Services.

We hope you will not get the same treatment that we received.

Hi rajni thank you for your reply.. yup I tried calling them(SCC) but no one replied so I yet to follow up...I guess I got to reduce my no of pax... hahaa it is close to 700.. but I heard the ballroom is very nice... how are the packages? Is it per head? What is included in their package? Appreciate your reply..thank u ;)

Hello All

I'm new to this & am glad to find this active thread. I hope everyone's wedding plans are going smoothly!

May I check if any of you have done the traditional fire ceremony before (like a days before) the actual solemnization?

Hi guys! Hope everyone's planning is going on smoothly! And welcome new BTBs!! :)

Can I check if anyone is omitting the tamil version in the wedding cards? Is it necessary - Im just wondering if the priest will need to read from the card during the wedding! Im ordering my cards from India so I dont think they have the standard tamil wordings we use here? *confused*

Also, caterers wise - Komalas or Komala Vilas? Thoughts?

Hi all :)
Welcome anuj to the forum and congrats on being a BTB. Personally I have seen it done before many times but I think you will need to do a poll here to find out from others.

@Sumi: Its been a long time and you reappeared...hahah...Sorry cant help you with the card :P Both the wedding card inserts are written in English. Cant wait to get it in August!!!

Hi BTBs! So excited to find this platform for wedding research. Can you ladies share with me the process of South Indian wedding? I'm the first in my family to get married after along time! And im really kinda confused on what to do. I see that most of you have chosen to combine your ceremonies. My mom is telling me that after the families meet, the 'nichayathartham' or engagement will take place first. How did u girls plan out the rituals & ceremonies? Please share with me. Its very exciting isnt it? :)

@Rajni: Hahha yeah am so busy with work!! Sigh I cant wait to get mine sorted! Only have 5 mths left! Gulps

@hyperballad: Congratulations and welcome! I think it all depends on how many people you plan on having for each event and how big you want each event to be! I combined my engagement and ROM together coz we just had too many ppl on both sides to do the engagement at home. But usually engagements are held at the girl's place. For the engagement, we had a priest from a temple to conduct the rites and both sets of parents will need to sign on some paper (I dont even know what this is for!) and then they will exchange platters and tadahhhh..you are engaged!

After that, you can have your ROM separately or combine it with your traditional wedding. Ive seen some couples have the ROM ceremony right after the traditional wedding. You just need to invite the JOP to the venue.

:)

Hi all brides..!
Sumi- both komala's n komala villas are different.
Better to put the standard Tamil version on ur card.

Hyperballad - mine was followed traditionally.
1stly nichiyam (betrothal ceremony)
Less then 30 pax were invited to my hse.
2ndly parasam (engagement) cum ROM
Did a grand one at Spans JOM
250 pax were invited.
Parasam was held 1st. Ayer was hired. If u've chosen the auspicious date for ur wedding, then He will write the date/time of the wedding. An announcement of both bride n grooms details will be written too. Only the Mamas (uncles) will sign the doc.
This is the doc needed to be given to the temple/Ayer to conduct ur traditional wedding. Also needed to print ur wedding invitation card.
N yes both sides will exchange the thambalams..
After that ceremony I continued with my soleminisation..

Lastly 5th/7th day before ur wedding, nalangu will b done 4 the bride at home.. only close married aunties will conduct it.
3rd day b4 wedding..
bangle ceremony will b held at the brides house also. Can have henna party too.
Eve of wedding, nalangu will b done for groom.. Thali prayers will b done also after the nalangu.
That's it!
Finally dhoom dhoom dhoom..!
Aft 3rd or 5th day gotta Do thali Piriyal at brides Hse. Inserting the thali n other small gold items into a gold chain or the same yellow string..
*every occasions gotta ask auspicious date/time.
If u have any queries, feel free to PM me.
Take care!

@sumisweet Thank u! Fantastic that u've managed to combine both ceremonies! I think I need to come up with the guest list asap! :) Whoever thought of combining events is brilliant! I remember in the 90s when mom used to drag me to wedding events, the ceremonies used to be a series of events & honestly its quite tedious & expensive!

@amurax Thanks so much for the info dear! Just what i wanted to know. :) Now i have a clearer idea of what to anticipate. Good luck with your preparations too!

Anyone knows a good app for wedding planning? :)

Hiii everyone..... is there any place you guys can recommend for about 700 pax that allows outside caterers. .. Im having a hard time finding a place for e past 1 mth. .. yesterday went down to recee Fu sing, Chinese Chamber & FooCow. .the location seems inconvenient ; ( do let me know if u guys know of any places.. It is for my reception. .. thx :)

Hi everyone... Happy to find a link for Indian BTBs... I'm Reena, having my ROM/Engagement this Dec & the Wedding between May & June 2014...

Its quite exciting & nerve breaking ti realize the day is coming soon... Can anyone recommend a good venue for at least 200-250 pax for the ROM/Engagement?

Reena08: Welcome!! Wow December is soon! Hmm there are lotsa venues to consider depending on your budget. You can opt for hotels or function spaces like Grassroots Club, Royal Palm @ Spore Flyer, and all the country clubs like SGCC, SCC etc.

Do let us know if you need more info!

Hi Sumisweet, thank you for the wishes... The venues are difficult to get, probably becoz many are wanting to tie the knot year-end. I managed to get the date I wanted with Raffles Country Club...

All BTBs, anyone has tried the RCC for their function? Please do share your experiences...

There's alot more things to be done, like PG/VG and of coz MUA... Any recommendations for these?

Reena08: Great news then! RCC is the one in Tuas yes? You get to come in on a yacht! How cool :) Ive seen several weddings where they have held the ROM outdoors and the dinner in the ballroom.. Something to consider! As for MUA, ive personally used Harni Ananthy and Sungstar, both are good! Go for trials to see who you are more comfortable with :) PG and VG, there are plenty and are dependent on your budget.

As for my updates..Ive finally confirmed my temple caterers (Khomala's!), confirmed my very pretty invites :) and more or less settled the deco for both events. Now I just have to come up with a reception programme with my bridal party.. Phew 137 days to go!

Hi 2014 BTB:) Was wondering if there will be any takers for my wedding sari lengha? Bought it at style mart in Singapore (*modern contemporary look and its designed by kavitha thulisdas). I would like to sell it second hand after my wedding. Please PM me if you are interested. I will show you proof of purchase (*bought Aug 2013) and am looking at selling it below $800. So do PM me your interest. It looks something like this but this is NOT the picture, I was inspired by this picture. This picture belongs to the designer Rakesh Agrawal. I will only show you the actual picture upon request. Thankiu ;)

And Reena, for PG, try Keshav from Shift Photography. He is quite good, fun and spontaneous. Quite nice to work with. =)

So far, I have only secured, Ananthy, Hotel, Photography and Videography..

Kayal

Kayal: Yes! There are so many 'nice to have' things that you will want! :) Hmmm I think you have the bulk of it down. Rest includes Decor, giveaways, Photoshoot if you wanna do that, Alcohol if you are serving that, rings, outfits etc.

Reena08: Yes, Keshav! He was my PG for my pre ROM shoot and my ROM+engagement :) I loved all his shots! :) Videographer - I used Beyond Pictures and loved their video!

Hi Ladies. I'm three months away from my wedding... heee.... i need some recommendation on licenses solmenizer thou there is a list out in the website. Don't have to be indian... any race will do... Jus require someone who is flexible...

And also a freelance photographer for home fucntions, ( thali padayal and bangle cermony). Please feel free to share..:)

Hi Lady Luck 85, Try Dr Jasbhir Singh. He is awesome. Very detailed. He ensures that he meets up with the couple before hand, and speaks to you both about how to keep your marriage happy.. and its like very nice listening to him. He is very experienced and fun. He explains the reason behind exchanging rings, and gets the crowd during the solemnization.

I had her :) Just a recommendation. I think she is an Asst Director with MSF. Quite a nice lady, met up with us and even treated us lunch at Tanglin Country Club.

Oh wow! That sounds like a good deal. I have seen their work. Really awesome :) I am thinking of engaging them too! Anyway I am pretty much concerned about my MUA. What are her charges btw? I have seen a few MUA's work around. I was advised to go for a trials with a few MUA before coming to a decision. Did you try other MUA?

My big day will be in 2014 , end of December. still waiting for the date !

You still got more than a year to source. Happy planning. I didn't go for any makeup trial. I just choosed ananthy base on recommendation . i trust her work and i think she will do a brillant job. But she slightly pricey compared to the other MUA. she charged me $600 for 2 changes. This charges is for 2013. not sure about necxt year.

Hi all BTBs, hope you're all doing well... It's definitely hard managing work & planning the "big day"... :)
