Raj: thanks, yup saw the temple. Very helpful

Btw does anyone have any good hotel to recommend with Indian buffet for wedding dinner?

Heartz: Hmm hotels..Depends on your budget. Holiday Inn City Centre is a popular choice with Indians coz they have a North Indian kitchen.

Yikes..This countdown widget on my phone is freaking me out! 108 days left!

This week is crucial - Need to alter my evening gown and give my lengha+engagement saree blouses for stitching, finalise my deco, catering+bar setup and wait for my invitations to arrive!

Phew! Speaking of evening gowns, I got mine stitched from Lightinthebox.com and it arrived SO fast and it is so pretty! You can even give your own measurements for a custom fit for an additional 20 bucks or so. Am so getting my bridesmaids dresses from there as well!

How has your week been?

Hey Sumi !!! All been well I hv been busy with appointments
Nice to see all the brides getting ready for their special day !!!! So exciting all the best to u !!!!

Heloo!!

I am desperately looking for a location for my traditional wedding..Any recommendations? No temples pls.. thank you!!

Hi Kayal, you can try serangoon gardens country club, khalsa etc. Those are some places that let you have an open fire in their premises. I think some hotels are also open to that like Shangri-La, Fa

Hi BTBs!

What a productive wedding weekend I had! Bought our wedding bands, gave my outfits for stitching, finally managed to book our temple date (had to wait for the panjakam to arrive), settled the storyboard for our videos and went through the pre ROM photoshoot locations with our photographer!

Phew! This weekend we need to head over to JB to settle our bridal photoshoot. We are 90% confirmed to sign with Venus unless they are really horrible to us in person! Anyone with reviews for Venus?

Sumi alot of my brides have head down to venus and they were mentioning that they all had happy service with them and they do indian skin very well

Hi All,
Any recommendations on Photographers & videographers? budget:$1500 for both services.
Any review on KM Wedding's photographers & videographers?

And any recommendations for wedding car rentals?

Hi there ammukutty, you might wanna try Cino photography. I do understand that his very basic packages for both VG and PG is $1800. He quoted me that just last week but we had to upscale our package as we require live feeds and prints and other stuff.

Hi all!

We might be going to India for wedding shopping in March! Yay! Anyone been before and knows of must go to shops in both Delhi and Chennai?

Hey Sumi Yup ur right recently my bride bought a lengha from chennai too her reception was held last week at the Village Hotel it costs close to SGD 1100 but the same would have cost in SG abt 3K i guess cause its fully studded and beautifully designed ill get the name of the boutique from her and update k ;)...

Seemren: Would be so helpful if you could let me know which shops she went to for lengha shopping! Also where would you recommend for the bridal sets?

Hey babes i checked with her and she has purchased it from a bridal boutique called Moksha.. as for the bridal sets im not too sure of the names of the places as i went to random shops purchased at T NAGAR : Ranganathan Street ;)

Hi fellow BTBs!

I just filed for my notice for marriage! oooo things are getting real!
happy.gif

Also just settled my photographer for my Dec events - Will be working with Ray Gan
happy.gif

And FINALLY managed to make payment to the temple for the traditional wedding. Phew! Also..When did non vegetarian catering become so expensive! I wanted to faint when I saw the packages!

Hope you are all hanging in there!

Sumi: Helllooooooo.......It was so quiet in here..haha..Awesome! Everything is coming into place already
happy.gif
I am also trying to settle as much as possible even tho my wedding is in Oct.

Venue: SGCC
PG/VG: Cino photography (I opted for live prints and feeds)
Bridal needs/costumes: Saheli
Priest: Booked - Paid $250 for admin fees (*didn't know that admin fees existed...lol)
Food: Haven't decided yet
Card: Haven't decided yet
Wedding Favors: Haven't decided yet
Wedding Cake: Haven't decided yet
Mehendi: Haven't decided yet

Tell me about vegetarian food...prices are quite steep, however I must say that during my engagement, I ordered food from Ammani Catering. My friends and family loved it
happy.gif
I tried the food and I loved it too. The brinjal pachdai was awesome!!! - It was my first time trying it...haha..so swaku..

BTW Sumi, any good recommendations for Henna. I have been sourcing around for prices and I (*my personal opinion) found them to be exorbitant. Sigh!!!

Happy Planning Brides to be!

Raj: Its never too early to plan and settle everything! Ooo I shall reach out to Ammani Catering though i think my in laws are only looking at 'brand' names like Anandha Bhavan etc. But im open to suggestions!

Hmmm henna wise, i was gonna go with SJ Henna but I believe she is no longer providing henna services due to health reasons! I might get a friend to do it but need to confirm. But yes, henna is ridiculously expensive these days! I love the henna done by this Malay girl though..Syra Skins. You should have a look!

Sumi, I would strongly recommend Ammani catering only coz the food was good and affordable. Am not too sure if they allow you to try but I remember my vegetarian food was finished up. I also had lots of request to pack the brinjal pachdai - its sweet and sour, awesome
happy.gif
I will be gg back to them for my mehendi and haldi ceremony. I think its a husband and wife team and they were super nice also. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ammani-Catering-Pte-Ltd/175970922451085?sk=info#!/pages/Ammani-Catering-Pte-Ltd/175970922451085

I hope I dont sound like I am trying to hard sell them but honestly, I think their food puts Anandhan Bhavan and other brand names to shame...See if you can get some food tasting done
happy.gif

Hey Guys!!!! hope all is well .... Rajni u are right have tried their food on 3 of my brides bridal occasions and their food was really so tasty with a home cooked feel

Hi ladies. Im new to this forum. Good to see that you are sharing some great ideas here. Im a Nov Bride. Im looking for some rental lenga for my photoshoot.. any idea where?

Hi ladyluck85: You will really need to do some research within this area.
So far the common names that we know of are:

1. Saheli Bridal
2. Fashion Mirchi (*I heard that they do rental)

Unfortunately, rental within this area is limited. So unless it is an online company, you would need to physically go down to each shop and enquire if they do any rental.
Hope this helps

Happy Planning!!

hi sumi - thanks for the suggestion. I saw the menu for holiday inn. Looks good. M still sourcing out for more.

Btw for traditional temple wedding it is crucial to book the temple venue way earlier in advance. What's a rough time frame? 6 months in advance?

Hi babes yes it's very crucial to book in advance
Especially for more sort after temples like tank rd my brides hv already booked me for Bridals for this year June n dec .. Especially wen looking for bridal avenues booking earlier is always safer
happy.gif

Ahh i see.Thanks!
It's good to plan early too. So i don't have to panic at the last min.

Btw Seemren, do you do makeup trials? I have extremely sensitive skin and I am afraid that this might be an issue if I don't get the right makeup.

Yup babes I do though I have brides who don't opt for trials it important to do trials so ur preferred look on ur wedded days can be discussed upon I usually use a bridal Ampoule before the whole bridal application as I find it a very very important step that some muas skip for example not all indian trad wedding hv second Saree changes so it helps prep skin especially sensitive skin for Mkup application n keeps mkup lasting for 7-8 hrs looking refreshed n gives a more flawless application n appearance too

Heartz: Hi heartz
happy.gif
I attended my cousins wedding reception at Holiday Inn in Feb 2013 and I pretty much enjoyed it, however I must say that there were 2 pillars blocking some tables. The good news is that, there were projector screens for those who were seated near the pillars. To sweeten the deal, all of us were presented with a one for one buffet lunch or dinner voucher at Holiday Inn.

As for traditional events hosted within the temple compound, it would be good for you to adopt a conservative time frame of at least 7-8 months prior to the actual event. I booked mine a year ahead (*Singaporean syndrome...heee)

Happy Planning

Heartz: Yes do book your temple dates way in advance! I booked mine more than a year in advance but only managed to confirm and make payment last month coz of the release of the new panjaagam (?). Esp for those popular temples and months like Nov-Dec.

I have 68 days to go to my engagement+ROM! Yikes! Going for my local photoshoot this weekend and still have lil details which are not tied up. (As I was typing this, i just remembered i need to sign off on my videographer's contract for the Dec events!)

Have a great week ahead ladies!

Sumi: OMG only 68 days!!! So fastttt, seemed like yesterday that you were only planning it...All the best tho!

I am quite excited. I will be going down to view cards and wedding favours...

sumi: wow 68 days! it will come in no time.
raj : nice stuff. ya pilars are distracting. been to a few chinese friends weddings where pillars got in the way. but usually those hotels with pillar-less ballroom tend to cost slightly more.

wah i am also facing the kiasu syndrome. for my traditional i am planning for next year dec. but i havent decided which temple and all. we havent went to temple to check out possible dates. not sure if its too early to do so.

its abit confusing right now. its a mixed marriage. m north and my other half is south. I myself am mixed. half punjabi half marathi. i guess i got lotsa researching to do to find out more about the different customs and procedures.

Heartz: Welcome to the club

I am North Indian by the way. My other half is south too!! Yippe..

I guess I am really blessed. My partner and his family will be following our traditions and customs. We will be doing the whole ceremony the northern way. Initially, we wanted to host it at Laxmi Narayan but felt that it was too impersonal due to the crowd size, so we are doing it at a country club instead. Great news is that the country club does not have any pillars.

I guess it would be good to sit down with your partner and really decide what traditions/rituals you would like to keep or follow thru during the wedding. Just to share with you, I wont be using the thali necklace, I will be using the manglasutra instead and we both agreed on this. Also, there are smaller rituals like the day before and after the wedding commonly known as Arya Samaj (*again a north indian tradition). The day before the wedding, a prayer session will be held in my house whereas in his house, there will not be any official ceremony.

I agree with you, it can be confusing and perplexing at times, with so many parties to please but at the same time it serves as an insightful journey into the culture.

PS: BTW I went thru a lot of trouble finding a bilingual priest who can speak Hindi and Tamil and I finally found him...Yipee again...lol...

Happy Planning my dear

Raj and Heartz: Yeah time is going by so fast!! So worried im forgetting something major! Haha..Btw, Im malayalee and my HTB is north+south so we have a whole lotta different things going on eg: oiling ceremony for boy's side etc. Also, the thali/mangalsutra debate..But its fun to learn about each other's culture and traditions!

I cant wait to head to India in a mth!! Im banking on finding accessories for all my outfits there as well as the all important wedding sari!
