Dreaming of the Korean-inspired wedding aesthetic? These 3 Korean Stars show us how it’s done

For those eyeing the Korean-inspired wedding aesthetic, we reveal the latest trend blossoming in the ceremonies of these three notable Korean entertainment figures.

The compelling chokehold that Korean culture has on collective society is undeniable. From falling head-over-heels for one’s first Korean-pop idol and drawing fashion inspiration from the unending releases of binge-worthy K-dramas, to jumping onboard the latest in K-beauty trends and drooling as hwachae took over ForYouPages, the rise of the Hallyu wave thrives and endures. Another up-and-coming domain in the alluring sphere of K-everything? The Korean-inspired wedding aesthetic.

When it comes to style inspo, there’s an abundance that this subculture has to offer—gowns and make-up fit for the beauty-driven bride, decor and cake designs to impress the crowd on the big day, photography mood boards so one’s hired vendor understands the assignment—you name it. And what better way to glean such insights, than to reference recent weddings of famed Korean personalities themselves?

Below, we examine the weddings of three prominent Korean figures in the entertainment industry—all of which occurred in the last week—for couples-to-be who have their hearts set on a Korean-inspired wedding aesthetic.

Floral fantasy is the common theme that ran through the weddings of second-gen K-pop group Miss A’s Min, world-famous dancer and choreographer Mina Myoung, as well as beauty and lifestyle YouTuber Heejoo. Botanical elements are as elegantly vibrant as they are versatile, providing an immaculate ambience that complemented all three brides with finesse.

Min’s whimsical garden wedding was held at Bonelli Garden in Korea, where she walked down an aisle entirely covered in fresh flower petals, with lush, pastel blooms of yellow, pink, blue and lilac on either side. Tablescapes were not spared of the beauty of Mother Nature either, the whole outdoor set-up exuding untamed yet ethereal charm by both day and night.

Though Mina and Heejoo both opted for indoor weddings at Maison d’Italie instead, the florals were no less in intensity. Against the clean, white minimalist layout of the building lay large clusters of purple, pink and cream flowers that not only lined the aisle, but also formed the wedding arch and backdrop. A key advantage to holding a floral wedding indoors, though? The delicate floral vines that draped mesmerizingly from the ceiling of the main hall.

Another decor element that blended delightfully well with the florals in all three weddings were nature’s candy, known to us as fruits. The former K-pop idol’s big event saw a seating chart in the chic form of a fruit display, featuring luscious cherries, peaches, oranges, lemons and tomatoes. Simple, yet sophisticated. Bountiful bunches of grapes added a tart touch to her champagne glass tower as well.

Meanwhile, citrus fruits were artfully arranged around the reception area of both Mina and Heejoo’s ceremonies, whether purposefully overflowing out of decorative glass cups or scattered intentionally across the floor.

Despite sharing the same decor theme, it’s apparent that all three brides still made standout appearances in line with their distinct personalities. Channeling their individual styles—through the choice of gowns to hair and make-up styling—was hardly an issue with this theme. Who would’ve thought that flowers could play such multifaceted roles, whether classic and elegant in Min’s wedding, fun and flamboyant in Mina’s or even cater to the modern, edgy Heejoo? Should one not be fully convinced by, or fear that the Korean-inspired wedding aesthetic would be far too ‘mainstream’, let this be the most compelling reason to hop aboard the alluring, florid fad.

Keeping it grand yet graceful, Min’s timeless gown with a full ball skirt and extensive veil were adorned with dainty, floral lace patterns throughout.

Meanwhile, the larger, three-dimensional nature-inspired sequin designs on Mina’s second open-back dress made the outfit as sparkly as her demeanour, and matching flower-shaped hair clips were worn with her first formal gown to match.

In Heejoo’s case, flowers were worn at the sides of her slicked-back low bun—a popular hairstyle of late—adding slight femininity to the boldness of her bleached crown and brows. The Internet personality switched between two gown styles, the former being a sleek, minimalist gown with a corset bodice, while the latter comprised a frilly skirt of multiple ruffly tiers—both of which emanated up-to-the-minute, contemporary style.

Out of the many forms the Korean-inspired wedding aesthetic takes on, hyper-romantic florals are evidently a budding theme, with many a good reason for future brides to take inspiration from.
