Annabelle and Warren’s Lively and Heartfelt Wedding at Min Jiang at Dempsey

Annabelle and Warren celebrated their union in a lively and heartfelt celebration at Min Jiang at Dempsey.

Annabelle Lim, 33, Underwriter, met the love of her life, Warren Rixon, 36, Banker, through work. When they were planning their wedding, they knew that a traditional hotel wedding was not for them. In their search for more intimate wedding venues, they fell in love with the elegance and timelessness of Min Jiang at Dempsey, where they celebrated their love surrounded by their nearest and dearest.

What is it about your partner that you love the most?

Annabelle: Warren is so unbelievably fun and full of life. Being around him is pure joy – we’re always laughing, and even the smallest moments feel special. He gets me in a way that’s hard to put into words, sometimes it feels like he knows me even better than I know myself. He has the biggest heart. He’s endlessly generous and thoughtful, always showing up for the people he cares about without hesitation. On top of all that, he’s brilliant! Truly one of the smartest people I’ve ever known. He’s genuinely one-of-kind and I feel immensely lucky to get to do life with him.

What was the moment that made you realise that he was the one for you?

It wasn’t necessarily one big moment but more like countless little ones – the small gestures, everyday kindness and acts of service that reiterated something I’d known since the early days of us: that this was someone I’d go to the ends of the earth for.

Tell us about your wedding. Where was your wedding venue and why did you choose it as the place to wed?

We had our wedding dinner at Min Jiang at Dempsey. We knew from the very beginning that a traditional hotel ballroom just wasn’t our vibe, so our search was focused on more intimate restaurants that felt special but still spacious enough for 100 people. Min Jiang at Dempsey had such an elegant and timeless charm about it – the moment we saw it, we just knew it was the right venue for us.

Theme wise, we didn’t have a specific one in my mind. We just knew we wanted the day to be fun and full of colour.

What was your wedding day like?

By the time our Singapore wedding dinner rolled around, we were honestly a little exhausted – wedding planning was starting to feel like a full time job! We had just come off a 3-day wedding weekend in Margaret River the week before, so in some ways, that actually helped take some of the pressure off our Singapore wedding. I’m sure there were little hiccups here and there, but none of that stands out in my memory when I think back on the day. What I do remember is how special it all felt – so much laughter, so many yam sengs, dozens of heartfelt speeches (including one in Mandarin by my Australian husband that definitely earned him major son-in-law points!), incredible food and a huge, huge outpouring of love.

What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?

All of our friends and family had really lovely things to say about the night. Everyone genuinely seemed to have a great time. We received lots of compliments on the food, and our guests appreciated the fantastic service by the staff at Min Jiang. One thing that stood out to a lot of people was the room layout – it encouraged guests to get up, mingle and move around, so it didn’t feel like a typical sit-down dinner. People told us they loved being able to chat with different groups throughout the evening, which made the night feel even more lively and connected.

Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?

My brother and sister were the emcees for both our Australia and Singapore weddings (that alone was one of the most memorable and meaningful moments of the entire wedding celebration!), but during the Singapore wedding dinner, they spontaneously invited some guests to stand up and share a favourite memory, piece of advice or just a few words about the bride and groom. It was such a special surprise and so touching to hear such wonderfully kind and heartfelt things from our nearest and dearest. Because everyone was put on the spot, we got some hilariously unexpected answers that had everyone in the room laughing! It was genuinely the most perfect blend of laughter and love and it made the night truly unforgettable for us.

What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?

To remember that it’s supposed to be fun!! It’s so easy to get caught up in the details and decisions and lose sight of the big picture: that you’re getting to marry your best friend in the whole world and start the biggest adventure of your life with them. There’s this huge amount of pressure for your wedding day to be the best and most perfect day of your life, but ultimately, it’s just a day. Try to enjoy the planning process (no matter how stressful or overwhelming it might feel!), try not to worry too much about the little things that may or may not go wrong, and always remember that the wedding is only the beginning of everything beautiful that’s ahead.
