Schvelle and Daniel’s Classic and Minimalist Wedding at Artemis Grill & Sky Bar

After years of being in a long distance relationship, Schvelle and Daniel tied the knot in an elegant and minimalist wedding at Artemis Grill & Sky Bar.
It may not have been love at first sight for Schvelle and Daniel, but their love was definitely written in the stars. Love blossomed after spending time with each other, their similarities and differences drawing them closer, and eventually, Schvelle and Daniel found themselves in a long distance relationship. After pulling off a surprise proposal in Tasmania, the pair of lovebirds planned an intimate wedding at Artemis Grill & Sky Bar, a restaurant they fell in love with at first sight, with their family and friends in attendance.
How did the two of you meet?
Schvelle: Daniel was friends with my brother who was working in the United States at that time. We met when I visited my brother in the United States with my family and Daniel tagged along for our family trip.
What drew you to each other?
Daniel: It wasn’t love at first sight, knowing that we would be parting ways after the trip. It was purely just a friendship at that time. It was only after I returned to Singapore for a short period of time did we start texting more and hanging out. I was drawn to her spontaneous and adventurous personality, and how she always knew how to find the fun and see the good in every circumstance.
Schvelle: I was drawn to his level of maturity and how we had similar beliefs and values.
What is it about your partner that you love the most?
Schvelle: He reads a lot – not really books, but general knowledge. He is able to tell you quirky things like how the sewage system works, or describe each country’s public transport network and why it was designed in that way. And although he is mature, he also has this kid-ish side of him that makes me laugh!
Daniel: Schvelle is playful and knows how to have fun. She always finds cool stuff to do and pushes me out of my comfort zone.
What was the moment that made you realise that he/she was the one for you?
Schvelle: When I realised that my secret desire of starting life and living overseas is coming to true!
Daniel: When we had a big fight but we found it so easy to make up and felt even closer to each other. I knew that we would always stay together no matter what we went through.
Tell us about the proposal. Daniel, how did you go about planning it?
Daniel: The biggest challenge was that we were in an long distance relationship, so it would be hard to meet up (especially as a surprise). I asked Schvelle’s parents for their blessing to marry her over FaceTime and coordinated the proposal with her parents and her brother. Her parents had brought her to Tasmania, Australia for a trip and told Schvelle that her brother would be coming along with his wife. I showed up with her brother and proposed to her at this beautiful, isolated beach.
Schvelle, did you know a proposal was coming before it happened, or were you taken completely by surprise?
Schvelle: Due to the nature of our long distance relationship, we could only meet a few times in the year. We did discuss marriage and how I did want to be engaged before I came back to Singapore from Melbourne (I was doing my Masters there). So, I was not sure when exactly it would happen, but I knew it would be the next time we met (at that point, there was no plan to meet until the end of the year)
Tell us about your wedding. Did you have a wedding theme?
Both: We chose Artemis Grill & Sky Bar for our wedding venue. We did not really want to have a hotel banquet, and we also wanted something difference from the usual Chinese food. We went to a few hotels though, but eventually ended up with Artemis Grill & Sky Bar due to their customisable food menu and amazing views. When we stepped into the restaurant, we knew that was the venue that we wanted to get married at!
We did want it to be abit “angmoh” style, so we went with a more classy and minimalist look. My gown was custom made at The Gown Connoisseur and we designed it to have a mixed look between vintage and classy.
Our flower theme was baby blue, peaches and whites. We DIY-ed all of our decorations, such as using a cricut machine for the linen cloth for our welcome signage as well as the flower arrangements that we used for the stage. I had a reliable team of friends that helped with decor setup, so I just prepared all the items, briefed them where to place it at and trusted them! For the tables, we wanted it to feel extra cosy, especially in the night, so we bought LED candles.
Take us back to your wedding day: What was the day like and how were you feeling?
Daniel: The day went by really quick, we were both feeling really excited for our friends and family to witness our union. We started with a Peranakan themed tea ceremony for our immediate family at Schvelle’s house. Then, we headed to PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering to get ready for the night. Though we were really nervous just before the ceremony started, our solemniser came into the bridal room to have a chat with us and helped us calm down! Once dinner started, we took our seats and let the emcees run the programme. We were both feeling relaxed.
What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?
Both: They all said that the wedding was really cosy and fun, just what we were after!
Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Daniel: It would be the surprise video that Schvelle created right before her walk in.
Schvelle: For me, the most memorable moment would definitely be seeing Daniel cry when he watched the surprise video I made.
What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?
Both: We regretted not hiring a videographer! So, maybe that would be a non-negotiable if we could re-live the day! Other than that, enjoy the wedding, don’t stress over it, hold the programme or your plan loosely, and let the day go by!
