Lena and Yonglong’s Vibrant and Colourful Wedding at Artemis Grill & Sky Bar
Lena and Yonglong tied the knot in a beautiful celebration surrounded by bright pops of colour that added to the jubilance of the occasion.
Lena, 30, Designer, and Yonglong, 29, Designer, first met at The Glasgow School of Art eight years ago when she unknowingly sat in his assigned seat. After their chance encounter, they were drawn to each other like bees to honey, and the rest, as they say, is history. The lovebirds wanted an intimate celebration with ample natural sunlight and a cosy ambience, and found the perfect venue in Artemis Grill & Sky Bar, where they tied the knot amidst colourful and vibrant blooms and celebrated with a jubilant luncheon.
Share with us your story. How did the two of you meet?
Both: We first crossed paths at The Glasgow School of Art in 2016. I did not attend the facilitation camp so they already had assigned seats in the class. Unaware of the sitting arrangement on the first day of school, I conveniently “stole” his seat and he still held me to that up to this day.
What drew you to each other?
Both: The ability to connect almost instantly, like two long-lost best friends. I always say that he’s like a worm in my stomach, who knows me inside out.
What is it about your partner that you love the most?
Lena: I love the way he can make me laugh effortlessly in any situation.
Yonglong: Everything – her silliness, her lovable charms, and her relentless pursuit to get the best deals.
What was the proposal like?
Lena: Well, I wanted him to propose anywhere else except Singapore but guess what?
Yonglong: Being unexpected was the key, and what’s more unexpected than doing it locally? It was under the guise of a Valentine’s Day celebration. The proposal was supposed to happen right before our dinner at Monti’s. However, a sudden downpour interrupted the moment when I was about to drop to one knee. With no other option, I postponed it to after dinner. Surprisingly, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the location looks even more breathtaking at night with fewer people around.
Tell us about your wedding. What was your planning journey like?
Both: We preferred an intimate celebration with our closest family and friends ,thus a wedding lunch seemed like the best idea. Hence, we looked out for a restaurant that has ample natural sunlight and a cosy ambience that fits within our budget. We decided on Artemis Grill & Sky because it offered the ideal combination of indoor and outdoor settings for our luncheon and solemnisation.
Was there a wedding theme?
Both: Our florist played a pivotal role in establishing our wedding’s color palette. After her guidance in selecting flowers that aligned with my vision, it actually set things in motion as it sparked the creation of our wedding theme and influenced the bridesmaids’ outfits. Given our backgrounds as graphic designers, we wanted to meticulously curate every detail and eventually opted for a ‘sticker-book’ design that seamlessly integrated elements from both of our passions and hobbies.
Take us back to your wedding day. What was the day like and how were you feeling?
Both: Although it was just a wedding lunch, our entire morning was packed to the brim. Fortunately, everything went according to plan, and we were especially relieved that the weather held up for our outdoor solemnisation as the weather forecast wasn’t looking that great in the morning.
What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?
Both: Other than their raves about the meal, they loved the entire theme of our wedding as it was a total reflection of our personalities.
Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Lena: It was definitely when my father walked me down the aisle and handed me over to my new husband. He was choking up in tears which intensified my own emotions, with my husband also tearing at the side.
Yonglong: Witnessing my nephews and niece strolling down the aisle as flower boys and girls, and then seeing my beautiful bride arriving at last really made me tear up.
What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?
Both: Take time out to savor your meal as we were too caught up running around entertaining guests that we regretted not being able to fully enjoy our steaks.
