Charlene and Colin’s Vibrant Wildflower Wedding at 1-Altitude Coast
10 years after they met, Charlene and Colin sealed the deal in a rooftop solemnisation and a lively celebration surrounded by their family and friends.
Charlene Ang, 29, Marketing Manager, and met Colin Tan, 30, Consultant, at a school camp in university. After discovering that they shared similar interests and a mutual connection, they started to spend more time with each other and love soon blossomed. After a successful surprise proposal in Greece, the lovebirds hosted their dream wedding at 1-Altitude Coast, where they said “I do” in a rooftop solemnisation and celebrated their newly-wedded status in a vibrant and fun-loving wedding at Sol & Ora.
What drew you to each other?
Both: In general, I guess we just had good vibes about each other? In all seriousness though, I think because we have similar interests (travelling and food!) and our principles are quite aligned, so it was truly really easy for us to open up to each other and talk about anything and everything like best friends, and over time we just fell truly, madly, deeply in love unknowingly.
What do you love most about each other?
Charlene: I love how easygoing, trustworthy and patient Colin is.
Colin: For me, I love that we share similar interests in hobbies like travelling and exploring new food places and cuisines.
What was your proposal like?
Charlene: It was everything I had imagined and more! Colin popped the question in a surprise proposal during our 2-week trip to Greece when the borders finally started opening up. I actually had an inkling that he would propose on the trip, but a week had passed and when nothing happened, I thought I assumed wrong. Little did I know, he had planned for it during our second leg of the trip when we visited Meteora. Fun fact: we actually visited the spot he eventually proposed at thrice in two days, but the view was so beautiful that I remained unsuspecting of his plans. Finally, he proposed during a 6:00 a.m. sunrise, and it was as if the sky knew, because of all the times we were there, that day that Colin popped the question had one of the most breathtaking sunrise we’d seen.
Tell us about your wedding. Where was your wedding venue and what was the day like?
Both: We did some research and made some site visits to a couple of shortlisted places initially, but the moment we saw 1-Altitude Coast, we knew it was the perfect venue for us, as we wanted a cosy and intimate restaurant setting, and an outdoor venue for our solemnisation. Plus, there were fireworks!
As for our wedding theme, we wanted wildflowers in lots of bright, vibrant pop of colours that feels fun-loving and light. To keep in theme, my bridesmaids were dressed in different vibrant colours (with matching coloured mini bouquets), while we kept it simple for Colin’s groomsmen and had them in classic black suits. For my bridal bouquet, we requested for a bunch of coloured wildflowers in the mix to stay in theme. We also had baby’s breath in our ring box to match our theme, and our floral backdrop for the solemnisation was heavily inspired by Pinterest.
Our wedding day passed by very quickly, but it was really fun celebrating our big day together and with our loved ones. Our family and friends had a lot of fun too! Our first look and solemnisation were definitely some of the most memorable moments of our wedding day.
What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?
Both: We would definitely suggest couples to start early and plan everything together. Planning your wedding should be a fun process!
