Zhilei and Shao Wei’s Blue and White Themed Wedding at 1-Altitude and Stellar
Zhilei and Shao Wei said “I do” at one of Singapore’s tallest buildings, surrounded by family and friends.
Zhilei and Shao Wei met at a running event where she was participating as a runner while he was there as a photographer. Later, they were connected on Facebook, and the rest is history. After a thoughtful and intimate proposal, the lovebirds tied the knot in a simple and elegant blue and white themed wedding where they said “I do” on the rooftop of 1-Altitude and celebrated in the elegant interiors of Stellar.
What drew you to each other?
Zhilei: Running was our common activity but I was also drawn to his calm and loving nature.
Shao Wei: She makes me feel comfortable being myself around her, and I like how I don’t need to hide anything in front of her.
What is it about your partner that you love the most?
Zhilei: I love that he’s very hardworking and kind.
Shao Wei: I love that she is driven to achieve the goals that she sets.
What was the proposal like?
Shao Wei: It was a simple proposal after a casual dinner, where I brought Zhilei to the place where I first took photos of her and popped the question.
Zhilei: I was touched by his thoughts of proposing to me at the place we first met!
Tell us about your wedding. Where was your wedding venue and why did you choose it as the place to wed?
We held our solemnisation at the rooftop of 1-Altitude followed by the reception at Stellar. COVID-19 kind of steered us to look at venues that were not of the typical hotel banquets, and we felt that a rooftop solemnisation at the tallest building in Singapore would be memorable. We also liked that there wasn’t a need to have a fixed number of person per table, so that made sitting arrangements easier.
Amanda Lee Weddings was the bridal boutique I got my gowns from, and I appreciated how patient and kind Pearlyn was. She listened and addressed any issues I had with the gowns and perfected it to fit my body. I love the end result.
Did you have a wedding theme?
Not exactly, though we had a blue and white color theme that we communicated to our planner assigned by 1-Group and our florist, Étoile Flowers.
Take us back to your wedding day. What was the day like and how were you feeling?
Initially, we were slightly behind schedule so we were quite anxious as we were worried that we could not commence our solemnisation on time. But, eventually everything turned out well, including the weather! (it didn’t rain, and it wasn’t too hot on the rooftop)
What did your family/friends have to say about your wedding day?
They felt that the wedding was more personal and everyone was more engaged, as we were able to spend some time at each table to have conversations with our family and friends.
Share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?
It was when Shao Wei’s father made a very touching speech that left both of us in tears, as we didn’t expect him to make such a long and touching speech. We believe everyone present that day felt the same emotions as we did.
What is one lesson you’ve learned from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?
It would definitely be, save money on the shoes and spend it on a good photographer and videographer! After all, these are the physical memories you’d be left with of your wedding day.
