Giselle and Sean’s Classic Wedding at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove
Giselle and Sean’s classic wedding at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove was brimming with gold and red florals in a celebration of their love.
Giselle Jia, 25, Product Manager, and Sean Mak, 27, Auditor, met when they were in university and got engaged in the “middle of nowhere” on a cruise. The couple tied the knot on 7 August 2021, with beautiful botanicals in a church wedding, and toasted their love with classic gold and red florals in W Singapore – Sentosa Cove.
How did you two meet?
We met during the Freshmen Orientation camp in Nanyang Technological University. We were allocated to the same hall and we happened to be each other’s partner during the camp. We wouldn’t have met each other otherwise as we were in different courses. After the camp ended, we were both chosen to represent our group in the hall pageant and that was when we grew closer to each other. Thinking back, there were many variables that resulted in us meeting, and the absence of any would have meant a very different outcome for us today. Having dated for six years, and been engaged for almost a year, it was the perfect time to tie the knot.
What do you love most about your partner?
Giselle: Everyone who knows Sean would know the answer to this. He is such a unique soul: kind, selfless, and compassionate. He is constantly trying his best to help everyone around him, with no hidden motives because that is just who he is, which is so rare to find these days. Character aside, he checks all my boxes physically too. He has got the ideal height, features, and most importantly, a beautiful smile.
Sean: The moment I saw Giselle, I was blown away by her beauty. I wouldn’t say it was love at first sight, but it was close. After getting to know her a lot more, I realised that she and I are both wildly different individuals. They say opposites attract and I couldn’t agree more. She is both driven and goal-oriented, which is the opposite of what I am. She makes me want to be a better person and I hope to be someone who deserves her.
What was the proposal like?
Giselle: Our proposal was supposed to happen in New York City during our US trip in April 2021. However, it was cancelled due to the pandemic. The actual proposal happened during our cruise to nowhere trip on the Royal Caribbean, so technically we got engaged in the middle of nowhere! We just wanted a simple and private proposal, away from Singapore. So, I guess everything turned out perfectly.
How did you plan your wedding?
Giselle: There are so many things to look out for when planning for a wedding and SingaporeBrides is the perfect one-stop site for wedding-related information and resources. We explored the different wedding themes, photography styles, and venues through this platform. We were planning our wedding with the ever-changing COVID-19 regulations at the back of our minds. We were always checking for the latest updates in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Thankfully, our wedding was not affected by any last-minute changes in the measures. The whole wedding went on as planned, without many hiccups or last minute changes.
What was your wedding theme?
For our church wedding, the theme was “green botanicals”. We envisioned a clean, minimalist, and elegant church wedding for our solemnisation. The decorations were all carefully selected, and we worked around with a colour theme of only greens and whites. Our church pews, floral arches, and photo album table turned out to be everything I had envisioned.
For our dinner banquet, we wanted to spice it up a little, so we went with a whimsical theme with burgundy and gold as the colour scheme. I felt that the ballroom in W Singapore was perfect for this theme. For floral decorations, we went with red roses and champagne flowers to bring the theme to life. Everything turned out to be so magical and it was a perfect night for us as we celebrated our marriage with our loved ones.
We are so glad to have chosen Z Wedding as our wedding vendor; it was a breeze working with them. The team was very helpful and professional throughout. They exceeded our expectations in every aspect—the gowns, the makeup, the photography. We received so many compliments on the gowns, the hair and makeup, and both the photography and videography were all very well done.
What was your wedding day like?
Giselle: It was easily the best day of our lives. If I could, I would want to relive that day all over again! It was a dream to see my Pinterest dream wedding come true. I feel that what matters most is the details, so I made sure to take care of every small detail of the wedding day so that our guests could feel our sincerity. Ultimately, we wanted our wedding to be memorable not just for the two of us, but for all our guests as well! We started the day at 5 a.m. and ended everything at about 12 a.m. Everything passed by so quickly, and we are so thankful that everything went as planned or even better. Our vendors and helpers were also a great help and we wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without them.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Giselle: The most memorable part for me was definitely walking down the aisle with my parents during our church wedding. Everyone I love and care for was there to witness this moment and it was such a significant moment not just for me but for my parents too. To be honest, I was a little nervous as I was walking down the aisle but at the same time, I enjoyed that moment so much and I will keep that moment close to my heart forever.
Sean: The whole wedding day was memorable, but if I had to pick one moment, it would be the exchanging of our vows. In that moment, it felt like it was just me and my wife and everything else faded away.
