Yiling and Ryan’s Merry Celebration at W Singapore Sentosa Cove

Yi Ling and Ryan celebrated their nuptials in a sweet, elegant wedding banquet at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove.

Financial adviser Yi Ling first met her husband, Ryan, in the National University of Singapore’s Business School. After a dramatic skydiving proposal in Sydney, the pair of lovebirds held an intimate solemnisation for family and friends two years ago. Then on 7 May 2019, the sweethearts hosted a wedding banquet at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove, where they planned many fun activities for their guests to enjoy.

Name one thing you love about your partner.

Ryan: I am glad to have met someone who shares similar values with me. What I love most about her is how she always puts others before herself, and also her strong sense of empathy for others.

Yi Ling: Ryan is very meticulous and he takes great care of not just me but my family too. He also never fails to crack me up all the time. He has always been my life mentor, my best friend, my travel mate, my photographer, my handyman, and all the many roles he has taken on.

What was the proposal like?

It was a skydive proposal over Wollongong Beach, Sydney in 2016. Ryan scheduled it on the second last day of our entire Aussie trip. However, due to bad weather, we had to postpone our skydiving activity to the last day of our trip. We were staying in the city and would have to travel two hours down to Wollongong to catch the earliest flight. It was a huge risk for us, because we wouldn’t know if the weather would suddenly change again while we’re driving there. In the end, we were blessed with perfect weather and everything went according to plan. After the skydiving experience, we drove straight to the airport to catch our flight back to Singapore!

What did you want for your wedding and how did you create it?

Our wish was for our guests to simply enjoy themselves on our wedding day. We prioritised our guests’ needs when we were planning our wedding. We also shared our love story by displaying our wedding photos that we have taken in Paris and also in Singapore throughout the event. We engaged a live coconut ice cream station to keep our guests occupied, especially those who came with their children. We also had a photobooth with four different backdrops for our guests to customise for their keepsakes. We also shared our growing-up story with a childhood montage that we did on our own, and also showcased our skydiving proposal video.

What was your wedding day like?

We had our solemnisation at Portico Prime Dempsey on 7 May 2017 with about 90 guests. It was an intimate affair with just family and close friends, with a three-course western lunch. Our actual wedding banquet was held on 7 May 2019 at W Sentosa Singapore. Gatecrash and tea ceremony done on the same day.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Yi Ling: My husband couldn’t pop the cork from the champagne bottle! Other than that, everything from our pre-wedding to actual day went smoothly and was executed well! It was perfect for us!

Ryan: The Yum Seng session on the stage. I was really touched to have my wife, our families, relatives, groomsmen, bridesmaids and friends who flew here from overseas to attend our wedding. We could feel the love, blessings and enthusiasm from everyone!
