Strength and Beauty–A Styled Shoot Celebrating International Women’s Day
Featuring eight inspiring women in Singapore, this International Women’s Day styled shoot celebrates female beauty, strength, and individuality.
We were thrilled to receive today’s beautiful and powerful styled shoot in our inbox! To mark International Women’s Day on 8 March 2021, the shoot celebrates the beauty, strength, achievements, and individuality of all women.
Conceptualised by Blush House Bridal, the styled shoot features eight inspiring women. “We invited eight beautiful ladies with infectious energy, courage, tenacity, and passion to model for this campaign,” shares Sheena, the founder of the bridal boutique. They were styled in bohemian gowns to evoke a sense of wonder and whimsy. “The gowns selected for each of them reflects their personality and style. Lace and light-as-air fabrics combine to create simple silhouettes that flatter and accentuates natural curves.”
Each lady’s look was completed by Autelier Hair & Makeup. “As a team of ladies who advocate women’s independence and achievements themselves, we were honoured to participate in this shoot,” they share. Each look was customised not only to fit the concept, but also to accentuate the beautiful features of each individual model.”
The shoot was set in Autelier Loft, and the set was styled in the colours that have symbolised International Women’s Day since 1908, with purple to represent justice and dignity, green for hope, and white for purity. The floral arrangements by Elly Sera Florist added a touch of pastel pink and peach that accentuated the women’s feminine grace.
The models’ individuality as well as unity as women were beautifully captured by Antelope Studios. “Having eight remarkable women together in a photograph was indeed stressful for me,” says photographer Bryan. “But because they are already amazing in their own ways, all I needed to do was to convey my vision to them. Every one of them actually exceeded my expectations in how the images turned out.” Fresh from Kenneth caught the ladies’ personalities on film in a videography session.
Each of these powerful women has an inspiring story, and we ask them to share their dreams and personal mottos in a short interview:
Sheena Phua, founder of Blush House Bridal
What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
I’ve always been fascinated with exploring the world since I was a little girl and I’m glad I managed to realise my dream when I landed my first job as a trolly dolly in Singapore Airlines.
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
Being the founder of my own bridal brand. Seeing brides rock their gowns down the aisle in my gown sparks joy for me!
What is one motto you live by?
Don’t let your dreams scare you. Whatever you do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.
Tay Ying, Actress
What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
I have always been an adventurous girl, and since I was little, I’ve always been open to exploring new things. Back then, even though I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up, I knew for sure that I wanted to always pursue what I loved. True enough, years later I found my love in acting and eventually decided to pursue it!
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
I would say it is surviving my trainee programme in Shanghai back in 2019. I was struggling mentally and physically then, but I’m glad I came out stronger.
What is one motto you live by?
To always keep trying and moving forward; your perseverance and hard work will eventually take you somewhere.
Hazelle Teo, Mediacorp YES 933 radio DJ, host, actress and dancer
What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
As a little girl, I really wanted to be a pop singer. But I’m so happy that didn’t work out because… have you heard me sing? HA. As a teenager, I knew I really wanted to enter the entertainment industry. It must be due to all the Taiwanese dramas I watched. Eventually though, I entered a DJ competition and became a radio jock instead of the actress I envisioned myself to be. Interestingly, this is the best surprise life has given me. I love where I am right now!
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
For a local artiste, I guess being nominated for the annual Star Awards ceremony is a huge deal! It is recognition (from a professional panel of judges, no less!) of all the hard work put into my craft. I am very blessed to have been nominated for Best Newcomer back in 2018, and Best Radio Programme for this year’s coming awards! I am proud because of the smiles it put on my parents’ faces. That is one moment I’ll never forget.
What is one motto you live by?
If I were entirely honest, it’s “Fake it till you make it.” Some may find this negative, untruthful even. But for me, I look at this in terms of confidence. As a host, standing on a stage facing an audience of tens of thousands, I have to be confident even as my fingers are trembling. It’s tried and tested: when I tell myself to “Fake some confidence”, I really end up feeling more assured in myself, and proceed to slay the stage. It’s a weird mental process, but try this next time you’re feeling unsure! It works on sadness as well; just force a wide smile and you’ll really end up feeling better!”
Poojaa Gill, Asia’s Next Top Model (representing Singapore), Financial Broker
What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
When I was little, I dreamt of becoming a news anchor.
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
My proudest accomplishment to date is the opportunity to represent my country in both track and field and pageantry. Not everyone can say they’ve done that.
What is one motto you live by?
Live every day like it’s your last; that way you wouldn’t have any regrets.
Vanessa Ho, MediaCorp actress, host, venture capitalist
What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
I wanted to be a television presenter.
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
Leading three charity projects to date and making an impact on the beneficiaries in Singapore and Indonesia, as well as giving the volunteers an eye-opening experience.
What is one motto you live by?
Why stop at being great in one thing?
Tessa Low, Lawyer
What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
I’ve always loved writing, so my dream was to be a journalist!
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
Finding the balance between stress at work and maintaining loving and healthy relationships with the people I care about! And teaching my cat to sit.
What is one motto you live by?
Always remember to stop and smell the roses.
Noelle Lin, cake artist and founder of Meltedsg
What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
When I was younger, I always wanted to be a fashion designer.
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
My cake shop.
What is one motto you live by?
You only live once. This is my favourite motto when I’m about to do something crazy or stupid!
Nadia Vega, Indonesian Actress, Singer, and Founder of Vega Organics
What did you dream of doing when you were a little girl?
I wanted to live an exciting and fulfilling life!
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
Tiding through tough times, learning from mistakes, and keeping on going.
What is one motto you live by?
