Charmaine and Benjamin’s Romantic Lewin Terrace Wedding

Charmaine and Benjamin tied the knot in a serene and intimate Lewin Terrace wedding celebration filled with heartfelt moments with loved ones.

Charmaine, 28, and Benjamin, 30, both co-founders of The Social Steward, got together in university and dated for nine years before tying the knot in an intimate Lewin Terrace wedding on 22 September 2018, where their close family and friends celebrated their union nestled amidst the trees.

How did you meet?

Charmaine: We met in Singapore Management University at our Business Freshmen Orientation Camp (Bondue)! I crashed my friend’s friend’s group and Ben was in that group. He talked to me on MSN Messenger (those were the days!) and we met for lunch and more dates and then started going out. We have been together for 10 years now and have gone through many significant stages in each other’s lives—graduating from university, internships, first jobs, career changes, etc.

Ben’s very different from me. I am silly while he’s serious. I am naturally positive while he’s not really. I love exploring new places but he likes sticking to food places that he knows will serve up consistently good food. Anyway, a couple of years ago, we successfully started up a business together—a social media agency so we see each other 24/7! It’s so funny because I didn’t even want to be in the same school project groups as him, and look where we are now!

What made you fall in love with your partner?

Charmaine: I took a liking to him as he looked like a “bad boy” in university. He was someone that I was comfortable with; I didn’t feel awkward nor overly conscious with him. I love that Ben makes good decisions and I can rely on him for everything.

Ben: The fact that she never fails to make me smile. I fell in love with her beyond cheerful character!

What was the proposal like?

Ben: It was the best surprise ever and probably exactly what Charmaine would have wanted! I surprised her in the morning on our 8th year anniversary with a huge box of flowers and a ring, at her lift lobby right outside her place. I went down on my knee and asked her to marry me; thankfully she said yes!

What did you want for your wedding?

Charmaine: I didn’t really set out to have a theme but I always liked anything rustic and minimalistic. We wanted to have a small-scale wedding and I was at a loss as to where to hold ours initially. I had seen Lewin Terrace before during a work photoshoot, and I loved how serene it was, how the colonial house looked, plus the greenery and nature around.

What was your Lewin Terrace wedding day like?

Charmaine: Honestly for me, it was quite stressful! Actually I had imagined myself to be happily eating, but I was overwhelmed with emotions on my wedding day, and my dress was too tight. In addition, I had a pimple on my face so I felt quite self-conscious. I also cried a lot during the day as it reminded me of how much love my family showered on me.

Ben: Overall it was a cosy and chill affair for our family and closest friends, as we wanted them (and us) to enjoy it to the fullest!

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Charmaine: It would be the tea ceremony. I didn’t expect myself to cry so much! It was quite emotional when my side of the family told Ben to “take care of me” etc. It also reminded me of how my parents have painstakingly raised me and that I was starting a new phase of life.

Ben: The amazing food from Lewin Terrace (haha kidding!). It was when Charmaine was marching down the aisle with her dad towards me, because that was the moment just before we officially became husband and wife after nine years of dating.
