Ariel and Johan’s Gorgeous Industrial Wedding at The Ahava

Ariel and Johan celebrated their love in a gorgeous industrial Ahava wedding, where the bride crafted her own beautiful invitations and her mother styled the flowers!

Ariel, 25, and Johan, 26, have known each other since they were in secondary school, although it wasn’t love at first sight because she made fun of his high socks! Sitting next to each other in class brought them closer, and the couple got married in a gorgeous industrial wedding on 19 May 2019 at newly launched The Ahava, where Ariel crafted her own wedding invitation suite and her mother styled the wedding flowers!

How did the two of you meet?

Ariel: We met in Secondary 1. We were in the same class and somehow got paired to sit beside each other at the back of the class. I remember thinking to myself back then, “This guy is a nerdball.” He wore his socks really high and they had the school’s name printed in big letters on it. The funniest part was when I told Johan it was super uncool to wear his socks so high, and he dismissed me saying he just wanted to follow school rules.

Johan: It wasn’t love at first sight. I remember that she and her friend were very annoying, and kept making fun of my high socks. I think it was the time spent sitting beside each other that drew us closer.

What do you love most about your partner?

Johan: What I love most about Ariel is that she is very selfless. She thinks of others before herself. She is the most kindhearted person I know.

Ariel: Johan is an extremely patient person. I don’t think I would ever be able to find another partner as patient as him. I fell in love with his magic tricks! Haha! He’s very entertaining and he really knows how to make me laugh.

What was the proposal like?

Ariel: The proposal was in California, USA, by a lake. However, because it was our first time there, we got lost along the way. We stopped by a lake and Johan decided that it would be a good location to do the proposal. He performed a customised magic trick for me, about our love story and his hopes for our future, and then he got down on one knee!

How did you create your wedding theme?

Ariel: Johan was very accommodating and allowed me to plan the wedding in whichever way I liked! I’ve always wanted our wedding to be industrial and chill. I think my dream wedding would have been in an all-brick warehouse and I was set on the idea of a rustic warehouse wedding, paired with fairy lights, woodland or barnyard decorations, and hearty laughter all around. I’ve never been a girly-girl, so a pink and white theme would not have suited my style. We went with the colour palette of white, dusty blue, dusty grey, plum, gold, and a few touches of blush. I think everything came together nicely, especially paired with Ahava’s industrial look. I browsed through SingaporeBrides for reviews on some vendors, etc. which was definitely helpful during planning!

What was your wedding day like?

Johan: First thoughts—it went by in a flash. But I really enjoyed every part of the wedding! My only wish is that time could have passed slower, so we could have spent more time with our friends and family.

Ariel: The. Best. Day. Of. My. Life!!! I had heard lots of stories from people saying that your wedding day would be the happiest day in your life, and I can now vouch for that. Although we caught little sleep, I think adrenaline and excitement fueled us through the whole day. The best part about the wedding is really spending time with people who matter. I loved that our loved ones could be in the same space, under the same sky, just to share our special day. We had quite a number of guests who flew in from all over the world, so it was really a treat to have everyone together again. Programme wise, everything went smoothly, thanks to events training from work, haha! All in all, it was really a day with lots of fun, laughter, and heartfelt moments with people who mean the world to us.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Johan: My memorable moment was when Ariel walked down the long aisle. In that moment I couldn’t believe that this was happening. It felt so surreal.

Ariel: Walking down the aisle towards Johan, with Daddy by my side. I think it was the most significant part of the wedding. It really hit me, and our guests (many in tears!) that yes – we are really getting MARRIED. We’re leaving our parents to become a unit of our own. It’s hard to explain that magical moment – but it was really joyous.

I think the long aisle made a difference. To give the bride, father, groom, and guests time to soak in the moment and to be present with the bride and groom!
