Hui Teng and Elgene’s Joyous Wedding at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore
Hui Teng and Elgene ties the knot in a simple but beautiful affair at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore.
Hui Teng, 28, Accounts Executive, met her husband, Elgene, 32, Dental Technician, through a social media platform. After chatting online for half a year, the pair decided to meet up in person and love blossomed. Together with their family and friends, Hui Teng and Elgene celebrated their nuptials on 30 September 2017 at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore after falling in love with the hotel’s décor and ballroom.
What do you love about each other?
Elgene : Her personality. Hui Teng’s shy yet easy to get along after you get to know her long enough. She is also very caring towards little animals. I especially love her willingness to accommodate me, like picking up the sport that I play most often.
Hui Teng : Elgene is very calm in all situations and he rarely gets flustered. Most importantly, he is very accommodating. Above all, I love his patience and the fact that he rarely gets angry.
How did you propose, Elgene?
The proposal was initially planned to be at a place like a restaurant or a cinema. But I felt that it wasn’t really going to feel good or special. Then, I saw an opportunity when she had her class gathering in Desaru, Johor Bahru, and decided to propose with the support of all her good friends because I wanted the occasion to be memorable.
I am still very thankful for all the help her friends gave me on that fateful day. It was a special moment when I knelt on one knee, asking for her hand in marriage, and us tearing up.
What was your wedding planning journey like?
Wedding planning is no joke when you need to source for literally everything and the endless choices you have to make for every single aspect of a wedding. Sometimes, we just felt like giving up. But, it is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion and we still have to go through it.
Every couple goes through many challenges during wedding planning and we are not any different. From indecisiveness to quarrels, it’s part and parcel of getting to know one another better. At the end of the day, we have to make peace with each other no matter what as decisions have to be made.
One of the biggest challenges faced was finding a solemniser. I thought it would be easy looking for one. I only started looking for one three weeks before my wedding day. Just as the rejections from solemnisers begin to pile up, I realised that I had started looking for one a little late. But, thankfully, I managed to find one who was very good. He spent an hour with us, going through a short session on the SOP and the significance of a marriage – somewhat like a mini marriage counselling session which I thought is very good.
What was your wedding day like?
We chose to wed at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore because the moment we set foot into the hotel, we knew at once that it was the one. I especially loved the staircase leading down to the ballroom as it gave off a fairytale kind of entrance, which I suppose not many hotels offer that same experience.
On the day of our wedding, everything went well in the morning up until we were about to leave Hui Teng’s place. It started to rain but it was fine by me because God knows I hate hot weather! The rain eventually stopped before we headed to Hort Park for a short photoshoot, so that worked out.
Elgene: Instead of a wedding theme, we decided to get the groomsmen to don Manchester United football jerseys while I wore a red tie as their ‘manager’ because I was a hardcore Manchester United fan and I wanted to incorporate some Manchester United elements into the wedding.
All our family and friends enjoyed the wedding, which was what we wanted.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Elgene : Our wedding vows
Hui Teng : When he sang a song for me during the wedding banquet
What is one lesson you’ve learnt from your wedding planning that you’d like to share with other couples?
Elgene : Without a doubt, find your solemniser early!
Hui Teng : Find a wedding planner who is meticulous and organised.
