Janice and Samuel’s Stylish Wedding at The Westin Singapore
University sweethearts Janice and Samuel tied the knot at the prestigious The Westin Singapore earlier this year.
Janice, 30, Engineer, and Samuel, 32, Engineer, were university classmates at Nanyang Technological University. They shared the same tutorial lessons, lectures and even interned in the same company and went for an overseas exchange in Shanghai together. As if it wasn’t clear that these two individuals were meant to be, their exam matriculation numbers were just next to each other. After a surprise proposal involving many (Hello) kitties, Janice and Samuel tied the knot in an elegant affair at The Westin Singapore on 28 May 2016, all decked out in beautiful outfits from Z Wedding D’sign.
So, Janice and Samuel, how did it all begin?
We started off as friends who enjoyed confiding in one another, and we always had endless topics to talk about non-stop during our school days. Gradually, we realised that we were part of each other’s lives and it was our very presence that motivated us to strive better in life.
What about each other do you like the most?
Janice: I like that Samuel is a down-to-earth guy (however, not romantic at all), organised in his work and a calm planner.
Samuel: Janice is a diligent person and I find that that trait of hers fits in with me quite well.
How did Samuel propose?
We went the practical route – we went to customise my engagement ring together so that I can make it to my liking prior to the proposal. On the proposal day itself, he surprised me with the entire series of MacDonald’s Hello Kitty collectibles (Yes, I am a fan of Hello Kitty!) together with my engagement ring.
Share with us your wedding planning journey.
We started planning for this big occasion almost one and a half years in advance, sourcing for a bridal package, banquet venue, auspicious dates and so on. Online forums, like the SingaporeBrides forum, are very useful for reading up on customers’ reviews, idea-sharing and alerts on upcoming wedding events. While it was definitely a long and tiring journey, it was truly memorable. In fact, we are happy that the wedding vendors who we engaged are mostly commendable and that made us feel more at ease.
Tell us about your experience with Z Wedding D’sign.
We are pleased to have signed the bridal package with Z Wedding D’sign. Their professionalism and services exceeded our expectations in most situations. We visited both Z Wedding D’sign and The Privilege of Chris Ling International on countless occasions for gown selection, photoshoot discussion, photos selection, photo-editings and so on. On every visit, the staff were always friendly and sincere and we always felt at ease and less stressed out with the team helping us. Not only that, they were highly professional in their specialisation. They provide a wide range of gorgeous wedding gowns. I remembered spending an entire afternoon deciding on my gowns as there were too many impressive designs that I had a hard time choosing.
On the week that we were supposed to have our pre-wedding photoshoot, Samuel unexpectedly fell sick and was hospitalised. As a result, we would need to postpone our photoshoot. We were quite worried, as it was just four months away from our actual day. Fortunately, Z Wedding D’sign tried their best to reschedule our photoshoot and managed to produce our pre-wedding photos within a short period of time. The photos turned out pretty excellent! We were really impressed by the efficiency and quality of their work.
We greatly appreciate the help of the Z Wedding team, Samuel Tan, Clare, Lydia, May, Samuel Yee, Tommy, Louise and Jun, for making our lifetime event a memorable one!
What was the actual day like?
We slept very late on the night before, as we were probably too excited and also overwhelmed by the amount of preparation work. On the day itself, we woke up as early as 4am. Luckily, my make-up artist, May, did an excellent job in transforming me into a pretty bride.
It was a long and fun-filled day. Everything just passed within a blink of an eye. We were glad to have Tommy assigned to us to capture the special moments. It was a pleasure having him as a photographer for our actual day, as he made us felt so comfortable and at ease throughout the day. The wedding photos taken were beyond our expectations, and we love every photo that was taken. We are more than pleased to say that Tommy made quite the impression on our guests, who all stated how professional he was.
What did your family and friends have to say about yourwedding?
Our family and friends enjoyed themselves during the wedding dinner. They were impressed with the taste and quality of food and we received positive feedback that the dishes are unique and portion size was huge. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Westin team in planning and executing our wedding banquet to near perfection. Not forgetting to highlight the extraordinary services provided by our wedding coordinator, Lek Sheau Wen – she was always prompt in her replies and willing to go the extra mile in helping us resolve issues. Her experience in wedding planning definitely helped us throughout the stressful journey. We were always assured knowing that there was an experience and reliable person for us to count on.
Share with us one memorable memory from your wedding day.
Prior to the wedding day, I looked forward to the outdoor photoshoot with our entourage. However, it was pouring heavily early in the morning when my bridesmaids and Samuel were on the way to my place. Luckily, the rain stopped when we reached Little Guilin for our outdoor photoshoot. We were literally braving through rain and shine during the day. Little Guilin is really a hidden gem in the West area, this park is beautifully landscaped with the tranquil lake and the surrounding rock cliffs. We highly recommend.
