Janice and Xavier’s Elegant and Modern Wedding at Salt Grill & Sky Bar
Janice and Xavier took their love to a new height when they solemnised at Salt Grill & Sky Bar located on Level 55 in Ion Orchard.
Janice Tay, 27, Relationship Manager, and Xavier Ong, 28, Banking Professional, met at a birthday party where Janice was intrigued by Xavier’s chatty and insightful personality, and his views of general affairs. The two kept in contact after the party and continued to see each other, eventually falling for one another. After a surprised proposal disguised as a birthday celebration at S.E.A Aquarium, the pair of lovebirds tied the knot on 7 June 2015 at the beautiful and modern Salt Grill & Sky Bar in an elegant and intimate affair.
What was the proposal like?
Janice: Xavier prepared my engagement ring behind my back without my knowledge. We went to Ocean Restaurant at the S.E.A Aquarium for my birthday celebration and had a very delightful meal in the presence of beautiful sea creatures and marine life. The ambience was very romantic and laid-back, and Xavier started to talk about topics such as family and togetherness. He meticulously waited for the moment and to my surprise, he went down on one knee with the most beautiful ring in the world and popped the question in a really unique manner which corresponded with the topics we were talking about earlier.
I was really caught by surprise and touched at the same time as I had no idea that he was planning the proposal all this while. As cliché as it sounds, it was really sweet that he planned such a surprise on my birthday as well. And of course I said yes!
Tell us about your wedding planning and wedding theme.
I wanted the theme to be classy but yet sentimental, and chose white and gold to be the main colours for the decorations. I did some research and it took me some time to find the perfect florist who matched my expectations in terms of what I was looking for regarding the floral settings and decorations. I also rented Tiffany chairs for the wedding to match the elegance of of the interiors at Salt grill & Sky bar.
I then enlisted the help of my sister’s best friend, Yanling, to assist with the design of our wedding invitation cards as I wanted the design to be uniquely different from the usual wedding invitation cards. In order to make it more personalised, I also used wax stamps as seals for the envelopes of the invitation cards, which we physically melted and utilised a customised stamp with both our initials to seal the envelopes.
What was your wedding day like?
The ambience of Salt Grill & Sky Bar was really classy but laid-back enough for our guests to enjoy themselves. The sights and surroundings which were hugely visible from Level 55 made everyone really spontaneous in terms of taking photos and viewing the sights from the glass windows of the restaurant. The venue was adequately spacious and accommodated the total number of guests well, and everyone could walk around and mingle very easily. The Tiffany chairs as well as the surrounding floral decoration provided a really classic and simple feel to go along with the classy and modern design of Salt Grill & Sky Bar too.
We enlisted the help of a friend to provide the music for the day, and it was a splendid mix in terms of suitability and variety for the occasion. Our solemnisation was made really fun and interesting by our chatty and humourous solemniser, and the moment we exchanged our wedding vows was one to remember forever. The food provided by Salt Grill & Sky Bar was a nice spread and everyone enjoyed it, especially the desserts. It was a very unique experience for us as well as our guests because of the beautiful views from the top of Ion Orchard.
Can you share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?
The most memorable moment was the romantic and deliberate walk down the aisle, which was unique as it encompassed the spiral steps of the ION Sky (Observatory) which happens to be located within Salt Grill & Sky Bar. The walk allowed us to have such a beautiful view of the surroundings from Level 55 of ION while the spiral shape enabled our guests to have a really nice view of us as well as our walk down the steps. Together with our nicely chosen piece of march-in music, the walk down the steps of Salt Grill & Sky Bar was indeed memorable. We will always remember this for the rest of our lives.
