Gerald and Zhixin’s Travel-Themed Wedding at The Westin Singapore
Lovebirds Zhi Xin and Gerald tied the knot in a fun-filled travel-themed wedding on 20 February 2016 at The Westin Singapore.
Zhi Xin, 24, Finance/Sales Executive met Gerald, 30, Assistant Programming Manager at radio station 987FM six years ago. It was Adam Lambert who brought them together. Well, sort of. Zhi Xin was introduced to a radio show Gerald was hosting back then and had won a signed poster of Adam Lambert, whom she was a huge fan of. Due to a delay in the delivery of posters, Gerald felt bad and decided to pass the poster to her personally. They started chatting on Facebook and the rest is history! Gerald later found out that they were caught on video waiting at Changi Airport for Adam Lambert’s first arrival in Singapore. Now, that’s what we call fate!

What was the proposal like?
I proposed twice because I wanted to make sure! She said yes both times, of course! The first proposal was in 2013 when I had a chance to interview Adam Lambert. I prepared a sign that said “Say yes to Gerald!” and had him hold it to help me propose. That photo of him holding the sign went viral on social media! The second proposal took place in Paris while we were on vacation. This time, I proposed with a ring in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle during the fireworks.
Tell us about your wedding planning. Was there a wedding theme?
I always thought that wedding planning was going to be stressful. For us, it was more fun than anything else! Both of us were in charge of different things for the wedding. I was more of the logistics and administrative one, while Zhi Xin was the creative one who styled the entire wedding reception!
We decided on a travel-themed wedding because we love travelling! Instead of a traditional angbao box, we styled a suitcase with a ‘Honeymoon fund’ bunting. We had boarding pass save-the-dates and passport escort cards, tables named after countries and cities, and even a metal detector! Our groomsmen had hand-held scanners while our bridesmaids dressed as flight attendants in Singapore Airlines’s signature kebaya.
How was the actual day like? Did things run smoothly? How were you feeling?
Things couldn’t have ran smoother, with the help of all my bridesmaids and groomsmen who came very early to help with the reception area! To our surprise, both Zhi Xin and I were very calm that day. We pretty much enjoyed ourselves! If we could do it again, we would. To the same partner of course!
Our family and friends couldn’t stop praising the delicious food at the banquet, and we couldn’t agree more!
Were there any particular moments during your wedding that were especially memorable or special to you?
Serenading Zhi Xin with Flying without wings by Westlife, whom she is a fan of, was particularly memorable as it was a very meaningful song. Another memorable moment was when Adam Piperdy, our host, changed into the Singapore Airlines’s kebaya and surprised all our guests!
