How did the two of you meet?
Si Yi: We met during Junior College, 17 years ago.
What was the proposal like?
Jerry: I proposed with a flash mob dance in a restaurant at Sentosa.
What was the theme of your wedding, and how did you create it?
Jerry: For the music, most of the songs we got our live band to play, as well as the background music, were from the 90s, since most of our friends are around our age. For the photos and videos shown, they were themed on superheroes. I took on an “Ironman” role while the Si Yi dressed up as “Hit Girl”.
Si Yi: The wedding favours, wooden key holders, were handmade at my dad’s carpentry workshop before being sent for engraving. A special gift, handmade flower brooches made out of soft drink cans, was also prepared for all mothers since it was Mothers’ Day.
What was your wedding day like?
Si Yi: The day started early, with me being Teo Chew; gatecrashing started at 6am, followed by the customary visits and tea ceremonies to both families. Our solemnisation took place at The Promenade at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore before our wedding dinner at the Grand Ballroom. The first march-in was a flash mob in collaboration with NTU’s dance team to give all our guests a surprise!
Jerry: Instead of a typical childhood montage, we turned this element into a Powerpoint presentation with our thank you speech so as to allow our families and friends to savour the moment and the old photos more. We also customised our first banquet dish with five local snacks–satay, otah, rojak, shrimp paste chicken, and popiah.
Can you tell us the cost of your wedding, and your number of guests?
Jerry: The cost is estimated to be $128K, inclusive of everything: banquet, solemnisation, rings, gowns, suits, costume and props for videos, wedding favours, photography, videography, make-up, accessories, ang baos, betrothal items, flowers, etc.) We had about 550 guests.
Can you share with us the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Si Yi: Preparing for the wedding with the self-made videos and dance item. The videos from proposal to wedding day involved many friends and it was fun doing this together with them. When the videos were played on the day, everyone had fun watching the videos.
