Meredith and Ian’s Romantic Beach Wedding in Phuket

Meredith and Ian’s romantic blue and white beach wedding in Phuket will leave you longing for the sea breeze and wide open skies!
This couple’s gorgeous destination wedding in Phuket on 29 November 2014 celebrated yet another milestone of their relationship overseas. Meredith, 27, and Ian, 29, met in Brisbane, and the road to happily ever after began when he proposed in Bangkok!

How did the two of you meet?
We met in university in Brisbane, Australia. There was frequent gatherings held for Singaporeans and we met at one of the netball events in school.
What was the proposal like?
Meredith: He surprised me with the proposal during our vacation in Bangkok. He commissioned his friend to draw our story in the form of a comic, which summarised the key moments of our relationship. To be honest, I could not register much that he said during the proposal, but I was touched by the comic story of us, and how he remembered certain details of our relationship.
What inspired you to hold a destination wedding?
Meredith: I have always dreamed of a beach wedding. We wanted it to be a laid-back intimate wedding where our closest friends and family got together to celebrate our marriage.
So what theme did you choose for your beach wedding?
Meredith: We had a beach theme that revolved around a blue and white colour scheme. To thank our guests for flying in to Phuket for our wedding, we decided to hand-deliver our welcome packs to the different accommodation that our guests were staying at. With the breathtaking ocean view as our backdrop, we exchanged our vows and it was the exact image I have always dreamed of for my wedding.
Ian: At the reception table, our table place cards were in Polaroid form where we printed photos that we had taken with guests during the different stages of our life. Ours was a small wedding with 60 guests, hence we were able to mingle with all our guests and it was a wonderful night filled with lots of love and laughter. Instead of having a tiered wedding cake, we decided to order our wedding crepe cake from a stall at the Phuket Weekend Market that we discovered during our recce trip, and it definitely saved us some money.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
Meredith: When he surprised me with a Thai song, “Pae Jai,” which he sang along to with the band. As we were both tied up with wedding errands until right before our wedding, I was touched to know that he found time to memorise the lyrics and rehearsed it.
