Designer Feature: Galia Lahav Fall 2016

This season, Galia Lahav presents both her bridal read-to-wear and haute couture collections. Held at The New York Public Library, the show—lit by dim chandeliers and haunted by the flicker of the candles in the hall—was nothing short of a dream for me.

I am spellbound by all things gothic, and the Galia Lahav Fall 2016 show venue got me so excited on the day of the event. However, it rained all day, and traffic was a nightmare. But, I got to the show just before it started, and the skies lent a gloomy mood to the mysterious setting inside the The New York Public Library, with its beautiful Beaux-Arts architecture.

The mood at the Galia Lahav Fall 2016 show

Seated around the hall with tall candles as centrepiece, it felt like we were hooded audience waiting for a ritual from an ancient secret society to start. I’d love to show you the photos, but the lookbook images for the collections was just as beautiful, so I shall showcase them here so they do not go to waste.

Galia Lahav’s ready-to-wear collection, named Gala, was inspired by capitals of the world and modern love stories. The gowns were made from modern fabrics, and designs had a strong focus on comfort.

Even with ornately layered skirts and cutaway bodices in embellished lace with glass beading, the silhouettes were soft and flattering. The dresses were of silk chiffon layered with soft tulle in blush, with sheer illusion panels trailing organza trains. The theme of romance was apparent in this collection.

Galia Lahav’s second offering of the night was the couture collection, named Ivory Tower. Inspired by the medieval times, this collection is very couture and gothic, with a lot of structure and clean lines, bearing a resemblance to gothic architecture, such as the windows in churches. That explains the choice of venue and, may I say, a very befitting one. Models working the runway looked like haughty medieval queens holding court as their kings were out conquering lands.

The two stunning Galia Lahav Fall 2016 collections definitely kept to their signature style of sexiness but I love that there was an element of romance and femininity this season. And we can never have enough of those.

Galia Lahav is available internationally, and at The Proposal in Singapore.
