Designer Feature: Galia Lahav Spring 2016
Known for her illusion backs and extravagantly intricate designs, for her new collection, “Les Reves Bohemiens,” Galia Lahav brought out a glamorous wild child in the bohemian bride, with barely-there illusion lace, thigh-high slits, and translucent silks, all embellished with a healthy dose of sparkling crystals.
Opulent, dramatic, and very sexy, Galia Lahav’s wedding gowns for Spring 2016 were a sight to behold. The runway show was held in the Villard Mansion, and the rich, architectural details made the perfect setting for the glamour of the collection. Inspired by a bohemian love story, “Les Reves Bohemiens” is a glamorously romantic collection laced with the dreams of fairytale princesses. With luxuriously floating chiffon layers, dainty corsets, and slivers of skin, the wedding gowns are what our beloved storybook princesses would wear if they could fling (children-appropriate) decorum to the winds. They call to mind the shimmering, grown-up, snow crystal gown that Elsa conjured when she freed the magic locked inside her.
Extravagant skirts are juxtaposed with tantalising skin to create a collection that calls to the free-spirited bride. Hand-embroidered pearls and applique create rich textures, irregular layers of tulle add drama to the silhouette, and intricate French Chantilly, Resille, and vintage laces accord a lavish bohemian romance. Unique silhouettes are shaped by layering sheer textiles and creative positioning of lace.
We all oohed and ahhed as the plunging necklines and gorgeous lace came down the runway, and gasped as the gowns turned to reveal glittering illusion backs in crystal patterns. Cinderella’s namesake iconic blue gown was instantly recognisable, but it had been given a light wand’s touch from a fairy godmother whose tastes ran a little sexier. Belle was a champagne-coloured gown with a silver-edged, plunging neckline that turned to reveal a winged-cape motif, creating an illusion of fluttering sleeves. Blossom featured lavish metallic hand-embroidery and textures and a peekaboo blush fishtail skirt. But the gown that really stole the show had to be Wendy, a slinky, tailored silk crepe gown with a plunging neckline. The gown walked down the runway accented with a long lace-trimmed cape, and the moment the model shrugged off her cape and turned to reveal a scintillating, entirely sheer back made of an embroidered, crystallised net, an audible gasp was heard across the room, and many of us stood up for a better look. Talk about sexy. Our editor, Michelle, sighed at the sheer drama of it.
Galia Lahav’s Spring 2016 collection was definitely an opulent one. If you’re a daring, sophisticated bride with a free spirit, these sexy, dramatic gowns could just make your bohemian dreams come true.
