Qiuling and Terence’s Garden Wedding at Suburbia, Sentosa

Qiuling and Terence wed in a garden ceremony at Suburbia, Sentosa, under twinkling fairy lights and amidst the warm glow of loving family and friends.

The journey to Qiuling, 32, Corporate Development Manager and Terence, 32, Design Director’s beautiful Suburbia, Sentosa wedding began with 99 roses and a romantic picnic. Their garden wedding on 12 May 2015 was an elegant celebration twinkling with enchanting fairy lights and laced with the scent of fresh blooms.

How did the two of you meet?

Terence: We met through a mutual friend who thought that we would get along because we both love cats.

Qiuling: The old adage “Opposites attract” was probably true for our case. The fact that we are so inherently different in our characters—him being very sensitive and passionate and a perfectionist, while I’m a lot more rational, level-headed and relaxed—I think that drew us to each other.

What was the proposal like?

Qiuling: It started with 99 roses sent to my office in the day, followed by a picnic with a home-cooked meal he prepared. Did I mention he’s a great cook?

What was the theme of your wedding?

Qiuling: We didn’t want a traditional ballroom wedding so we considered a few unique restaurants for our wedding. We eventually went with Suburbia, Sentosa because we really liked the garden setting. With the tiffany chairs in the lawn area where we did our vows, it was so picture perfect. It was even more so at night, as Terence had arranged for fairy lights to be placed not only in the restaurant, but also in the garden, and it looked so magical.

We wrote the names of our guests on art paper and ice cream sticks and stuck them into mini potted succulents which we placed at each of their seats. Most of our guests brought the plants home with them as a memento.

What was your wedding day like?

Qiuling: It was stressful and frankly, a little chaotic at times. Terence was running to and from the restaurant and the hotel, making sure the setting was right. There was a lot of coordination to do as we didn’t have a wedding planner, but thanks to a great bunch of friends who helped, everything ran smoothly. After we were done with the ceremonious part of the wedding, it was a lot more relaxed and enjoyable.

Can you tell us the cost of your wedding?

Qiuling: In all, I think we spent about $40,000.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Qiuling: Exchanging our vows. We were both perspiring profusely under the evening sun and I was trying to stop my veil from sticking to my forehead. But when we exchanged our vows, I thought that was a beautiful moment.
