Designer Feature: Della Giovanna Fall 2015
Della Giovanna debuted its Fall 2015 collection at the NYC Bridal Market. The bridal house’s second collection once again showcased its focus on bridal separates with a modern edge.
Brooklyn-based designer Michelle launched her first line last Fall, and she returns with a daring collection of bridal separates with sleek lines and edgy embellishment. The Della Giovanna Fall 2015 collection was inspired by the intricacy of medieval chainmail armour, and features unconventional elements like gold chainmail and leather alongside more traditional textiles like silk charmeuse and organza. The collection’s 27 pieces can be mixed and matched 147 different ways, allowing a bride to create a wedding gown that perfectly complements her figure and suits her wedding day needs.Sasha Corset, Eden Blouse and Quinn Skirt Zoey Corset and Sarah Skirt Kay Corset and Camille Skirt Carol Corset and Dakota Skirt Julia Corset and Corinne Skirt
The collection’s inspiration from medieval Europe can be seen in the gathered peasant tops and skirts in silk chiffon, and flowing transclucent sleeves on relaxed blouses. An update on the leather armour worn in medieval times, a fitted crewneck top in soft white leather is reminiscent of warrior princesses. Another edgy leather piece is the white leather harness, which features dainty straps and gold hardware that work surprisingly well for bridal wear. More modern influences also prevail, evidenced in the cute mini skirt, the wide-legged pant, and the ombre coloured ruffled skirt.Valentin Corset, Jennifer Harness and Nicole Skirt Morgan Top and Sydney Skirt Carey Top and Cleo Pant Melissa Dress Adrien Corset and Milan Skirt
Della Giovanna adds wedding gown glamour to the edgy collection in an unconventional manner—through the burnished gold gleam of chainmail. Who knew medieval armour held so much glamour? With its intertwining gold rings intricately woven together to protect the heart, the chainmail concept is also rather fitting for a wedding collection.Allison Corset and Rose Skirt Sharmaine Dress McAllister Corset, Brienne Neckpiece, and Elizabeth Skirt Charlie Corset, Jess Skirt, and Chainmail Headpiece Alexandria Dress
Embellishing corset tops, creating a bold neckpiece, and cascading down an edgy take on the flapper dress are some of the innovative ways designer Michelle has used gold chainmail to finish a unique bridal collection. The melding of flowing fabrics, edgy embellishments, old fashions and new trends creates a collection that juxtaposes hard and soft to make a big fashion statement.
Della Giovanna’s 2015 Collection gowns range from USD $1000-$6000 and are available online and in select stores.
