Her interest in bridal makeup grew and blossomed over the years and after six years of honing and refining her skills, she decided to embrace her inner entrepreneur and start a business of her own. In 2007, Beauty Magic by Liren Neo was successfully up and running with a five-man team. Today, in addition to her work as a bridal makeup artist, Liren also offers Singapore’s first ever accredited makeup course for ladies who are interested in learning proper makeup application and tips for the boardroom to a ballroom.
But things weren’t always smooth-sailing for Liren, especially in the beginning. “I had to accept every job I was offered to build my reputation and experience, even if it meant going up and down the stairs with a 10kg cosmetic case, or working in a mosquito-infested environment,” Liren confides. But all those years of hard work has finally paid off as she receives support from her loyal customer base and recognition for her entrepreneurial ventures and successes. She was awarded the Best Customer Service Award at the Singapore Heartland Enterprise Star Award 2014 and was invited by the Bishan Business Committee to share her entrepreneurial journey at the Entrepreneurial Experience Seminar, where she was also presented with a Token of Appreciation.
Liren’s passion and fire for her brand and what she does comes from her belief that every woman should invest in a skill that beautifies and brings joy to both herself and others. “When my brides thank me for bringing glamour into their wedding day, all those years of hard work just melt away,” she quips. Liren takes her task of customising a stunning makeup look for each and every one of her brides very seriously. There is no one standard makeup procedure she uses; instead, she creates a natural and timeless look that enhances her bride’s natural beauty by observing her face. “Rather than going with the current makeup trend of opting for a face of dramatic makeup, a simple touch of makeup to complement your beautiful wedding gown is all a bride needs to look stunning on her big day,” Liren emphasises.
Not using concealer in her makeup repertoire is another trademark of Liren’s, as she believes that it does more harm than good to the skin. “Improper makeup removal techniques and the harmful effects of concealers accumulates on our skin, making our facial blemishes worse than before,” she reveals. Instead, she relies on her skills and quality products to hide flaws and beautify her brides. She also goes the extra mile by sharing makeup tips with her brides, teaching them proper makeup procedures and essential tips on how to care for their skin, and help them with their wedding planning by sharing tips and educating them on the necessary wedding traditions.
