A Runway Rendezvous with the Stars
The bridal fashion show at the Happily Ever After Wedding Show by Mandarin Orchard Singapore on 13 October 2013 was a grand affair indeed. Not only were couples given a stunning preview of the latest collections by three different bridal boutiques, attendees were also treated to stellar performances by the celebrated international artiste Bernice Liu.
Stepping into a ballroom transformed into a glittering enchanted garden, couples quickly secured the best seats for the stardusted fashion show. Candles illuminated the T-shaped runway, which led to a sparkling fountain terrace on one end, and a candlelit wedding arch on the other. The show opened dramatically, as a flower girl and a page boy escorted Bernice into the ballroom. She looked a picture-perfect bride in the specially designed gown and lace-edged veil by La Belle Couture, who custom-created the lace V-neck, A-line gown to show off Bernice’s slender physique. In the dusky, romantic lighting, the delicate lacework on Bernice’s gown and her moving song created a soft atmosphere of love and beauty.
La Belle Couture’s collection opened with big ballgowns in classic white and embellished sweetheart necklines. Full skirts ruffled with tulle and organza floated down the runway. For the colourful bride, La Belle Couture’s pastel hued wedding gown was sure to please as it posed prettily under the flower arch. One stand out among the white gowns was a lace boatneck gown with a flattering lace-edged A-line skirt, which accentuated the model’s waist with a navy sash and matching elbow length gloves for a nod to Audrey Hepburn’s classic elegance. Holding her gloved arm is her groom in a gleaming white suit, set off with a black shirt and matching pocket square.
Next, La Belle Couture showcased their creativity with stunning evening gowns. A sexy black halter-neck gown embellished with crystals and beading sashayed down the runway, revealing a fiery red satin lining on its high-low skirt. With its sleek silhouette hugging every curve, this sultry number is for the show-stopping bride. Her equally daring groom looked dashing in a smart black coat, highlighted in the same red at the collar. Bold use of colour characterised the La Belle Couture collection, as gowns in deep red, shimmering purple and ombre tones came down the runway. Besides featuring the popular ballgown skirt, the designers accentuated the womanly figure with sexy mermaid and trumpet gowns whose skirts flared strikingly at mid-thigh. Intricate back details also ruled the day, and a pink gown with a heart-shaped cut out in the back particularly caught the audience’s eye.
The second segment of the show opened with a sparkling ballgown by My Dream Wedding. Its plunging sweetheart neckline was overlaid with illusion in a boat neck cut, and embellished with crystals that caught the light as the model walked down the runway. The glittering crystals on the gown’s low lace back and the tiered organza on the long train ensured a dramatic view as the model turned on the runway.
My Dream Wedding’s wedding collection featured high collars on illusion necklines that complemented figure-hugging trumpet cuts to elongate the body for an elegant silhouette. The popular sweetheart neckline ballgown with crystal-embellished bodice was updated with delicate organza flowers on the skirts and sexy back details. Highlighting their gowns were crystal bouquets and elaborate hairpieces that added glamour and sparkle for this most special of occasions. Not to be outshone, the grooms were resplendent in metallic suits, sequinned vests and velvet detailing, but Bernice stole the show as she appeared for a romantic rendezvous by the fountain, in an evening gown with a mandarin collar and keyhole detail at the throat. As she sang about dreaming dreams under the stars, the audience appreciated the way the deep red of the gown, chosen with a designer’s aesthetic eye, set off her porcelain skin. Beautiful embroidery flowed down the svelte curves of the gown, and her champagne crystal bouquet gave this sexy Old Shanghai look a touch of the modern day.
For the third and final segment of this romantic runway, The Feline Bridal opened their fashion show with a scoop-necked gown embellished in lace. The audience was starry-eyed as the model turned to reveal a stunning row of immaculate buttons all down the illusion-covered back. The boutique showcased a variety of silhouettes, with plunging V necklines, sweet, lacy off-shoulders, drop waists and diamante halter necks. Beautiful accents were seen throughout the collection as well, with traditional lace corsets that cinch the waist, and delicate flowers trailing down the bodice onto soft tulle skirts. One gown particularly caught the audience’s eye with its sweetheart bodice and short ruffled skirt that elongated into a dramatic train at the back, embellished with crystals and organza rosettes.
Dressed in smart three-piece suits featuring satin lapels, exaggerated bow ties and black accents, the grooms led their blushing brides down the runway for romantic interludes beside the sparkling fountain. Fashionable grooms took note of The Feline Bridal’s bold selection of fabric, with its showcase of a glittering silver suit, and a striking Matador-reminiscent suit in dark brocade. The show drew to a close as Bernice danced onto the runway in a custom-designed demure white gown with long lace sleeves. With the lights softly gleaming in the romantic garden settings, her dashing partner dipped her gracefully, and the stardust settled on this enchanted runway to a round of applause, leaving couples with much to dream about for their own magical day.
