Head Over Heels - featuring Walking Tall
by By Ming Lee, 1 June 2007

While guests at a wedding are more likely to remember more attention-grabbing details such as a gorgeous gown or even a suit in a unique colour, the bridal couple are more often thankful for comfortable footwear.

This is especially since they spend most of the morning rushing from location to location for the ceremony, or much of the evening greeting and toasting friends and relatives.

But just as comfort remains an important factor when choosing shoes for your wedding, staying well-shod is also about increased confidence. And with brides slipping into their stilettos for that added height and elegance, it is little wonder that grooms can only look on from the side.

Walking Tall

All this is about to change, however. Grooms have been flocking to Walking Tall, a men’s shoe shop that stocks about 60 designs – each crafted to add height instantly. Every pair of shoes comes with hidden insoles of between 6am and 10cm, so grooms can appear taller and therefore more poised.

Walking TallSays Lee, who set up the shop in April 2006, “Most grooms are of average height – with some as tall as 1.80m – but they feel these shoes can enhance their physical appearance so they look better, especially when photographed. The best part is that these shoes add height instantly and discreetly due to their unique design.”

And while brides struggle with aching feet after a day on stilettos, Walking Tall’s hidden heels are designed to pamper the soles. For instance, the back of the shoe is made higher to provide a snug fit and prevent the shoe from slipping. Meanwhile, to avoid sores and aches, the elevation is also kept gentle. Plus, the shoes are made of genuine calf leather.

With prices starting at an affordable $89, grooms are strutting out of Walking Tall with pairs of hidden heels. Most of the formal range comes in black and brown, but Lee is planning to bring in designs in colours such as off-white.

“Our customers also like the trendy designs,” he adds. “Those in patent leather have been selling very well, as do those with stitching details. And with an additional range for business and casual footwear, men can now easily find a design whenever they need an extra bit of height, better posture – and confidence.”
