What To Do With Pet After Divorce?

If after divorce, what would you do if you can't afford to keep pet dog who have lived with you for more than 6 years? Anyone have encountered this issue and what was the solution?

hi Samantha,

if you do take up the suggestion, pls also grind milo for a glass of milo peng. Or add coco for a nice mug of chocolate latte.

heh.

ideally, complement it with additional incomes - otherwise, give it up for adoption to the right owner.

Maybe that's the case but i'm sure if that's her kid, she'll try her best to do something to "keep" the kid with her...

I just hope that she can understand that dogs have feelings too, they'll also feel terrible and upset if they know they're abandoned. Esp the dog has been with them for 6 years. We human have lots of frens but all your pet dog has is you. The dog has shared all ur joy and sad moments throughout the 6 years, they give you warm welcome without fail when u come home.

I just hope samantha can consider very carefully before making any decision regarding her pet dog.

If yr dog is too difficult to control or too aggressive, SPCA will never hesitate to put it down. Otherwise, they will still continue to wait. Also, if you have a pedigree dog, it's easier to find ppl to adopt.

Anyway, There are other ways/ places to put up for adoption, not necessarily at SPCA only

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments.

I wouldn't be asking this question here if I don't love my dog enough to want to find a good solution. And I wouldn't even consider letting her go if I have a choice.

My greatest wish is for someone who can provide her not only with shelter but with love. My worry is that given her age, no one will want to adopt her even though she's still very healthy and full of life.

I'm hoping that someone in this forum can point me to a right direction e.g. maybe you know a kind soul out there or a nice place that I can safely leave her at for the rest of her life. I'm willing to pay for her living expenses provided I know that she's in good hands.

if u've really decided to put ur furkid up for adoption, please give more info abt her, eg, breed, sterilised or not, toilet trained or not, photo, etc

btw there're many other channels whereby u can seek help regarding ur dog, many dog lovers will be able to give u more suggestions on ways to help ur dog...

After divorce I had put my dog in several different places, and at the same time planning hard for our reunion. In the last eight months he has been fostered at his groomer's shop, and had the company of the groomer's dog. I am paying for his accommodation, baths, food and grooming, and I take him out for walkies a couple of times a week. Sometimes I take him home for a few days when groomer isn't free.

I have never thought of putting him up for adoption because he is my first ever dog in life, and he's been through a lot with me. I have promised him that I will be with him till the end of times.

In about two months my new home will be ready and he and I will be truly reunited. I am so looking forward to that.

Samantha, I hope you won't give up on your dog so soon. You'll be surprised, there are still many kind people around who will lend a hand or an ear.

Hi Samantha, I personally would be devastated if I had to give my dog away. I believe our dogs will rather choose to stick through the tougher times with us than be separated.

I don't know how bad is your situation, but if you have the will to keep your dog, the means will naturally come. Agree with doLL, take a step at a time.

Ppl here just won't learn.

A dog would have stayed loyal and faithful, irrregardless whether the ppl who used to own the dog, had love the dog in return, so much as the dog had loved them.

And as ironic as it might seem. It was the same ppl who used to be it's owner who had really failed the dog rather than the other way round.

And the same ppl got the cheek to ask others, what to do with a dog after their divorce.

Ever thought about asking how the dog feel?

Do you have more information about your dog? Breed, habits, photos would be excellent. Please do not send to SPCA. The best solution would be to find a friend or relative to help. But if not, someone here would be second best.

Thomas, my dog had put up with so more than I did because of my divorce. At least I got my mom's home to go back to but not him. And since he has been such a darling I want to make sure that he will have the best last years by my side.

hey,

m i too late to post my comments for TS consideration?

TS, i kw it's hard to part with your pet especially she has been with you for the past 6 yrs

Since u mention tat u r willing to pay for her expenses, ve u consider putting her up at pet shelter?

I do know 1 in pasir ris which offers gd living condition and staff there r caring towards all the dogs which was boarded at their pet farm

Try calling mutts n mittens to find out d monthly boarding cost n do drop by to take a look at d environment and decide what is the next step 2 take
