Hi Anita! yes, i will keep my fingers crossed that Clara stays on. I wonder what is the issue with the hotel that they keep losing their events staff? But, dun be stressed okie. Sending you lotsa "good luck" dust!;-)

Hi Juzme1010! I was (past tense!!!) a Sentosa bride in April 09. I have lotsa positive comments so do read through them.

Hi PK!

yeah read the thread and saw that you are really happy with their service!

Your wedding coordinator was Clara?
Have u heard about sylvia chong and maria fillamay?? Would you know if they are good??

Hi Juzme1010!

Yes, Clara was our coordinator. We dealt with Clara throughout the preparations, leading up to our party in April.

I have no idea on Sylvia and Maria, not much help here.:)

hihi

anyone knows of any other co-ordinators besides Clara? Heard that she will be doing seminars and conferences, no more wedding events.

And the new consultant assinged to me - Zack, heard he left Carlton hotel with a really lousy reputation (pls refer to Carlton hotel's thread). My buddy was his client once and said that he was absolutely horrid too!

Am now looking to change to another wedding consultant...

think i am going to faint soon...

Hi, I am new to this thread..

Am having my dinner in Dec. Have anyone got any comments on Jane from Simply flowers. Her selections for the table settings seems pretty basic.

hey peeps! i am just back frm my wedding in Sep 09 and beaufort actually exceeded my expectations! i totally had a blast and some staff even went extra mile by leaving the bar open till abt 2am as we were still partying. the suite was just SO SO amazing! didnt want to leave and tried to convince my hb to stay another night. HAHA! clara was really fantastic , trying to accomodate us and offering us alternatives if our suggestions were not feasible. oh, i didnt know she's gonna focus on biz events. its such a pity i think she makes a great planner!

joules jane is a very good florist but she is very very expensive. apparently beaufort is not paying her much and she wanted to pull out but was convinced to stay on. we were quoted $75 for top ups (for each table ctrpiece) the tall arrangements are decent but the short arrangements were quite sad when she showed us the pictures. we decided to forgo the short arrangements and placed morroccan lamps instead.

Hi all,
Congratulations everybody!

My wedding is in 5 weeks. I am getting very nervous!

I didn't have any time to really compare the florists, I just went down to Simply Flowers (Jane) and decided with her.

Half low and half tall center pieces. I didn't top up any.

Rie, how is your planning so far? Which florist did your choose?

Hi Beaniebell!

Congrats too!
happy.gif

I didn't go with any of the florists that they provided because I felt they were very normal and if I were to top up, it would be really expensive.

I went for a florist that would be helping me with my church and the hotel banquet!

Which is your ballroom? Mine is the grand salon!

Hi Cola,

I have chosen the BBQ buffet for my wedding dinner. Cos i did hear that their western was better than their chinese spread. The food tasting was good. However, i do have to share that i am having Zack as my coordinator and he is very forgetful. Do note when dealing with him.

Anyone here looking at The Sentosa Grand Salon (20-26 tables) for 31 July 2010?

We paid a 30% deposit but now have to sell, as number of tables has increased beyond 26.

The date cannot be changed. If you are interested, we are willing to offer a discount on the price.

Pls leave me your email/ number or PM me!

Thanks!!

hi everyone! u can visit my blog to have a glimpse of the wedding dinner at sentosa resort and spa. i wouldnt have done it any other way. our table arrangement was different in the sense that the stage was in the middle instead of the usual front. the entire rm was super cozy and felt intimate. i didnt have such photos when i was planning and had a difficult time visualising so i hope i'm helping out the future brides out there.

btw, clara was such a darling!

Had our wedding at the grand salon couple of weeks ago.

Food was great. Our wedding coordinator was excellent, very efficient and prompt in her emails and replies.

Everything went pretty well, our main disappointment was the floral decor by Simply Flowers. Despite our top up for vip tables, the flowers were not fresh, Colors were dull.
We chose a mix of half tall and half low centerpieces for the rest of the tables. The tall vases floweres were pathetic, very little and done up very haphazardly, looked nothing like what she had shown us from her album.

Still, in all, its a great place for a resort style wedding!

Hi,
Did anyone had their soleminization done as well?
Any pix to share?
How abt the music? Did you use their music or your own collection?

I am still tinkig if we shd top up $300 for the complimentary deluxe room to the Junior Suite. Not sure if its worthwhile..

Hi Beanie,
Did you have any pix of the flowers you had to share?? I am not planning to pay for top up.

Thanks

Hi,
I just did my solemnisation and wedding together at the Grand salon. I used my own music for the solemnisation, my hubby complied all my fav music. We were very blessed to have good weather that day and my guests just loved the scenery.

If I may advised to all future brides if you have done your research and complied pics of the flowers and hand bouquet you like. You should go with Faye from Audrey Floral management. Her shopfront may not be impressive but she is very helpful and flexible. (Very very important!) she is very generous with her flowers and even hunt for me white peonies from new zealand even when its not in season. She charged me $150 for my hand bouquet (all imported flowers), when other places quoted me $250 the moment i asked for peonies!

you could download pics from martha stewart or any wedding online sites and show it to her. She will be able to advice you what is available or recommend you other options. Best part, you are able to customise you own table arrangement, unlike 'simply flowers' pre-set packages which put me off a little.

I hope this info will be helpful...if anyone needs any other information just ask..

Cheers

So Audrey Floral management is one of the 3 floral partners of The Sentosa Resort & Spa??

That's good, cos I've been reading not-too-good reviews about Simply Flowers.

U having your wedding soon @ the sentosa resort too??

I had zack as my wedding consultant, he advised me that they have 3 appointed florists:

1. Faye - Audrey Floral Management
2. Jane - Simply Flowers
3. June Florist

I met only Faye and Jane. I did not have chance to go down to June Florist as it was only later that they joined the list.

Well, i guess it depends on the individual. If you are clueless about flowers then I would say Jane is ok for you. Cos she is creative. She is a very nice lady, its just that they are not flexible with the table arrangement.

Faye has been doing The Sentosa Resort for a long time and she knows the place very well. If you have pics, she can copy like for like! She will just let you know if certain flowers are not available for the package. Which i think its fair enough. If i have some pics ready, i can show you what she did for my wedding.

Let me know if you need anything else... just wanted to share here cos i was so stress and clueless when i first started. ;p

No problem... glad to help, btw go check out stylemepretty website. it was very helpful and lots of images as well!

As for my co-ordinator, he is a very nice guy but not too sure if he has too many things on his plate, he was a bit forgetful. My sisters did however commented that he was very approachable and helpful on the actual day.

So you excited?? How far are your preparations already?

Hi all, its been very useful reading all your posts. I had a meeting today at the beaufort with Sylvia. I love the atmosphere of the resort even though my dad complained about the chinese menu not having shark's fin soup and garoupa fish. Its so difficult to get a good compromise so my question is if any of you know that the chinese banquet is reasonably good? And also if you can advise me on things I should definitely negotiate on that'll be great
happy.gif

Hi Anita, I envy that all your guests are so into dance! My fiance is australian, we've decided to do the dance party for the aussie guests only after dinner because we feel none of the chinese would join in. But we would do a first dance presentation in the middle of dinner just to amuse people. I'd like to know did the hotel actually arrange the dance floor for you or you have to pay extra to set up your own?

Thanks!!

Oh also did any of you do your solemnization at the terrace outside the Grand Salon or the grass patch area where you'd have to pay 1500? How do you feel about the terrace?

Thks!!

joules

New Member
Hi Liz,

I did my solemnisation outside the terrace. At first i wanted to do my solemnisation on the grass patch too but when i actually went down to the site itself, i realised that when the guest are sitted you dont get to see much sea scenery. Then we also realised with our wedding in Dec, we better have the terrace as it has a awning in case of rain. Moreover, i couldnt afford to pay an extra $1500. hahahaha. I overspent on everything else.

Oh ya.. tip on negotiation, if i am correct, aussies are big wine drinkers so try to ask for extra bottles per table anything else you have to pay corkage. Lots of my friends warned me that alchol beverages are hidden charges that you might have to pay extra depending on your guest drinking ability. so do look out for that.

Hi Joules, thanks so much for your reply and kind advises. I've overspent on everything else too its crazy, (just when I thought I'm not so particular about the wedding).. By the way did you know Zack the wedding consultant of beaufort said that if on the day itself no one booked the ginger room they would provide the grass patch area for free? Thought I'd let you know just in case. But ya..I find it strange to pay that kinda of money for an extra grass patch and I wonder if it makes any difference to the pictures. My fiance actually prefers it to the terrace. But I think the awning is a great point.

Thanks for your tip on the extra bottles! They were willing to waive 10 bottles of wine.. I shall bargain for more!

we actually wanted to do away with the stage in front and suggested having a dance flr in the middle. clara, our planner was very accomodating and she even threw in ideas. nope we did not have to pay a cent.

Thanks Anita! Sorry for the late reply, been extremely busy with xmas and ny here in sydney.

Everyone, I'm most probably gonna sign up for beaufort for our wedding in june 2010. At first was considering Amara as alternative because their chinese banquet menu seems better but after much discussion with my fiance we feel the beaufort has got a more cosy ballroom and Anita, seeing your wedding pictures really affirms our opinion about it!

Only two questions are:

1. should we go for chinese banquet or international buffet? If any of you can give us advise on that would be great. Our main concern is we're not sure if the chinese food is up to mark.

2. For those of you who went for international buffet, do you encounter problems like the frenzy of getting people seated so you can start the entertainment programs like dances or giving a speech? And also did the old folks and those with kids find it a hassle to go get the food themselves?

Your advises much appreciated! Thanks!!

hi everyone, new to this thread and seeking advice from those of you who have held or going to hold your wedding at Sentosa Resort & Spa..

am thinking of holding my upcoming wedding in dec in Sentosa resort & spa, but transportation is big consideration.is it difficult for guests to get to the venue? does the resort provide any form of shuttle bus etc? Also is it easy to bargain for extra perks from them?

hope to help your advice on the above, thanks thanks!!

sheep_in_sydney

New Member
Hi Yvon,

For me, transportation was surprisingly the last thing on my mind. Maybe cos my family assured me we can get a cheap shuttle as they have a few contacts. So I'm most probably hiring a bus to pick up people from the city. But I just written to Beaufort anyway to ask if they provide transport. Will let you know when they reply.

Sylvia was willing to waive 10 bottles corkage charges. In terms of other negotiations, I couldn't really get anything more. But if you're lookng to extend your hours maybe you can get them to do something about it.

By the way, are you going for bbq or chinese banquet?

Hey Anita, I'm actually considering dropping the whole chinese banquet and gong for the BBQ or international buffet. Did you go for the BBQ one? From your posts, i gather your guests enjoyed it?

And Cola, have you decided going for bbq or chinese? Just like someone's else's opinion. My father actually prefers banquet but my fiance (an aussie) and I really prefer a more relaxing sort of atmosphere.. headache man.. How did you come to decide this?

Thanks all, your advises appreciated!

sigh.. feeling so stressed about everything!

Hi liz, thanks for the sharing!=)

We are going down to meet for the very first time tm.. think we supposed to meet Zach tho Sylvia was the one who emailed us.. so ur coordinator is Sylvia?

Im going for the chinese one, cos my parents are the traditional type..so doubt they can accept anything else other than the conventional type..

So when is your AD? And urs is in which ballroom?
We are looking at the grand salon.. Actually we have yet to decide on Sentosa Resort & Spa, was thinking with the opening of resort world, will the island becomes very busy and hard to get to.. so thinking thinking.. but i really like the idea of holding it there!

sheep_in_sydney

New Member
Hi Yvon, not a problem!
happy.gif
..Actually my dad is also the conventional type but I thought he's already got two daughters who did a typical chinese buffet so I'll just tell him my fiance's family the aussies dare not eat the chinese dishes hahaha..which is actually true. Its such a stressful thing trying to please everyone.

What is AD? lol I still don't know a lot of these shortcut terms. Maybe you meant the big day? Its 12 June. I'm doing mine at Grand Salon and solemnisation at the terrace outside. I contacted the resort world a few days ago, their sat packages are very high in prices. If you like I can send you the pdfs. You probably would rather post me a private message with your email. If you post on the forum, you actually get quite a number of junk mails from people advertising their wedding businesses.. but you prob don't mind.

Oh fyi.. RW says they can customize sort of a theme wedding for individual couples, etc having cartoon characters or doing a performance at some of the fun sites. But these will be additional costs on top of your package.

Hi Liz, AD is actual day =)

we just met up with zach yest, and i love the place, especially terrace for mingling! And we managed to get the 10 bottles free cockage too! thanks for the heads up! =)

so how's ur preparation coming along? i just started and boy, there's so much information to digest..

sheep_in_sydney

Hi Yvon, you're welcome! That's great to hear. The ballroom is nicely tucked away isn't it. Only thing to note is there's a ginger room downstairs. They've promised me that noise level from an event happening on d same day will not travel up so keep fingers crossed.

Btw Zach said there'll be a complimentary shuttle bus from VIVO City to the Hotel for every half an hour and for Paragon a shuttle bus every 2hours to the Hotel. (not sure its and/or for these two locations)

My preparation ah.. been very stressful.. I really wanted a particular photographer, really like his style of photography. In fact was kinda prepared to delay the wedding date a week in order to book him. So .. a lot of stress trying to get everything coincide.. Also handling the costs now that we've decided to do bbq buffet which as you know is extremely expensive. And it doesn't help I'm planning everything from Sydney..

How about you? Everything coming along well? If you need recommendation for wholesale florist etc let me know.
happy.gif

...wonder if I'm gonna survive thru all these preparation..

Hi Hamlet, its good for you to join in a forum, you'll find it very useful and everyone has been very helpful sharing info.

Only thing is you have to know clearly about what you want and stick to it so you won't get confused like me.
happy.gif

I think BS stands for bridal shop? I went back SGP around last year June and shopped for a full day going to different shops and settled for something at the end of the day. What I did was a few weeks before look at all the bridal magazines from SG (my sister sends it to me) get an idea of the designs I liked then made appointments with the shops. Although this is judging from just one single dress in a single advertisement, when I visited the shops I found that it is pretty accurate to judge from just one cover.

Depends from which point you're looking at. Are you looking for quantity over quality? If so, a lot of them on tanjong pagar road or "the bridal shop" offers good packages that does everything (dress, CS, tea dress, photography etc). If you're looking at quality then you'll find those that made really good dresses, well designed ones are bit overpriced and don't cover everything in a package. I went for the latter. Because I opt not to do any pre-wedding shoots. Instead look for an extremely good photographer like Yu Shin (www.tinydotphotography.com) or Chris Woon (www.moretopurple.com) to do great pictures for the day itself. Mostly because I'm not the posing sort of person and australians don't usually do any pre-wedding shoots.

I went for an OTR at Silhouette the minute I saw a design I like. They are quite overpriced and are quite shrewd business people so at times I wondered if I made the right decision. At the same time I felt being based in Sydney, I don't think I can handle the stress of doing a MTM in Singapore. Visualizing a design that the shop proposed or even coming up with your own idea is no joke. Many things come into play such as the design you had in mind may not best suit you and I've heard of cases where there's communication breakdown with the shop or they didn't interpret correctly what the bride had in mind. In addition I did my CS with another shop, therefore my costs of everything don't come cheap. Be good for you to decide in the first place if you wanna stick to your budget or do a dress and CS you always dream of. If you're not particular about designs, you shouldn't have a problem of overspending (like me :p).

So what are you looking at? Quantity or quality? And why are you feeling lost?

As for Beaufort, Zach has been very helpful so far even though I called or email him many times he's always been patient. Looking at my budget and 80% of chinese guests.. I probably have to revert to doing chinese banquet. BBQ is just too expensive and a lot of the dishes I'm not sure if the chinese would like. So my aussie guests just have to suffer! I would most prob just change some of the dishes for them. How about you? Buffet / bbq or chinese banquet?

Stressful huh? Is your husband to be an aussie?

Sorry.. very long post this is!

nwatson

New Member
Hi Liz, thanks for the reply!

Yeah, my husband is an aussie. What about you?

Firstly, I have already bought my wedding dress here in Brisbane, and so one down and many more to go I reckon.

Actually, I am planning to do a pre wedding shoot but no with my actual day wedding dress, perhaps with my actual day dress alone, as my husband is superstitious that way.

The photographer side, I think the famous ones are too expensive for me as I feel that it's overpriced, so I have settled for a one that I have a good feel with, he's Andy Loh. Prices are fairly reasonable and I do like his works.

I have kinda settled for that two, now the part that is making me lost is, since I have kinda decided to do ala cart, I am concern about my groom's suit (should I make it? and how much does it cost? or should I just rent it) and the best mens, and my bridesmaid dresses! Should they pay or should I pay? The wedding car, the bouquet, corsages.

So, if I sign up with the BS, are they able to offer me those stuff at a reasonable price, as I do not intend to take up the PS and wedding gown, which I think that they make their $$ from those stuff...

Can't wait to see how Beaufort looks. I only have approx 70 - 80 guests and I hope that they can allow for 80 as their ginger room's max capacity is 70.

It's nice chatting with u liz!

sheep_in_sydney

New Member
Hi Hamlet! Thanks, its good chatting with you too! As you can see, I posted my reply pretty fast.. I'm pretty much online most the time to settle all these planning and research..

My fiance is aussie too. And he's particular about not seeing the dress as well but because I've no friends here to help shop for the dress and in singapore they were too busy to help me, he's the only one who accompanied me and no choice he saw it. So I'm keeping the CS as a surprise for him

Its good you've settled on your dress and photographer. A few suggestions for the rest of your concerns:

1. Groom's suit: My fiance's friend custom made one at Kelly Country for $300. Their prices are economical. But I don't know if there's one in Brisbane.

2. Best mens bridesmaids: By aussie standard, we're supposed to pay for their suits and dresses. For the men, we plan to rent. For bridesmaid, do you require all of them to wear the same sort of dress? If not, suggest they wear anything they like but with similar colour theme. That will save you money. A friend of mine did this and was really cute, white and pink theme, some wear pink stockings, others pink ribbons, or just the top and so on. For me I just require they wear a similar colour theme so they're gonna get something they will wear again and I plan to just give them red packet. Deciding colours of their dresses is another difficult thing to do as you need to know the colour of the floral decor at the event so that everything kinda goes. I'm going thru this trouble now.

Wedding car, bouquet and corsages:
Instead of going to BS, as they normally offer very cheap flowers (but charge you at a higher price for whole package), maybe you like to go to a florist? A friend recommended a florist who can get wholesale flowers and therefore charges 30% cheaper than a commercial one:

Its a shame she's not able to do for me as she happens to be away mid june.

I think you'll love the ginger room

.. I've about 200 so gotta stick to the Grand Salon. How did you come to the conclusion of going with Beaufort instead of places like Raffles?

By the way are you going for chinese banquet or international buffet?

vonxy

New Member
Hey liz, guess what Yu Shin was one of my shortlisted photographer too! Tho i think he's a bit pricey.. so will see how it goes..

And Silhouette is also one of my shortlisted BS, but i agree with you they are a bit expensive so still evaluating my options...like you im going for OTR too, i think i dun want to subject myself to too much stress over how the gown will turn out to be.. i have heard some brides had to discard their MTM gowns cos it din turn out the way it shld, and then had to opt for a OTR..

so you going for the chinese banquet?

nwatson

Hi Liz,

I am exactly on the same boat as u! I have no friends here as well, and surprisingly my fiancé was the one that accompanied me to the wedding gown shop but of course he saw me in the dresses so he can't really remember which dress is which. I don't intend to wear CS but instead a Kua n him the male version.

The reason why i ddnt choose raffles is because I didn't like the coordinator attitude n they charge to use the garden if I m not wrong. I have narrowed down my choice to Fullerton and beaufort but more toward beaufort as my min pax is only 60-80 n I m expecting people to back out from it last min so making it say 70.

Will have a look at the places this feb n we've got to decide by then. Am planning to take up the Chinese banquet as majority of my guest is Chinese only his parents n brother is Aussie.

Just a add in: I do want my bridesmaid to wear the same, so I m deciding if I should just order it from eBay n get it sent over to them so they have time to alter them. As for the best men, they would rent the suits n I will supply the ties.

Liz, u were saying about a place to custom
make the suit, care to tell me the place n for $300 was it a very simple suit n was it good quality?

Hi Yvon, haha what a coincidence. You know with Yu Shin, he's so popular you have to book him 1 to 2 years in advance. I was lucky he happened to be free that week in June. He took one of my friend's wedd pics and I like it a lot. His pictures have a good range of variety, you see less of a typical pattern in the style.

Exactly, no point subjecting ourselves to so much stress over MTM (i heard of many horrid stories bout mtm too) For me I think I didn't have much of a choice but to go with Silhouette as I didn't find any dress I like anywhere else.. kinda fussy.

Yes I most probably be going for chinese banquet "sweet serenity" package. Or the cheaper one which has no big shot dishes.. Though so many people said they're better at buffets.. I've no choice but to think of cost and red packets people would give since I already blown my budget going for beaufort and the aussie guests don't really give big angbaos one... Are you going to upgrade your floral decoration with one of their vendors?

Hi Hamlet,

Ah guess finding friends in Australia's not easy. Esp if you didn't study here before. Which part of Brisbane you at? Its cool your hubby is wearing a male version of Kua, may I ask where you get it made? I had the idea of my fiance wearing one but plain colour. Just not sure his beer belly can accomodate it.

Yes Raffles charges about 2k for the garden! Fullerton is esp expensive on a weekend if your guests number is small.

Be careful about ordering from eBay because the quality could look very different from pics online but if the buyer has good reputation, its a good idea.
happy.gif
As long as alteration fees don't cost too much.

The place to custom made suits is KELLY COUNTRY (http://www.kellycountry.net.au), have a look at the location, I don't think brisbane has one. Maybe you can call kelly country to enquire prices and drop by Sydney if you're really interested. I remember the groom had a pretty simple suit. He looks presentable but I didn't go up close to touch his fabric..lol.. so I'm not sure about the fabric quality

Hi Liz,

I am just going to hire from this lady, it's called The Red Wedding, go have a look, they charge reasonable for the rentals. (www.theredwedding.com) I am going to rent it from her. I will let u know how it goes when I get back from visiting her.

I think it's ridiculous that they raffles is charging 2k just for the rental of the garden which would only b an hr or so. It's not worth the cost, at least for me. with 2k I probably can do with lots of other stuffs.

I do agree with u about the quality, coz I realise that all of the pictures are copied from somewhere else, all from china, which I feel kinda reluctant to purchase from but they do offer affordable prices.

I will go have a look at kelly country when my partner flies down to sydney for business, i might tag along.
