Tea ceremony

Heard that both bride's mother and father have to give groom a red packet or a ring each. Is that so? My mum usually gives a rimg and my dad wont prepare anything...worried that the groom's parents would mind... does anyone know?

Usually the parents (and relatives) from both sides will prepare red packets to give to the couple after they've been served tea. Some may give jewellery instead of red packets. Maybe can just gently hint it to your dad? After all, the red packet is just a token - the sum of money inside doesn't have to be an extravagant amount and your in-laws also won't know how much is inside... Oh, btw, if you or your SO have got siblings, after you're done serving tea to your/his parents and relatives, the siblings will then have to serve you guys tea as well and you'll then need to give them red packets too so make sure to have some ready in your SO's suit pockets! ;)
