If you're talking about background music for a reception buffet, I would suggest jazz music or even some easy-listening oldies. it really depends on what you like and your reception setting/theme.
I helped organize my friend's ROM, she had an buffet reception at the beach and I chose a mixture of oldies (Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald etc) and jazz music (Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Michael Buble etc). The guests who paid attention to the music said they enjoyed it, and and those who didn't could converse and mingle without the music being too disruptive.

Also, I would suggest you prepare about 50 songs for a 3-hr reception...20 seems too few - assuming each song is about 3-4 mins you'll be repeating the same songs after an hour.

anyway, feel free to let me know if i can help. I'm not v familiar with chinese music but can help you with most genres of english and some instrumental music.
