Silhouette the Atelier

Hi Marian, thanks!! For all I knew I might not find another dress I like better.. sigh geez..

dyeann, thank you! They haven't started work, only problem is they put aside the dress for 3 months plus now.. My fiance is a caucasian.. typical aussie who insists they can't see d bride in the wedd dress type. So I would have to choose the dress on my own.

pinkglove, I'll send you the pic soon. I can only go back around mid April. sigh..

Thanks all of you, glad to get some mental support from you girls, feel better now even if they won't change it in the end. All these stress over a wedd..

Oh pinkgloves, your account doesn't accept messages.

Seems like most of you are getting OTR. Are they mostly new? They told me mine hasn't been rented before.

@stressed sheep: the name OTR seems to be a bit of a misnomer at Silhouette. from what i could gather from my visit to the amoy st. branch, the gowns are OTR in the sense that most of them (basic style, materials etc.) are already pre-made and hanging in the store. they are certainly modifiable (neckline, silhouettes, train length, more lace/more bling) but the basics are all there.

also, something that was never made clear was whether or not the gowns would be rented again after i used it. from what i understood, it was a no. so you will be the only bride wearing it. (where do all the used gowns go then? i have no idea. a gown graveyard somewhere, i presume.)

did anyone ask how much it costs to top up if we want to keep the EG?

Hi Ailin and li, that's interesting. I wish they're more consistent in their information offered to customers. Only thing I heard from them was they try to sell the dresses rather than rent by offering to top up just 500 dollars to own.

i think the amount to top up to keep the gown depends on what kind of gown you're going to MTM...how much details and beading and crystals...

hi stressed sheep, replied u with my email =)

Ahm, my's OTR but it's a new piece as well, no one has worn it before. and ya, the amt to top up really depends on the type of gown u wanna keep..

Hi guys, Silhouette assures that they do tell their customers consistently if the dresses have been rented before or if they're new. They said normally they try to phase out designs as soon as they can so they can do new ones as the designers get tired of the same thing too. Old designs are sold overseas.

hi ladies, im love tulle ball gowns too and is looking for BS that does overseas shoots, does SIL do ala carte or travels with clients overseas for PS?

would appreciate if someone can share their package with me. Thanks!

hi brides .. i had a choice between the gown (that drew me to Silhouette, but it was used once before) and another one which is OTR but brand new piece. gown #1 (which i chose eventually), i want to change the bottom to a plain one so instead of topping up $800 i top up $200. If i stuck with the original bottom, because of the condition, they were willing to charge only $500 for top up cause there were armpit stains which kenji assured me they'll be able to clean off. *i know it's gross*

gown #2, because it wasn't in my size, i can't really imagine how it really looks on me so in the end i still opt for the gown that attracted me to silhouette.

i think they will be upfront to tell you whether the gown you picked is new or not. You can tell from the condition of the skirt or bodice as well.

Lissy>they do tie ups with photographers if you want recommendation. the photographers themselves have MUA contacts overseas or local ones which will be "shared" by the few couples going on the trip together.

dyeann, thanks for replying! does the photographers usually give a discount on their packages upon hearing the BTB is from SIL?

do i have to make an appointment with kenji or just go down to their studio directly?

Lissy> mine was for promotion so they had those basic pre wedding shoot pkg for like $800++ and there's like 4 - 5 photograhy studios to choose. but the number of shot differs and some require topup of $$ to get the coffee table book album etc.

best to make appt with kenji and then have a chat with him see if he knows of photographers to recommend. i think silhouette works with one of the PG for their advertorial also.

pinkglove i'm not very sure though. the pic Pearl shared with us i think she took it during one of her fitting with the trial makeup? i suppose we can take when it's the booked / finalised gown hmm.

Hi Pinkglove: Thanks for sharing.. I haven't really have a AD yet but will properly do it ard Oct-Dec. Date will be only confirm by this week. I prefer Satin material. I tried one tulle ball gown looks very princess like and lots of blink blink.. The designer said i can either change the top or bottom by adding extra charges from $200-$800.. But i'm more comfortable with Satin gown. I will probably drop by Ted Wu, TWP and Dang sometime next week. And SIL's KUA doesn't really looks nice. Anyway, from there then i guess i will able to decide which BS i will sign up with. I prefer Kevin Lim from portraits. He's really good. I was served by another designer when i went to Amoy branch,,She's really friendly and im comfortable with her.

Dyeann: Thanks for the sharing..Mine was about close to $5k. Excluding the bling bling and the top up if i choose to add on stuff..EG is MTM (rental). The rental for EG is abt $600..No renting for EG. And package includes photography.

Liz Stressed sheep> Hi! Im quoted close to $5k.. including pre wedding photography, flowers, Hair and make-up service, WG OTR, EG MTM (rental) and man suite.. You have already sign up with SIL already? My fiance is a caucasian too but i insist that we have to take pre-wedding photography. So he will see me in gown when we take the pre wedding pics defore the AD..I was told by my friend too that he's fiance can't see her in her WG until the AD. Why is that so?? I recommend you Kelvin Lim by portrait. He's good.

Jasmine,
my fiance won't be seeing my wedding dress until the day itself...hehehe...i guess it's more of an element of surprise...it's nice to see their faces when they see you wear the wedding gown :D

jasmine> i thought of doing the same as well and keep the WG as a surprise from my htb but i love the sil gown so much thought it's such a pity to pay so much and not get any shots of it in the pre wedding shoot. some brides do buy spare gowns for photoshoot and you can see the post in the marketplae thread

for satin gotta be extra careful cause it creases pretty easily so when you do sit remember to adjust your skirting. did you go check out bridal veil at delfi orchard? they work alot with duchess satin gowns but her price starts from 5k+ to 7K onwards i think?

dyeann - agree! It's too exp for me to just wear it once on the AD.. I simply have to take my pre wedding shots in the gown I love so much... hehe.. and my fiance's a very picky person.. I'm afraid the gown I like may not be wat he like.. end up the surprise becomes shock.. so it's best he choose the gown with me..hehe

babymarian, was curious what do you wear during your photoshoot if your fiance only get to see the wedding gown on your actual day?

pinkglove> i went to silhouette just now and asked about the photo thing since i also need to send a picture of me in my gown to my MUA overseas, kenji says once we confirmed the gown and go for our first fitting we can take the photo.

lissy> i asked kenji too about ur photographer pkg question. he says there's a few but you might need to call the PG to check on the details of the promotion cause he cannot remember. But if you mention you are referred from Silhouette, they will have the tie-in prices as opposed to walk-ins.

jasmine> today i was told based on the pkg + photography, it's 5.7K O.O think they had a price hike man

dyeann, thank u for asking kenji for me.

i sent an enquiry to lightedpixels and they mentioned they do link-up with SIL, but their package are for local shoots only, but im keen in overseas shoot. anyway, i finally made an appointment to meet kenji this evening to clear all my doubts.

marian, how much did u spent on the separate shoot in taiwan? i thought of signing up a separate one for an overseas shoot too. but worry fiance will kill me.

lissy> there's alot of pple selling their pkgs in the marketplace for overseas shoot pkg. i saw my HK colleague's photos they took in Taiwan but that PG don't have an office for SG. the average costs are about 2K - 3K depending the number of photos you want?

dyeann & marian, thanks for the info. 3k is a reasonable sum as compared to some photographer's sky high rates.

btw, how many suits are your HTBs having on AD? i imagine him in tuxedo and another all white suit. but seems like i need to top up again.
sad.gif

Lissy,
my fiance will be wearing one tuxedo only for AD...the only difference is he will be wearing a bow tie first...then will be changing to a skinny tie...hehehe...

marian, is the tuxedo for him to keep or rent only? sigh. seems i will only get to see him in 1 suit instead of 2.

lucky im not a man. keke.

Lissy,
the tuxedo is for him to keep...
maybe you can negotiate with them to rent another suit?
hehehe...yup...i totally agree :D even their hairstyle cannot be changed...

lissy> my package is almost ala carte since i'm only taking the gowns and AD makeup. my htb wants to make his suit at the tailors in peninsula. you might want to check out there too as it's about $300-$400 to make a decent suit there.

we decided not to take suit from Sil after some considerations.

dyeann, wat were the considerations when u were thinking of whether to take the suit from Sil or find ur own tailor?

My fiance also wearing only one set of suit.. and mine is also for keeps.

marian, ok. i'll try to check out if they can rent another suit later.

dyeann, thanks! will check out the tailors if SIL one's are at sky high prices.

but have any of you tried renting tuxedos? cos im not sure when will be the next time he can have a chance wear them again after the wedding? maybe our children's wedding. keke!

pinkglove> based on feedback, photos of the men's suit n designs, we decided we'll look for our own tailor instead of getting the suit from them. but it boils down alot to individual preference. my htb is a bit fussy about his expectations. i think i don't want to take the chance to have the suit turn out differently from his expectations and he'll be very unhappy later.

thanks dyeann, will look out for the shop at FEP!

btw, im back from silhouette! had fun trying on the gowns and discussing what type of designs im looking at. yes, kenji is not pushy at all. i've received the package details and it stated that this package im receiving is a promotion and only valid till 31 Jan, which is Sunday. however, im still hesitating if i should have a look at other BS before deciding?

Can any kind ladies send me your package details for my comparision? many many thanks!

lissy .. abit late but i did post my pkg details from the wedding show promo i think back nov? anywys their items are pretty standard. basic gowns + 1 groom's suit + the flowers for actual day is the usual 4.7K top up required for changing the gown's top or bottomw and can range from $200 to $800 or more.

Marian > Thanks for sharing... I went to SIL again at Amoy street.. I really love the gown. But then when i went to Ted Wu and Dang , i was speechless! Of coz there was a price difference. However, SIL is one of my choice even though i haven't really decide yet.. Have you pick your gown yet??

Jasmine,
hmmm...if you're MTM-ing your gowns, you can request your designer at silhouette to incorporate some designs that you like from the ted wu/dang gowns...
i also fell in love with tan yoong gowns but then he couldn't create the dramatic big tulle effect i wanted...so for both my wedding and evening gowns, i asked Minda to help me design my gowns using some of his gown ideas...but of course Minda had to add in some of her designs and ideas as well, if not it will look like we are plagiarizing his gowns...hehehe...

Marian> Yeah! i like your idea! Sounds great! I went the Wedding present today.. They have nice gown too .. Im tied between SIL and The wedding present. SIL doesn't tied up with the photography studio that i wanted. But i really like one of the ball gown. The wedding present provides more stuff and nice KUA. Sigh...

jasmine, i think TWP also got very nice ball gown? did you ask them to show you. price wise i think they are pretty close though.

jasmine,
must take your time to decide...must make sure that you can get along very well with the designer and that he/she will be able to deliver a gown that you will love a lot
happy.gif

marian> so have you seen your MTM gowns yet? my fitting's on 5th March not sure what i'm suppose to bring though.

jasmine> i always think if can save money hah. if both places have gowns you like, might as well go for the one that you get the most out of the pkg for the same price you are paying. i heard TWP package is alot better than silhouette?

dyeann,
nope, i haven't seen my gowns...my first fitting will be on september 30th...
i think maybe bring the shoes you will be wearing with your wedding gown...and hair accessories and jewelery that you will be wearing with the gown as well...maybe can also bring photos of the hairstyles you would like to match with the gowns...then i think your designer can give you opinions on all of those
happy.gif

those would probably be what i'll be bringing for my first fitting...hehehe...
