hi

i've ROM-ed & held a simple lunch @ Yum Cha.

tho my lunch only 1 table but we insisted on getting a VIP room lor.

cant remember how much liao.. less than $400 b4 GST.
Think mayb u'd like to call them & ask them email u the menu & price lor.

Foodwise.. i say 90%
Atmostphere... 70%

I'm oso having 1 table only...they'll oso be giving me the VIP rm...haven't asked for the menu yet though cos I trust the food's gd cos my bro had his ROM there in Apr...he had 5 tables...the deco was nicely done up as well...jus wondering if any1 else had their ROM there besides my bro n I cos I initially tot it wasn't popular for a ROM venue...

went to yum cha last sat and spoke to their manager Mr Tan. quite a friendly guy who give us lots of suggestions.
they are very flexible with customization of menue to match my request. can consider for their food...but ..problem is place is a bit cramp. and no stage...

i tink besides the location... u can consider yum cha for ROM venue bah.

to me.. most impt is the food for the guests, followed by location.

since the food is not bad & seems kinda creative compared with other restaurants.

OinkOink, I've yet to confirm my menu wif them thus no package to share yet...sry...

Cynthia Tan, yup...Mr. Tan is a v.frenly guy...he's v.flexible as well...there r 2 VIP rms...a small one which can fit 2 tables n a bigger one which my bro had in April...he had 5 tables + a solemnization table which they did up v.nicely...u may wish to view his solemnization table set up here...as its only solemnization I feel tat a stage is nt tat important as long as there's ample space for guests...the guests were able to gather arnd the solemnization table to view the exchange of vows despite of the 5 tables my bro had...for me I'll only have a table so I guess I'll most prob be using the small VIP rm...will go into further discussion wif Mr.Tan nearing my ROM date which is in Feb 07...

Ivy, agree wif u...food is important n provided the atmosphere is nt bad too...

elchwong,
good luck to your ROM.

Hi elchwong,

can you send me more pics too. hv been thinking of YC too for ROM. Mr Tan is indeed friendly as I hv spoken to him too.

Am currently waiting for Mr.Tan to get back to me about the menu...wonder hw it goes...anyone here who already ROMed n willing to share their menu?

hi von,
you may speak to the manager in charge, he has some photos to show.
but be prepared for their poor sound proof room.

Hi Everybody,
Did you all pay $100 charge for the Private room?
And how is the dirnk charge at is it included in the menu? Please give me some advice, thank you.

Hi,

I just went with my girfriend to so called food tasting for their tim sum, we pretty like it. The setup is pretty nice too, with precious moment figuring on the table. Mr Tan is very friendly and fexible too, spoken to him over the phone.

My bf n i decided to go for their tim sum buffet, it comes with chinese tea only. You can top up $30 per table for free flow of soft drinks or $1.80 per can. For tim sum buffet, i need to pay the charges for the private room.

i had my ROM there on 25 Jun during lunchtime.
it was a monday so it wasnt very crowded and noisy, kinda like having our own pte function.
food & service was good.

Charmaine,
ur ROM with yumcha cost how much ? Care to share?
I am wondering, can they provide laptop, projector and screen? Haha

Hi tian lye,

I didn't see any laptop or projector or screen in the private room. Maybe you can check it out with the manager. I'm opting for their tim sum buffet. Appx $20 per pax inclusive of taxes. plus top up to use their private room. I went there to try their tim sum buffet on a fri afternoon, pretty good. The manager say he will arrange 1-2 gals station in the private room to serve us. The soleminzation setup is nice. http://yumcha.com.sg/High_Tea1.html

Hi Charmaine,
do you think the place is good enough for photo taking? I am thinking of taking a photography package that include 80 pics. So is wondering YUm Cha is good enough to take that much photo

i find yum char too cramp...not much nice spots to take nice pictures unless you wan to take pictures along the old shop houses in chinatown after the event?

Hihi... just had my ROM at Yum Cha...
food and service really 2 thumbs up...!!

Requested for red table cloth... and also love the basket ring holder...!!

Tian Lye: Yes i do agree that there isnt any place to take nice pic... I also engage a photographer, and wat i did was asked him to go else where for photo taking after the lunch.. and he is ok with it... maybe u might wanna try.
Me chose Mount Faber and Sentosa, as it is near Yum Cha. =)

Hi Esttie, did you upload the photo, care to share, i also thinking of what to take in Yum Cha, cause the private room was kind of plain, we thinking of deco it but no actual plans yet thou but still i doubt can take many many photo in that small venue.

How much is yr photographer?

I was thinking of taking ard the chinatown shop houses and maybe around esplanade area. Didn't know mount faber n sentosa is near Yum Cha too.

Hi Charmaine,

i paid $250 for the photographer.. for about 4 hours of service... a min ablum will given and also all the soft copies... hope everything looks ok.. =)

Wat time is your ROM? if afternoon... Chinatown there might be a bit crowded...

Hi Esttie,
I think the photography package only include 2 hrs. I am not sure what to do. I mean the high tea will last till around 6pm.
Can you post the pictures or email me at [email protected]
Also, what was the schedule for your ROM and you managed to move to Mount Faber and Sentosa with all the guest having food and stuffs?

hi, is the private room use for both solemnization and dining? or dining had to be done outside? I'm only requiring 2 tables.

Hi Ryan,

the bigger private room can be used for both solemnization and dining. just let them noe. u from the JW july balloting thread too? thot i recognise ur nick from there.

Lin

Hi, the S$100 is for table set up & not for pte room charges.
happy.gif
I would say the food wise 6/10 only.... but the price wise 9/10... very cheap.

Lazy bug,

u sure the food only 6/10? have u booked Yum Cha before? If it's only 6/10 den why would u book it? so far i've heard good comments on the food so aft seeing ur comments i'm abit afraid. I've booked the place for my ROM, u see.

Lin

Hi All,

I was planning to have ROM @ yum cha with buffet tim sum next year (prob june).
But i really don't know where to start.
How your get the JP?

Maybe somebody here could advise me.

Many thanks.
Have good day.

Hi Lin,

Yes. I am from the JW balloting forum too. Hee hee.. I had booked my ROM for Jan08 already. Got the bigger room for both ROM and meal.

Pinglim,

You kick off correctly. First you need to confirm the date and time and the venue of your ROM. Next you have to find a licensed Solemniser, no need to be a JP. You can get grassroot leaders too. Check ROM website for the list of licensed solemniser and call up them. You will have to fax a consent form to the solemniser and he/she will fax back to you acknowledging that your invitation is accepted.

After you got all above, you can start to efile @ ROM website. Pls note the earliest you can rom is on the 22nd day after you e-file, up to max 3 months timeframe.

They will need you to travel down to the ROM building to submit the documents required about 3 days prior to your actual ROM date. The date and time will be given to you after you efile.

Hope that helps.

Hi Ryan,
when is your day? Mine's on 1st Jan. Me booked the bigger room too, for both the ceremony and for 3 tables. Must share the nice pics here when everything's over k? I know I will. Hee... and good luck with ur house too. me still in the midst of "designing" it.

Lin

Hi Lin,

Which blk did you get? I'm shortlisting 7 or 8 ID but i have not approached them yet. I think i will do it after my ROM and CNY.

I have a question, how early are the CNY shops along chinatown set up? My ROM is 3 weeks before the CNY and i hope they don't set up too early. Crowd should not be a big problem because mine is on a weekday afternoon but i didn't like the temp. shops set up, also i don't think cars can drive into temple. st.

i took the YS flat cos near my parents. i decide to engage my uncle to renovate the flat but cos he's a contractor and not an ID so got to design myself. i got quotes from 1 or 2 ID liao but in the end still decide to save and go for contractor cos AD at end of next yr.
Hmm.. about the CNY shops i not too sure. but u got to be prepared tt they will be there on ur rom day cos ur rom day is quite close to the CNY. mine is jus 2 days away from now. jus enjoy urself on tt day and dun worry too much ba.

Lin

are you going to do any decoratives in the private room on the day? i'm not sure how it will look like on the actual day, are they just going to pull in the tables and that's it? When the room is not in use, it appears like a store room because i took a look at it before paying the $100 deposits. Hee hee

hi ryan.. im frm jw theard too.. haha i got my rom at yum cha too... 2 tables.. worst of all they forget to place the Solemnization Table in the vip room i book.. i got to go all the way n ask them twice for the table to move over frm the small room... over all i got the lobster menu 388 .. everyone drink tea.. my bill cost 1099.. -_-" food 7/10 not really very nice accord to my cantonese family. price too ex.. i might as well book poney jade haha or tong le.. so much beta.. but after all rom only once lah.. still regret the choice i choose

anyway.. the day i rom.. got a "ah pek" doing street performance dwnstair.. can hear he sing when i doing the signing... haha. n just park at the car park beside it will do... walk oni 5 min its sooo near... anyway u k drive in.. cos we park our car just beside the entrance

oh ya... remember to call them up twicw... wah piang everyting must go twice.. payment twice, ask them move in table twice, remind them changing in timing twice.. and asking to serve dish twice haha... we actually book a table @5pm.. decided to change to 7pm... somehw gt a feeling scare they will forget .. so i call up 2 days before and den "they really never change the time for me...so did a last min change.. lucky no ppl book if nt die ah the manager thr was very nice.. but service wasnt wad i expected
