Mandarin Orchard Singapore

I like the location of MM and the fact that it's a 5 stars hotel and many good reviews. However, read earlier post that MM is undergoing renovation and not taking banquet for 2008. There's no info on their website either. Page can't be found.

HI Kelvin,

Lunch at MM is not much different from the dinner, overall food was quite okay (wouldn't say fantastic but different ppl different taste)

As for services, the staff are great generally. I wasn't at the dining area half the time, but I do notice that the staff all quite 'smart' and know 'what to do when things happen' and not "just serve and that's it" attitude.

but i have heard of complaints from my guests (same table) that one waitress massacared their steam garoupa. =p

i think most hotels in Singapore are not halal certified as they serve liquor and wine. however, their food source is usually from hala source. or if they serve halal muslim food, u can ask them whether it comes from halal source. maybe that can give assurance to muslim guests.

Hi gals, I have signed up the package with them for weekends during January. 3days before the increment in price. Very lucky. The person who attended me is Doreen. Quite pleasant except she is not fluent in her Chinese. Thus she will sulked when she can't express herself when talking to my FIL. I read the forum and they talked about bargaining for 1extra night stay and I tried and succeed. So for those who wish to sign up with MM, you can bargain for additional night stay in ur suite room!

mine not successful too

aint able to enjoy the facilities after the AD day! sure will be dropped dead tired when the event end..

anyone intendin to take their black & red color theme? the very mandarin theme hee..i like it v much.. But then aint able to take that theme.

Just got a note from the coordinator that MM is scheduled for redevelopment and will not be taking bookings for AD held from 1 March 2008 onwards.

For brides who wish to hold their weddings before then can still check on the availability of ballrooms.

hi everyone

I've booked the Belvedere.. Any idea what are the colors/ themes for the wedding dinner? Someone asked me today and i was like..."Errrr". Totally clueless! Oh, my AD is coming up in December 07.

LoveMe,
I've gone down to view the linens for the banquet.

There's a red and black theme, black and white theme, bronze, etc. It's actually up to us to choose whichever colors/combination. I actually like the bronze colored linens.

Hi tanjanne, thanks for the infor! Hows bronze linen look like? My gown will be light pink and silver. So what should be my deco be like? Dark colours? Or light colour?

LoveMe, sorrie... I not so good in colors... so erm, not able to suggest or recommend.

The bronze was like a darker version of old gold. Looks quite nice, actually.

Btw, the banquet manager says the linens' colors should be quite safe if my evening gown is light in color (mine's peachy pink!).

tink MM doesnt have much problem with matching colors. As they have quite a number of theme to choose with.. unlike i went to few hotels, they only have a few theme to choose only. So tink it's not gg to be an issue

Hi Jas and Ling,
MM no package for 2008. they are gg to close down for 1 yr for renovation from mar 2008, hence their package for jan and feb 2008 is same as this yr. for weekend its 788+++ now.

I think u prob wont want to rush as feb is jus 10 mths away?? The ballroom is really nice...and I heard the food's is really good....

Hope the info is useful! Happy planning!

Hello All,

Was wondering if anyone knows what favours MM has for the next few months ? My wedding is in June but I have no idea what they have..

Hi nevermyne,

Viewed MM favours one month ago. What I can recall
- chocolates in organza pouch (1 white, 1 dark)
- tea cake in rectangular box
- handphone strap in pillow box
- etc

My advise, approach your MM coordinator to send you the favour photos.

Hi!

My wedding will b in 6 mth's time. Anyone can share if i need to contact my co-ordinator regarding the invitation cards, favours, choosing of flowers/deco/theme, food tasting, etc?

Has any BTB buy ur own favours and ask MM to deduct the cost of their in-hse favours from the banquet price?

Wedding Dinner: Meritus Mandarin (Belvedere) on 31st Dec 2006.

Overall Comment:
A wedding dinner that went very well, with ONLY good comments on the service and food from the guests.

1. Wedding Coordinator - Jesmi Tan
Due to personal reason (not due to pregnancy :P), I only booked the function room one month + before my wedding. Jesmi had been very understanding throughout the negotiation process. Once the contract was signed, Jesmi immediately got to work (due to time constraints) and settled several of the details on the spot such as the theme, the color for the table cloths, the flowers, the wedding favours etc. Jesmi had been very responsive on emails and phone calls. One thing I am extremely impressed with her is that she ensured that work gets done immediately.

2. Banquet Coordinator – Wai Seng
Wai Seng had been very helpful, ensuring the banquet went smoothly. At the very last minute before the banquet starts, there was a need to add more seats, Wai Seng ensured all got done within minutes. Food was sent to the bridal suite as promised and Wai Seng liased very well with my coordinator. During the table to table toasting, Wai Seng made sure me and my husband and my parents in law had a glass of wine ready (I went to other hotels where we have to remind the waiters to provide the wine to the couple during the table to table toasting).

3. Services
I got SEVERAL compliments on the excellent service provided by the waiters and waitresses. One example provided by my colleague was that the waiter will make sure that the soft drinks ordered by the ladies had a straw whereas soft drinks ordered by men do not have a straw. My guests felt that they are VIP at the dinner.

4. Food
So far, I never got a bad comment on the food. In fact, all my guests are EXTREMELY impressed with the food. Their comment was food was fresh and tasty and they “force†themselves to eat even though they are full cos the food was just too nice. Most surprising was my halal colleagues commented that this was the best Halal food (including desserts) they have ever eaten in a wedding dinner

5. Bridal Suite
We got a Bridal Suite on the 23rd (I think is 23rd if my memory doesn’t fail me). Bridal Suite is extremely big – 1 room is the living room and the other room is the bed room. Only disappointment is that it feels like a VIP room, does not feel like a Bridal Room. The Bridal Room is not decorated to give the kind of Bridal Feeling. Surprisingly the TV in the Bridal Suite is a small CCTV whereas my guests stayed in Superior Room with a LCD.

6. Hiccups
a) Food at the Food Tasting was not very good. I remembered Fish was not fresh. I feedbacked to Jesmi who gives me the assurance that food on the actual day will be of highest quality which is true (see point 4).
b) Wedding Favours – After the wedding, some of my guests came up to me and said that they did not have the wedding favors on their table. We weren’t sure if someone had stolen theirs or no wedding favors were placed on their table (entire table). Anyway I feedbacked to Jesmi and she immediately without questions provide extra for me to give to my guests.

Overall:
I had a beautiful wedding dinner. I had no regrets choosing Meritus Mandarin (Belvedere). Service and Food was great. It was really money well spent. My relatives even commented that this was the best gathering they ever had. We all had fun. The atmosphere was just right for a wedding. We had such wonderful memory and all this was made possible with the assistance of the staffs in Meritus Mandarin. Meritus Mandarin sets up a room to show all potential couple their available designs which give the couple a better visual of the theme they wanted. They even had video prepared unlike other hotels that provides only pictures.

To all Meritus Mandarin Staffs who helped in my wedding: A BIG Thank You!

just made a booking for the Reception Hall.
Am glad I finally found a venue that can fit my capacity! looking at min. 15 table to 18 tables.

good thing is they have a wedding showroom, where i can see the items that will be used for decorations. Wedding favors not that attractive, but overall package is pretty good deal.

my wedding date: Jan 26th 2008

Roxzanne> Reception hall is not too bad. It looks like a mini ballroom. Only downside is there are four pillars there. But if you do not take the Maximum tables, it should be ok. As the tables can be laid and spread out without obstructing the view. I am looking at 15-17 tables, so it will be just nice and not too cramped. I took some photos of it... if you want to see, gimme your email address I will send it.

My wedding is in 4 mths time and we met the coordinator 2 weeks ago. He informed us that wedding cards would be ready for pick-up within 1 week from then.

As for favours, choosing of flowers/deco/theme, food tasting...still not yet...I guess we can do these 1-2 mths before AD?

Anyone has reviews for recent weddings held in Mandarin Court?

so far the rates are only for until Mar 2008.
they are scheduled for some renovations works next year but unsure of which area will be affected thats why they are not releasing any pricing from Mar 2008 onwards for now...

hi kyra,
my wedding is in Sept 07, so is like another 3-4 mths onli. my new coordinator is Doreen. haven meet up with her yet. wat had you discussed when u met up with the coordinator? im not too sure when i need to meet up with the coordinator yet..

Hi lavender_sky

Mine is also in Sept 07! Are you also in the Sept 07 Brides thread?

Yes, there was a change of coordinator that's why the new guy (Dan) contacted us, initially just to say hello. Then somehow we decided to meet up as he wanted to let us know about the invites. He said will get back to us again regarding food tasting/decor/flavors. Perhaps you want to give Doreen a call?

Hi Kyra,

Thanx for the info. will be emailing Doreen to meet up to settle most of the items soon. Juz got my flat, going to be real busy if can rush in time..so better settle early. My wedding is in Belvedere.

i had been there be4 but not active over there..maybe popping by in awhile ;)

Hi Mr and Mrs Shaun Wong,

what a comprehensive review on the MM - Belvedere! Mine is going to be there too.. care to show how ur wedding dinner program goes. i'm quite concerned abt showing the montage due to the pillars..my coordindator did say usually, most couples will show it before the 1st march-in.

going to hv my ROM on the same day too..hoping that the function rm next to it will be empty on tat day.

Bridal room, tat's sad ..tot bridal show supposed to hv the best..i will make sure to remind my coordinator abt that.

btw, did ur dinner goes for their famous chicken rice or alternatives? im not too sure if its weird to have the chicken rice for wedding dinner?

hi all,

MY AD is Nov 07, tink there's a reshuffling of staffs in MM? used to be henry who is serving us, he left aready? the coordinator will call us to arrange meeting of the food tasting? or i hav to call them to arrange?

Lilian & Ivan

No leh. I wont want the 2nd night cos I have several pets at home. Due to the AD, have to send all for boarding the day before my wedding, total 3D2N. Cant bear to let them be away for one more day and night. And their boarding fees are not cheap at all =P
