The Wedding Solemniser From Hell – Cheong Yip Kwong, William

So, buckle up because I need to vent about the absolute nightmare we went through with this solemniser. His name is Cheong Yip Kwong, William and if you’re considering him – don’t.

When we first reached out, it was about a month before our ROM. We already felt bad that it was so “last minute.” He was referred by a friend who got married at a 5-star hotel and swore up and down he was super responsive and friendly. Well… our experience was the complete opposite.

We asked for instructions, and a quick video call (which is totally normal, solemnisers usually want to get to know you). Instead, he just dropped us a WhatsApp with some instructions and vanished. Every week I’d check in and ask, “when can we do the call?” His reply was always: “I will arrange.” Spoiler: he didn’t.

Fast forward to 2 days before our ROM – I’m freaking out. I message him again, and he finally says, “ok let’s have a call tonight at 8pm.”

7:55pm: he messages, “just ended another solemnisation.”
I reply, “ok, do you need more time?”
Then… ghost.

8:10pm, I call him. He picks up and says, “sorry overrun, I’m busy. I got 8 sessions back to back today.” (on a Friday night… seriously?)

I remind him, “you picked the time. If you’re late, at least let us know. We respected your time.”

He goes, “ok ok ok we can talk now. I have 20 mins.”
The “20-minute call” ended in 5 minutes. His only line: “just follow the instruction on the WhatsApp I sent.”

I ask, “don’t you want to know anything about us? Is there anything else we should prepare?”

His response: “no just follow the process, ok I going for next session already.” Click.

Then the next day – get this – he suddenly messages us telling us to print our own marriage certificate so we can sign. We don’t own a printer. We asked him why he’s dropping this bomb on us the day before, when we had repeatedly told him we’re first-timers and don’t know the process. He ignored us for 2 hours.

Finally he goes, “ok I printed.” By then, we had already lined up a backup solemniser. Because honestly? Being ghosted and treated like an afterthought for weeks was too much.

We then informed him that his presence is not required the next day and guess what, for the first time in a month, he responded immediately and called my partner. In his words “it’s my responsibility, I want to ensure that you are in good hands, I have already printed out the certificate for you and tomorrow I only have 1 session so don’t worry.”

Where was this “responsibility” over the past 30 days? :)

Oh NOW you care? Not when we were chasing you for a month? Not when you hung up on us in 5 minutes? Not when you treated us like filler between your “luxury” gigs? Spare me.

Here’s the tea:

• If you’re a 5-star hotel couple with 200 guests, maybe he’ll roll out the red carpet.
• If you’re not? He’ll treat you like garbage, squeeze you between 8 other couples, and act like he’s doing you a favor.
• He’s running this like a factory line. Zero sincerity, zero respect, zero effort.

My partner and I agreed: we’d rather POSTPONE our ROM than let this prick stand there and ruin it.

So let me save you the trauma: Do. Not. Hire. Cheong Yip Kwong, William. Unless you enjoy being ghosted, patronized, and treated like a second-class couple because you’re not a high-roller venue.

Absolute scammer energy. Wedding day is supposed to be sacred. This guy is just chasing angbao $$$.
