Cadbury chocolate bar recalled
SINGAPORE'S food safety watchdog has ordered a recall of some Cadbury chocolate bars, saying they may contain pieces of plastic.
The decision yesterday by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) covers the 60g variety of Cadbury Boost Totally Nuts.
It is the latest setback for the confectionery giant and follows news last month that some of its products were tainted with melamine.
Cadbury alerted the authorities in Australia and New Zealand on Wednesday that some of the Australian-made Boost bars could be contaminated.
Only the bars with an expiry date of June 15 next year have been recalled in those countries and Singapore.
Importers and retailers here have been told to pull the product immediately. Consumers who have bought the bars should not eat them, added the AVA.
Last month, two China-produced Cadbury bars were found to be tainted with melamine. But by then, they had been pulled from shelves because of an AVA-
initiated ban on China dairy products, which came during the melamine food scandal in September.
The AVA is now progressively lifting that ban. On Monday, it announced that bread and cakes from China can now be sold, as well as butter, ghee, non-dairy creamer and cereal. Other types of products are still undergoing final checks and are expected to be back on sale soon.
