Sadly, I did not have a good experience with Eric Wong either.
I read a lot of good reviews online and contacted him by SMS about 8-9 months in advance (kiasu la!) and he agreed quickly by SMS and told me to print and fax the consent form to him. Since it was so far in advance, I waited until about 5 months in advance before faxing the form. Fax couldn't go through and he told me to email instead. I emailed and informed him by SMS. He said "will revert".
I waited. Waited. A month later I SMS'ed him again asking if he has received the form by email. His reply: "Have I sent you back the signed consent form?" (I wondered, you mean he didn't even know whether he had sent it back or not??) I replied "no," and he said that means he didn't receive it, when did I send?
At this point I read another negative review of Eric Wong (on another forum, similar case as Winnie's - last minute cancellation, making the couple rush to find a replacement JP). My confidence in his dependability disappeared and I decided to approach another well-reviewed JP, who responded promptly to my SMS, asked me to email the form and sent back the signed hard copy within a week!
So it's not true that a good JP has to meet you in person to sign the form. It can be done just as efficiently via email which might be more convenient for both parties. There has been quite a bit of confusion over this, but this is the truth: ROM does not require an original Solemniser Consent Form. It says so when you file your Notice of Marriage.
