Joyous: It would be better if you actually considered an Orthodontist instead. I'm with GPA, incase if you are interested.

Dear All,

I am new to this thread and will be going for my surgery early next year (as per my ortho had said). Actually is quite scared now partly because of the medical bill.

Did anyone here went to AH for the surgery?

Thanks bigman!

How long does it take for you to remove your braces after the surgery? My ortho said he will try to remove my braces by end of next year since i told him i am planning to get married in 2011..

Hello!!
I jus did a double jaw surgery about one month ago.

Some main issues
1) Slight swelling on the face
2) Numbness of lower lip and chin (may take months to recover)
3) Mouth can only open til 1.7 fingers wide (will recover in another month or so..)

Hi,

If i had braces before, it is too late to do the jaw surgery now? Any idea how much it will cost (since i don't need the braces)?

Hi shan_en,

It's never too late to do jaw surgery.. but u might have to put braces again to align the teeth properly first before doing the surgery.

in what circumstances do you go for jaw surgery?

Im in a situation that half of my upper and lower jaw shifted and made it that my right upper jaw to shift in and right lower jaw is outter...and that made my set of teeth on the right side to be shifted in.

Dentist have told me that doing braces won't help...but told me that if it didn't affect my speech or eating then it's fine.

But I just find that my smile seems "distorted"

Anyone can share the effects of after jaw surgery?

TIA!

Hi all, this thread has been very informative! I'll be going for my consultation with Dr Wu Loo Cheng from Khoo Teck Puat this coming week and fingers crossed it'll be uneventful :) . I've seen Dr Ho's name appear quite a number of times here also and I might go check him out. If all goes well I'll be going for my op in Sept. Anyone recently did this op?

Hi guys, can you apply hospitalisation leave for the surgery? Did anyone experience your hospitalisation leave wasn't approved by company because this surgery was kind of elective??

Thanks a lot for your comments.

I was told by my dentist consider this surgery because after taking out my braces last year realise my jaw wasn't align properly and also i had protruding bones (i think) out of my gums (can see them and feel them) and he ask me to shave that one down too. i'm very risk adverse lar and at that moment i was just happy teeth finally straight for soon to be wedding. but ever since then i haven't felt quite right with my mouth. my brother also got the same problem. htb ask me to go for a second opinion after the wedding but i'm worried about the down time. how long do you usually have to be out with mc for recovery? will go check the few names provided here out. thanks for the information!

ive got friends who went through braces without surgery despite their jaw discrepancies. i went through 2 times of braces treatment with 2 different specialist. i went through the 2nd time just for my wedding! i also saw how my dentist treated some severe cases without surgery. i think its impt that you go for a few opinions before deciding as it is considered a major surgery. some experienced braces specialist can help camouflage the look without surgery.
