Indian wedding Services in Singapore

Hey girls, thanks for the thumbs up on the lace shortie. I just love how it's so chic!!

Holly - agreed, silver stilettos would do the job perfectly! But hey, I LOVE your curls! I remember them from your San Fran pics and you look great there!!

Chick, Sphire - it's true, I got a gown and suit from DiGio for the photoshoot but when I was there last, their EG and ROM selection didn't grab me. But I must admit, I wasn't looking hard because at the time we were thinking of getting a lengha for the banquet. But now, we've opened up our options to include modern EG - because getting the perfect lengha for the perfect price is getting more and more difficult. I'll prob take a 2nd look at Di Gio's selection but if I can't find the purrrfect outfit there, I might consider renting it from other BSs.

The problem is I've been scouring websites and all the long EGs are looking the same to me - and none of it really grabs me!! So that's why I was thinking of something short and chic!

Lisa - sure, will email you.

Sphire - you know what, that makes 3 of us who have a thing for Victorian designs. Shantair, you and I. That's so fab that your gown will be ready so soon. You must be terribly excited!! But as for a Ceylonese programme, it's even more elusive than a Singaporean South Indian programme. hahahah!

Rany- ah..ah, my hair was still straight then and all i did was used a curling iron to curl the bottoms. My natural hair is freakin frizzy curly all over!! I wish i had wavy curls instead..oh well..at least i have hair to play with...hahaha

Yesterday, i made fish curry for lunch and the fish all broke apart, it's frustrating that i can't get the right fish here. I am not able to look for a fresh market here, everything is all frozen stuff.

Hey, if i am not wrong..we do have some brides getting married next mth right?? How is it going girls??!! Getting excited!!!

Hey Rany, m bit confused..So u not planning to wear WG during the banquet, just EG? I thought you were looking at the short dress as a WG, not EG....

But u r rite, a lot of the WG designs pretty much the same, bustier kind..Btw, u mite see better designs if you go down to the shops...

Sphire--cant rem if mine is MTM/OTR now, i dun have the slip with me..but either way, if i cant find smthg i like, i'll MTM as well..Hey btw, what kind of sleeves do u have - cap? Do you have lace as well? How does the back look like? Quite exciting...Hehe..me KPO..

hi rany...the lacy number looks really chic...all the best in pulling it off
happy.gif

holly: wow u are cooking...i have yet to learn even though im getting married next month...don't really feel excited cos house is not ready and have to move in with in-laws...even wish the wedding was scheduled later...but nvm what to do...gotta make the best out of it...
rany: thanks so much for the programme...i did like a shorter version of it and my finace is now helping to put a design on it so that i can email all my colleagues...will send u a copy after im done...but really the rituals vary so much from website to website cos some of it i dont see it happening in singaporean hindu weddings...

Holly - U cooked? Kewl!! I hvnt even lighted the stove in my entire life except during my sec sch home econs lesson. My teacher stopped mi from being near the fire after torching a pan.

Rany - Yup... all victorians. Probably u cld check out with YC. If u want I cn help u check and ball park of ROM gown rental. Or y not tailor make one with a seamstress?... than u cld keep it and wear it for other occassions as well. Do something like Holly's wedding gown. U cn hv it long and short.
Was searching to c if I cld help u with the programme... but nothing abt Ceylonese rituals... its always hindu, telugu, malayalam.

Chick - My sleeves are not cap. They are jus a little of butterfly design. Wanted the netted back, but FH said that i'll look kind of plain from far. BS rec strings... din grab tht idea. In the end its jus a V back. I'll scan my gown design and send to u. Mi din like the common ones.. especially the tubes. Very bride wears the same.

Infinite - Agree with u. Quite a dif from various webbies. If u dont mind, cld i also hv the copy? Thanks

hi ladies,

Wow...Gown Talk!! How exciting! Sphire, it must be great being able to design your own gown. But i can imagine your anxiety about it turning out the way you want. I'm in the mids of planning my reception outfit. Sort of settled on a lehenga with a modern twist, bustier top with fish tail skirt. Waiting for my next work trip to India so that i cld take a day to scout around.

Btw, still haven't confirmed banquet venue. Considering Hyatt's Stamford room. Hope to finalise it soon.

SK - The idea of ur lengah sound kewl. Wht happened to Oriental? I thot u've already decided on it? Excited and worried abt my gown.

hi Sphire - thing with Oriental is that we can only use the Atrium cos we arent expecting more than 200 guests. But hubby doesnt like Atrium. Its too narrow for him and can hardly fit 15 tables if we want a dance floor. Visited the Atrium when they had a wedding set-up and found that many people's view will be blocked because of the protruding pillars by the side. And we cant have the ballroom. *sigh*

SK - Oh gal! I thot we'll hv the same plc. Is hyatt's stamford room good? heard the hibiscus room is a hit. But got to admit. Hyatt's package was awfully great. If u really like the room at hyatt, u shd go for it. Their package is great, food the best. I almost signed Hyatt on the spot. Who is ur corrdinator at Hyatt? Mine was Li Lian. Very approachable and pleasant. Find Oriental is off the budget. But the service and ballroom was wht I was looking for.

Yeah, i wasn't quite impressed with the Satmford room as much as i was with the Hibiscus. If Hibiscus or the Garden terrace were available, i would have confirmed a long long time ago. But comparing the size of the Atrium and Stamford Room room, i think Stamford's better. Going down to view during a wedding set-up. Keeping my fingers crossed that its nice once decorated & hubby will be happy. And yes, it helps that the package is the best so far!! ;p

Sphire - kool will be great if u dun mind sharing design :-)

Btw gals, just saw the papers today on holiday-ing in delhi..really feel like taking a break from work n going....

Sphire, I sure hope so.

Hubby and I have decided to go with Jayce of Jayce photography for both the wedding n banquet. Any recommendations for videographers?

Need to find a MUA now. Could you ladies email pictures of your trial with the various MUAs? Will be a big help. Thanks!! [email protected]

hi girls...oh yes..been learning to cook alittle.
But i am so sick of the same dishes...and of course my poor husband has to eat whatever i cook..hehehe

btw, i finally did my halloween shopping and am going to be a trooper girl. I'll be at the Halloween parade tomorrow evening...my very 1st halloween EVER!!

Big hello to everyone...Am pleasantly surprised to see how this thread has blossomed! 3 weeks to my big day and there are a million things to do! Not sure if i can keep my head on till then.

Just thought I'd say my quick hellos and give an update. I had my makeup trial with Shanti recently and she was really great. The makeup was very natural but really brought out my features. She doesn't have accessories, which is one minus point from the cost standpoint. But she did spend an afternoon with me shopping for accessories. (And I ended up spending a hefty sum so keep that in mind if you are undisciplined like me : )!) It was really usefully as she was able to tell me how to bring out my best and what suits me.

I also found a great decorator. He is so passionate he is even coming to the hotel to help me pick my settings and things (even though he is not involved in any of the hotel stuff). And I’ve gotten him to do all my flowers from the cars, to bouquets to corsages for both the temple and the reception. Honestly it is a whole load of my hands! Let me know if anyone wants his contact and I’ll be happy to oblige.

Does anyone have a good JP to recommend?

I have also not gotten my garlands yet so any suggestions for options other than Jothi Flower Store will be most welcome.

Holly - Hey there! Happy Halloween!!

bridezilla - WOW! 3 weeks to go? I've got butterflies in my stomach just thinking about what you must be going thru. All the best. I would love to know where you went accessories shopping and your decorator's contact. Do drop me a line when you can. Thanks! And all the best with the final details! [email protected]

SK - Updated ur info. Thanks.. yup its at the back. Jus crossing my fingers abt the gown. Its mainly the sleeves that gives a different look. Other than that it'll be a normal tube gown. Actually cant wait to c the gown.

Reena - Updated ur info. Yup... my AD is 6mths later. Its brought forward to compliment the hse grant and also to split cost.
It doesnt matter how ur wedding is but how u live ur married life after that. My wedding plans is wht my FH and I hv been wanting and planning for yrs. We r together for 8yrs. So this is a treat for the long wait. But actually kinda regret. Spend so much for 1 day afair. Next yr i'll be drained like u.

sphire - 8 YEARS????!!! that's amazing......i could never pull one that long......5.5yrs was a huge struggle n we still went our separate ways in the end.....

the gown really looks perfect.....such a sweet elegant design n ya i agree that the sleeves r real highlight....wat color r u hafing it in....??? classic white? or something else?

Thanks, Sphire. Have a meeting at Hyatt to view the ballroom again later this evening. Keeping my fingers crossed. I really want to settle the venue asap. Wow, 8 years is a long time!

Bridezilla, Sarah, Infinite & Reena....you gals must be really excited with the date drawing closer and closer. All the best, girls!

wow shipre that is such a beautiful dress.. something i always visioned when i think of a wedding gown. Oh well, won't be having a gown though, but will deff have to get some photos in one for my photographs.. i'm sure it'll look amazing!

SK, my weddings tentative for the 15th or the 22nd of July so we might share the same wedding day... am just so glad we've gotten it down to two options from none...

Thanks ladies for comment on my gown. Jus crossing my fingers tht it'll be jus like I expect. Cant wait.

Reena/ SK - Yup 8yrs... long road down the courtship. We respect each others private space... i think tht's very impt. Most relationships fail becos couples dont understand that they need their own ways of doin and moving. He does things his way.. I do in mine. All matters wht comes in the final. Chemistry do fade off as yrs goes by. Sometimes I'll remind him on how he used to do something and now its missing. Then he'll come up with something more cuter. We hv never quarrelled in person. Over the phone we have had big arguements but the moment we c each other, we jus laugh it off. Thats us and the secret of 8yrs. Thot of holding back to 10yrs... but parents din allow.

Reena - My gown is gona be champange I think. Not too sure exactly.

SK - Hope u settle ur venue. Hyatt is really a good catch. Go for it gal.

Kismet - Did u sign up with any bridal?

well....sphire....words spoken like a true expert n veteran....n i totally agree with u!! respect n trust go hand in hand....n without them, might as well not bother.....

Hi Sk, venue still in the decision making process, two fav options at the moment, SSC or grand coporthorne..but still looking at other places in the mean time.

Am deff going to India to do my shopping, most prob in March, mums going down this weekend so she'll scout for home accesories like bed sheets etc, wedding crads and decorations for me and the rest i'll do when i go down. Depending on the time of the wedding, if we do the wedding during the day then will stick to a suit but if its in the evening then will wear a lehenga.. still undeceided, think going there and actually seeing the options will help me deceide. What about you, what are you wearing and have you done your shopping yet?

Sphire.. 8 years, respect! its so true, its abt giving each other enough space. Champange gown, wow.... as for a bridal, no i haven't signed up. Don't think i will either.. lets see. Am more worried abt sorting out the main day, don't have much time left.

And bridezilla, thanks for the contact.. am curious to know what he's charging you and for what.. if you rather not, its cool. Thanks again though!

SSC is Singapore Swimming Club at Tanjong Rhu.. has a really really beautiful ballroom, up to par with most hotels etc. I really like GCW, but being that I might be looking at 500 - 600 people, it might not be within my budget. Oh well, lets see.

hi ladies,

Sphire - I love the colour champagne! My ROM sari was champagne gold with fuchsia accents. I'm sure your gown will be gorgeous. I totally agree with what you said about relationships. Its about giving each other the space we need. Nothing is smooth sailing in all relationships. We are bound to have our ups and downs. But i must say what works for my relationship is that no matter how bad an argument we have or how angry we are with each other, we talk it out and make peace by the end of the day. We dont go to sleep angry, and that certainly helps alot.

kismet - Yeah, i've attended a wedding dinner at SSC and it is nice. It should be able to accomodate your crowd too. Btw, u've got the permission to have a sikh wedding outside the temple?
As for the wedding outfits, i'm gonna wear a traditional lehenga for the 'phere' in the temple and for the reception i wanna wear a bustier top with a fish tail skirt, lehenga ensemble. I'm off to India later this month for work and might want to take a day to scout around. As its wedding season in India now, i hope i find what i'm looking for. But the sad thing is i'll be alone and this sort of shopping is best done with mom and sisters...

Speaking of receptions, hubby and i have decided on Hyatt's Stamford Room. Finally! Sphire dear, Do you mind updating my banquet column in the table? Thanks!

HI ladies,
The ROM went well and we had a great time. Thanks for all the help...

Infinite: my grandma bought me a hand bouquet for ROM. Not my taste, but i decided to go ahead with it.

Kayla : i think we both have the same pg and same temple.

Now gotta start on planning for my temple wedding on 3rd Feb. No one has a wedding at those dates huh!

Hi Kismet,

He's doing all my decor, rental of tables and chairs, and flowers for 2 events (and 2 bridal cars). May not be nice to say exactly how much.I guess it really depends on the type of stuff you are looking for and how elaborate you want it to be. Its good to shop around and see..And also to have a budget and get whoever to work round it. For me, the package he tailored was much less than the numerous florists/decorators/event planners i contacted for quotes for the kind and quality of stuff I was looking for. Plus, it turned out he did so much value add.

On a seperate note, Shanti didn't charge extra to come shopping but i guess it will also depend on how busy she is.

Thanks heaps bridezilla.. just needed an idea and you deff seem happy which is very promising. Will deff consider.

SK, do you need permission do have your sikh wedding outside the temple? Please advise. I personally know friends who have had their weddings outside but none of them mentioned having to get formal approval. Though i was planning on getting help from the temple though.

Jini, glad to hear your ROM went really well, forgot where you said you were doing it. Where was it again?

Jini - Glad it went well! Share pics!! [email protected]

kismet - I'm no expert on this issue. Its just that i thought you might have checked with the temple and got the granthi to agree to conduct the wedding outside the temple, before confirming and booking your venue. Its better to be sure about these things because if you are looking to have a sikh wedding, you would need a granthi from the temple right? I remember reading an american forum recently about a sikh girl looking to hold her wedding outside the gurudwara and someone else replied saying that it would not be allowed.

http://www.indianweddingsite.com/chat/viewtopic.php?t=423

I hope the same doesn't apply in Singapore. I remember attending a Sikh wedding in Alkaff Mansion years ago. If you have friends who have had their weddings outside the temple recently, you might want to check how they went about it, just to be sure and avoid any last minute surprises.

SK - Congrats on the venue confirmation. Too bad that we are not from same hotel. Wanted to ask u abt Oriental service after ur banquet...kekeke. So mean ah? Have fun shopping gal.

Jini - Congrats on ur new checkbox... 'Married'.

Bridezilla - wow! That looks like a huge load off u and onto ur decorator..kekeke.

Thanks SK, good point.. Really have to look into it too. Just assumed because others had done it I should be able to. But its best to be 100% sure eh. Thanks again.
