Indian wedding Services in Singapore

Gals...thx a lot...ya i guess the Malay boutiques wld be a good start for decoration...will try to find time to take a walk down Arab Street.

Oriental for a start i'd like to know wat do we get for rooms, favours, decor, musicians, corkage, etc. I have not had time to source ard so gonna rely on u gals and decide on Oriental..save me the hassel of going ard researching...sorry for picking on ur brains. Too busy wid my luncheon planning.

I'm having a luncheon day before my dinner reception. Luncheon is gonna be a huge affair tats y gonna get a hall and cater food but need to find a hall tat can accommodation abt 400pax. Any suggestions. Has to be ard town and accessible. The folks are too concern abt guests' transportation.

Hi SK saw ur pixs...NICE..CONGRATS.Whr was ur engagament?

Thanks, AprylBride. My engagement was in July. As for Oriental, you could just write to them and request for a package. They'll send you one accordingly. Just specify what you are looking to have. But most importantly, you have to check on the availablility of the ballroom on your given date. I assume your date is fixed since your wedding is only 6 months away. The package sent to me quoted the basics like 1 night's stay, choice of favours and decor, corkage for all alcohol brought in. You then have to negotiate the terms when you go down personally. I guess its different for everyone as we all look to have different things. You have to try and negotiate what is important to you. For example, i see you might be looking to have musicians etc. This will be something you have to discuss with them. Dont think its provided as part of the package.

Hey all - thanks for the tip on who walks down the aisle with the bride.
happy.gif

Infinite - Love the sound of your beige wedding saree!!! Eeks...sometimes I still wonder if the maroon/emerald green we bought is right for my skin tone or should I have gotten something lighter like gold or beige. A girl's never quite contented, is she! ;)

Chick - yeah, still on for meet-up! How does a Thursday sound? Or do you prefer a Friday? I'm good with 14, 21 and 22 Sept. Let me know if you're looking at other days eh? Sphire, can you make it? You mentioned you've been busy with work these past few days. What about the rest? Anyone keen on a meet-up??

AprylBride - you've got mail! They don't provide cars though. You have to rent your own. The only venue I know that'll let you have a car as their package is the Pinez - replace the z with an s (theirs is a Bentley). Some bridal studio packages also have cars included. But that's only if you need a bridal studio pkg. As for decorators, here are some:

http://www.delicatematters.com/index1.htm
http://www.redbox.sg/products.php?cat_id=36
http://www.greenpointflowers.com.sg/htm/services.htm

Like what Sphire recommended, because you want more fabric, you could try the malay bridal decorators. Here's a link to some of them:

http://www.urusanpengantin.com/directory/dekorasi.php

Sphire - Thanks for updating dear and don't worry about the dad. He's not insisting is he? I am trying to adopt a new approach to all these unfavourable comments and preferences made by family. If they are not insistent or making demands, then I'll just consider it white noise.

Hey Rany, thx got ur mail. Looks good to me will work on tat.

Hey SK i meant where did u have ur engagement party. I'm looking for venue for my luncheon babes.

Hey moving a step furhter...anyone planning honeymoon. Any suggestions??? Dun wanna do Aust/NZ (studied in Aus and am a PR). Not Asia, been to ard Indo, Thai, etc. Somewhere to lay back and be lost in the Husband...'wink wink'

hey rany, my first sari (the one i tied for the engagement is emerald and maroon as well! wont u have a change of saris for the wedding...maybe u can change into a lighter one after that?

sphire: yeah gal sometimes its better to keep parents and in laws as far away from the wedding preps as possible cos it leads to so many
complications...i've tried but failed
happy.gif

Aprylbride: i've seen malay wedding decorators' work and its simply fabulous with lots of fabrics to add class to the venue...one which i came across (if i find the link i'll forward to u) made a hdb void deck look like a hotel ballroom with maroon fabrics and even chandeliers! god knows how they maanged that
happy.gif
my friends one in a cc was also nicely done...if u interested can check the contact from her and let u know...she said hers was pretty cheap and it was themed green and white for her...

skbride:delhi sounds lovely
happy.gif
hope u get good deals there!

Sorry, AprylBride. Misread your message :p.
I had it at the Legends Fort Canning. At their pricing, you might as well hold your luncheon at a hotel ballroom.

honeymoon...both husband and i would love to go hawaii...since i can check out the volcanoes for my geog lessons and husband can check out the bikini babes;) but we prob have to postpone it to the june hols since the house may be coming at the same time and we have to handle renovations...
aprylbride: if u want something exotic then how about south africa or maldives...heard good comments abt both destinations...

hey infinite...it'll be great if you could get me the contact. REally dun wanna spend too much on my decor cos i'm gonna pay a bomb for my dinner. My guests love their alcohol and wines so gonna have to spend a fair bit on beer, liquor and wine. Panicking now cos from the oriental package i understand no duty free liquor allowed!!!!!

Hey infinite Hawaii is great actually no Maui is great. Was there last yr and was just amazing cant stress the word A--M---A---Z---I--N--G enuf. I think Hawaii is as beautiful and probably cheaper then Maldives so u shld really make plans to head there.

Been planning Maldives but with the prices increasing every year...looks like next yr is up again...CRAZY... i must look at other options. My fiance is the one planning Maldives but now tat he is travelling so often i've taken over the duty to source ard. Was planning a cruise to Greece but he doesnt wanna do any touristy stuff so tat was throw out. Really lost now...south Africa..uhhhhhhhmmmm dunno man will check it out. Will keep my options open. Keep flooding me wid suggestions.

SK Legend is ex for lunch... i checked wid them too but not willing to pay like 50-70 per head. So will keep looking for rental venue and cater.

Apryl- For Oriental perks, it depends when and which room u r book your banquet. The perks vary for weekdays, fridays and weekends. Check this link http://www.mandarinoriental.com/hotel/509000282.asp . Its the packages offered by Oriental. Hope it helps.
As wht I know, Pines provides Bentley and Raffles Town Club provides Rolls Royce. Wont rec RTC to you. Service is jus sooo terrible.

Wht sort of place are u looking for ur Luncheon? U may want to consider Cheverons? Its holds up to 350 to 400 or slightly more. Their package is abt $30 - $40 per pax. But location is in Jurong. Went for a friend's solmnization on Sat at Kalsa. Noticed that the Civil Service Club beside looks quite presentable.

Rany - If its jus 1 time, I cld turn deaf. But knowing his dad, cld only expect the worst. Regds to date... cn I confirm later? Now my schedules are in a mess.

Infinite - If we tell parents to keep off, must be prepared for WW3...kekeke

Hey Rany, i actually prefer a Friday..more relaxed since its weekend mode :-) U ok with that or have other preferences? Also think we should do it after all this IMF-stuff...so anytime from 22nd Sept? Dun worry about yr saris, am sure they are nice...Otherwise can always look out for more once the deepavali sales are on :-))

Infinite - Can pass me printer/door gift contacts please? That would be very very helpful. I'll be going to Madras as well....Btw, hope u dun mind me asking, what are you planning to give as door gifts?

ALso, if anyone wants to 'tumpang' the printing of cards with me, lemme noe...

Hey Sphire..Cheer up lady, i foresee more frustrating days ahead for us as the wedding date draws nearer, so we need to keep cool yah...Btw, i havent contacted Stage4, also havent met up with William Saravenan and havent finalised VG...Losing steam..Agree with Rany and Infinite, just want to get it done soon....

AprylBride - do u have budget for luncheon? Does it have to be Indian food? How about Marriot/Conrad/Traders etc? ACM only fits 150pple

Hello ladies,
How have u all been lately? Wow u are guys are getting more and more efficient by the day...thats great dearies...welcome AprylBride...

Rany- About the wedding traditions, my mum read the website and said that the closest one would be the tamil iyer community...most indian singaporeans follow them according to my mum...

I am feeling a bit unwell...don know maybe i am homesick...hehehe...or maybe i am restless since i cant get my hands on the wedding planning until i return...buts its so nice to relax with my FH!!! Actually b4 i came to london, me and my mum went thru some rough patches regarding my wedding...our opinions totally differed man! luckily i came here in time b4 the arguments escalated...so going to keep a low profile for a while...why cant everyone be like our dads? very calm and collected and always have practical advise to give....sigh...

Talking about wedding sarees...my MIL just came back from india and she bought 3 sarees for me(for bangle ceremony, wedding & maami saree)...even for that, my mum made some noise! she wanted everything to be done near to the wedding and she warned me not to look at my wedding saree...Such Spoiler man! she killed the enthusiasm in me...Realising that, my FH every now and then tells me a bit about the saree...so irritating! everyone knows that i am so bloody curious to know....So i went to ask my MIL...she said that the saree was specially made in Kanchipuram for me and its GOLD&RED! Uponing hearing that, i just hugged her and broke down in tears! I don know why i got so emotional...When i heard the price, i almost fainted! It felt real good to know that my IL care for me that much...I am sure u ladies feel the same when yr FH's family does something special for u
happy.gif

hi all, sorry been MIA for so long...work is just killing me. It was so good to read all your posts, looks like everyone's wedding plans are well underway
happy.gif
i have a favour to ask of you wonderful ladies. I'm flying to delhi this fri to do my wedding shopping. gonna get my sarees, lengha and accessories there. I need some advice on the shopping areas and any particular shop that has value for money outfits. if any of you have been to delhi and can advise can you pls direct me to the shopping areas...first time there. i'll be going with my parents. and my MIL agreed to let me choose my own sarees there. I'm so glad cos last year she made me cry in haniffa textiles....she was being such a bitch. now i ust have to figure out how to hide the clothes from my MIL n SILs cos knowing them they'll go and buy something in the exact shade to wear at the wedding. sigh. hate mind games.

Kayla- I'm so glad you have such a thoughtful MIL, i'm sure u'll look resplendent in what she got you
happy.gif
wow she really went to alot of effort for you man! hugz

Infinite - guns, tell me about complications cos every cook wants to spoil e soup! grrrrr..... but i'm glad you like what your PIL got you. hey do you have to buy a lot of jewellery to wear? i'm frightened at the amt of gold dad has to buy for me...i really don't want it but fiance's family are e super traditional type and they will scrutinise whatever i wear...
as for honeymoon, we're planning to go to new zealand and australia. We're eyeing this package tour tt includes both countries for 12 days for about $2600/pax without taxes. Waiting for NATAS to book. You should go to hawaii, my parents said its simply AMAZING
happy.gif
Can't wait for your wedding in DEc
happy.gif

Wedding invitations - i'm getting samples in delhi then my dad will be printing them for me. he's got a printing press in malaysia so its heaps cheaper than printing in sg. you guys should check out this site it's called parekh cards.com and you can order samples online and print in m'sia to save money
happy.gif
it'll only cost a dollar for something really elegant n grand.

wedding dais - someone mentioned malay decorators. dunno if you gals understand malay but there's a malay directory for all services.
www.lelamanperkahwinan.com
www.majalahperkahwinan.com

i have copies of malay wedding magazines. some of the dais are so gorgeous....the malays are the best when it comes to deco. last weekend they had a wedding expo and the dais were all so beautiful and grand.

Wedding favours - Those of you who can drive, try going to this place in JB called ayer hitam. it's the wholesale area for wedding favours
happy.gif

i'm only left with looking for a videographer now...can't seem to find a good one..any lobangs? I dun want Chinese as I feel they can't capture the essence of Indian weddings....

I'm so excited about my India trip am really looking forward to shopping there cos I heard the selections fabulous. So ladies
happy.gif
for those who know the places in delhi, pls do let me know!!! thanks all, have a good week ahead!

just read the much older posts that i have missed.
yes mabel looked absolutely gorgeous on her wedding day and i strongly recommend wearing the dots on the forehead cos it really gave an added touch of class.

infinite - really hope you win the battle on the plait cos SIL told me the thing can weigh almost 2 kilos!!!!! so hope to see u in a bun in Dec. besides, u dun look very traditionally indian, think a bun would make u look gorgeous...very contemporary...

make up artist - i had shanti as my MUA for my engagement. She was on time for my trial but she came late on the day of my engagement...and although i was happy with her makeup, i was upset tt she left without telling me and when i needed her for touch-ups for photos she was nowhere to be found. Later she told me tt she wasn't feeling well and had to leave.
I liked shanti cos she has a great personality and her makeup is really good. but i think she's raised her prices and since she gonna charge me extra $100 for every change of outfit, i'll be paying a ridiculous amount. I'm going with a MediaCorp MUA...gonna go for trial next month.. her make up is more modern but as she's malay, i dunno if she can capture the Indian look
sad.gif

hi PB,

I've got some places recommended by others who have gone shopping in India. These places seem to be 'the places' to shop in Delhi. Do check them out. Would have loved to check them out if i had time in Delhi for shopping...

For Invitations:
Go to CHAWRI BAZAR (pronounced CHAWDI) and find yourself a nice card. It is located near Jama Masjid. Chawri bazar is this long & narrow street filled with ridiculous amounts of rickshaws (forget taking a car into that street!).Chawri bazar also has a million card shops and each card looks prettier than the last one.

For Clothing:
KAROL BAGH

Frontier Bazaar - which is a large store on W.E.A. Padam Singh Road.

Ushnak Mal/Mool Chand on Hardian Singh Road (Wedding Sarees & Lehengas)

The Perfection on Hardian Singh Road - right next to the store above - also in the same bldg as "Tanishq" (lehengas)

Ram Chandra Krishan Chandra aka RCKC...forget the street name (more sarees)

CHANDI CHOWK - its also a pretty decent place for shopping

Shalu Sarees

South Extension:
Nalli Silk Sarees
F-Block, No 44, South Extension
Part 1, New Delhi
24629926

CTC Plaza
F-42 Kilokari, Near Ashram Chowk
New Delhi, 110014
26342824

For: JEWELRY

Its important that you ask family members/relatives for a store that they usually shop from b/c reliability is very important for such huge purchases.

New Kapoor Jewelers in Krishna Nagar.

Tanishq.

FOr COSTUME JEWELRY
there is a store right outside of tanishq in karol bagh . but there are tons of stores for that in k. bagh.

CHOODIS
again, like chawri bazar...there's only one great place for choodis. its in Janpath (near Connaught place) right behind Hanuman Mandir.
you have tons of options and the choodis are dirt cheap!! you can bargain if you want, then they're basically free...seriously...don't go anywhere else.

OTHER SHOPPING
Go to Janpath and Connaught place for nice little gifts and home decoration.

Hope to have been of some help...

wow...theres like so much info! the thread is moving so fast
happy.gif

aprylbride and chick: i'll get back to ul on the contacts soon cos i gotta ask my friends and PILs

Chick: PILs bought this little container which can be used to put either sweets or laddu and later to put anything else. at first they wanted those with little mirrors and beadwork but they said it was too heavy to be shipped in since it was 800 so they settled for the silver containers.

PB: I dont have to wear THAT much gold because MIL knows i hate yellow gold...so possibly 2 chains and mainly im gonna use the temple jewellery set for the wedding so lesser actual gold itself la..and most of the gold which im wearing is bought by my MIL rather than my mum cos she LOVES gold and loves to see ME wearing it
happy.gif
but she was also nice enough she bought me alot of white gold stuff as well which i wear more often...and shanthi seems late sometimes but she was punctual for mabels one and im praying hard she is punctual for mine as well cos i dont need horrid makeup by some other person to add to my miseries on that day...

Kayla: i din know there was a tradition that u cant see ur own wedding sari...if there is im sure my super traditional mum would have told me but she didnt
happy.gif
then how are u gonna get the blouse done and get the accessories? and yup i feel so touched too when my MIL goes out of her way to do things the way i like..thought she is still sticky abt certain issues e.g. bun vs plait which is still pending...both of us are not mentioning anything abt it seeing who gets their way eventually but i think ill try to accomodate since she has been so nice abt so many things...sigh...

Hi Infinite,
I don know dear...my mum said its unlucky to see one's engagement or wedding saree...I feel that its irrelevant in today's society....usually, they will take a sample saree blouse from the bride to tailor and as for the accessories, the Groom's side will show the saree to the Beautician so that she can bring the necessary stuff. if they don, they will usually tell the bride the colour so can that she can do accordingly. If i intend to wear the plait, then i will wear the temple jewellery set. Besides that, i will wear the gold from my ILs and Parents...So troublesome right, why hide such crcial info? Thats why i keep getting into arguments with my mum...Sigh...

oh my..wonder why our mums are still stuck in the traditional era while society has moved on...sigh...nvm im sure the sari would be gorgeous and u can get a pleasant surprise on that day
happy.gif

Apryl - Sorry.. missed out ur post on alcohol. Think all hotels dont allow duty free. Its the ruling in Sg. Did u collect duty free wines specially for your banquet? I wanted to do that... but luckily din.

Chick - Friday wld be good for mi too. Probably after IMF too. This time must really meet. Now got more things the discuss. I'm intending to get mordern indian cards for by banquet to give to relatives. Need abt 100pcs. If need be... i'll piggy back on u cn?..kekek
My ILs, instead of getting wht i'm comfortable in, they always gets wht they like. I'm starting to voice my views at my ILs. Also started complaining to my FH abt his family which I hvnt done in the past 8yrs. Feel so bad but no choice.

Kayla - Oh dear. Din knw such tradition that u r not suppose to c ur wedding saree exist. My mum is telling mi to make sure I choose my own saree rather than MIL. Even my mum knws MIL taste cannot make it. Urs sound very pretty.

PB - Great to cya again! U r using this malay MUA for temple wedding? Will u be putting the traditional pleat?

Infinite - U r lucky to get very understanding ILs.

Infinite - Thanks in advance for the contacts :-) Btw, did you have the card design in mind before your PILs went to India? Or did they co-ordinate while they were there? Jus wondering what is the proper sequence of doing things...Hey u have 800 guests? Which temple are u having the wedding? My worry is that the stage is so overcrowded it may get claustrophobic...

Sphire:- Will pass u the long overdue dvds as well. No probs...if i can help with some of the cards or anything else while i m in india, thats fine..i hv to do mine anyway..Have u contacted / viewed william saravenan pics? How abt VG? M undecided....

PB - Have fun in Delhi..Hope u get all the stuff u looking for :-) Let us noe how it goes k..

Kayla - Lucky u..Red + Gold sounds lovely. I am thinking along those lines too..Told my FH that me n mum will choose the wedding saree that ILs are supposed to buy..hehe

Chick- Nope din contact William after that. Also hvnt contact VG. Since they r indians cn delay abit la. *So bad*. Probably in Jan.
Yes yes.. the DVDs...kekeke.

*gulp* so many posts in just one day!!! how to respond??? hahahah!!! but really, it's great to see the place in full swing.
happy.gif

Sphire & Chick - Sure, after IMF is a good time. I'm good with Fridays too. Tentatively 29 Sept?

Apryl - If you want beer and wine in your pkg, Hyatt's got some good deals.

Kayla - My mom was harping about how we bought the sarees too early too. We bought them in Aug when the date of the wedding had been tentatively set for Sept next year. I told her that since my fiance was only going to be in SG that August and then again in April next year, we only had these months to get go get them. And since, they now have the Deepavali shipments in, it's better to buy them now than in April. Then she says "Well you could have paid for them and left it at the shop until the time where you need to make the blouse". And I said to her what difference does it make?? It's not like it's unsafe in my closet!!! She still refuses to acknowledge that and calls me stubborn. Grrrr......

But thanks for the tip about the wedding rites. Will look at the Tamil Iyer description closely. Btw, I'm with you on the whole MIL thing. My fiance's parents are so easy about the wedding planning.

Infinite - You had a maroon and emerald for your engagement too? Cool! My dilemma is the other saree we bought is an off-white stonework saree. So we thought that'd be better as the home-to-temple saree. And the dark red was meant to be the wedding saree that I change into at the temple. Did you like your maroon saree on your skin tone? Or would you have preferred something lighter? As for temple wedding favours, is there something that usually accompanies the laddu? Or do we just give one laddu a person?? I was thinking of a silver container as well! Does yours look like this?

http://www.thefrontdoor.com/jeanmtest.cfm?&iCatId=15271

PB - Good to hear fr you! I'm beginning to warm up to the idea of the dots above the brows. Because like some of you have pointed out, if it's just going to be the centrepiece forehead accessory (won't be wearing the ones that go down the sides), it would look a little plain.

Speaking of Shanti, there's a bride she did make-up for who is featured in the recent Her World bridal mag. The make-up is simple but very nicely done.

PB - It sounds horrid what the MIL and SILs do to find the exact shade of saree to wear at the wedding. I hope you manage to lead them on into thinking you've got a saree of another colour!! ;) But take your mind off all that, girl, and enjoy your trip to Delhi!!

aprylbride: the company who did the deco for my friends malay wedding was tranquil hut...ask for suzie..its in the second floor of golden landmark center near arab street so perhaps u can check out the other malay decorators as well...her number is 93895238

chick: really really wanted my wedding in a temple but it so happened that the temples were booked up for my dates and PILs booked Khalsa since that was where they got married as well...and its not 800 guests...800 cards = about 1500 guests!!!
sad.gif

they got their friend from india to bring down sample card designs, FH and i chose the card we liked so they went there with a photo of the sample and then got it from a printer there whom this friend knows as well...i guess if u have anything in mind u can choose there on the spot and get them to print there directly as well...
MIL still has not replied me with the contact will get it to u as soon as she does

rany: ya maroon and emerald will stand out more than a off white sari...actualluu i love both the saris but since i wore the maroon one for my parisam i have to wear it first and then change in to the beige one...
and for wedding favours so many ppl give the laddu as it is (one per person who comes up on the stage to wish u) but they package it nicely in either a mini bag (like mabel) or in a container (like what my PILs wanna do)
the silver container looks like an enlarged version of the one in which we usually put the saffron powder(big enough for the laddu) so it looks traditional unlike the one in the picture which looks more modern

Rany - 29 shd be good for mi... at the moment. Will confirm again.
MIL bought mi a saree that I choose. Paid $500 for it. Thot of wearing it as engagement saree. Mum said its not good to buy sarees very early and keep. Same goes for rings and thali. Probably ur mum is also following this. Now my saree is gonna be used for photo shoot.

Tht container looks good. Probably I cld consider tht too and put sweets instead of laddu. kekeke. Also thinking of pottu holder. My FH cousin gave plates for his wedding. SO my FH said we give cups.

Infinite - Whoa..1500? Good luck gal...Mine will be small..300-ish cos only FH side..

Rany - me good for 29th as well at this moment..Hey is it Sep/Oct Her world? U've signed up with Shanthi already?

Sphire - any particular significance why we cant buy sari/rings so early? me bought wedding ring in june this yr..cos thot we were getting married earlier...I find it so difficult and tiring to keep up with our parents do's/dont's..

My FSIL gave cups, with their names engraved and last wedding i attended, they gave out drawstring bags, nice for gals, but all the guys refused to hold it..hehe..

Chick - I think is like symbolising the husband will shelf wife after marriage jus like the saree and rings. Cos saree, ring and thali are the most important elements for a wedding, jus like a wife to husband. Thats y thalis are always collected 1 or 2 days before the wedding. Not sure if its true but since parents belief, jus follow.

Thanks for all the well-wishes ladies, i'm really glad to be back here too
happy.gif
always good to hear how everyone is progressing!

SK Bride : ohmigod...thank you so much! I don't anyone else can give me better directions than this! fill definitely fill my days up! thanks so much *hugz*
btw, what are choodis? i suppose i should get all my costume jewellery there huh? armbands, bangles and all
happy.gif
Seriously, i'm so grateful for your advice.

sphire- i'm indian muslim so i won't have a temple wedding
happy.gif
the nikah will be at OCC itself, just a few hours b4 the reception. MIL wants me to wear the traditional plait but it's really heavy and i have fine hair so don't thing I can take the weight. Most prob will have a chignon or something. i'll be wearing 3 diff outfits so will have change of hairstyles.. As for your sari, yah, u better choose it urself. My MIL taste actually not bad but i noticed she always makes sure her daughters have soemthing nicer....wonder who's the bride.

Rany - glad to hear you're thinking of the dots on forehead. Usually i think they look obiang, but the ones shanti did for mabel were really very very pretty. i'm sure u'll look ultra gorgeous!
As for the SIL/MIL copycat sari thing, haiz, SIL wore her wedding sari and all her wedding jewellery at my engagement so she could pass off as the bride. so irritating rite? i made a big mistake by telling her i'm planning to wear red at my wedding. she said she's also buying a red sari. how not to get fed up? seriously all the meddling from others just gives me tension and cos of that, FH n I have been quarreling...we never used to quarrel.. worse, i'm gonna have to live with his family after the wedding! *die*

All - Ladies, if there's anything you want from Delhi, just tell me and if I have the time, will definitely buy for you. Those who want wedding card samples, I can pass over to you when i'm donw with them. Anyone who wants Malay wedding magazines, i can also pass you my copies. Btw, just wanna ask, who are you guys getting as caterers? a colleague had Mangalam and apparently it was very bad. not enough food...

PB- Now mi understand... in tht case cn u still do without traditional plait rite? Jus explain to ur mum. She;ll understand.
Talking abt sarees, I've no prob that SIL will be more grander than mi cos she has married a kind of christian that cannot doll up. So no matter how nice her mum gets her, she'll still look simple. I hv told them not to wear the same colour as mi.
I've started quarrelling with my FH also over his family.

hi ladies,

PB - No worries. You are most welcome. I wish i had the chance to check out all these places for my wedding shopping. Sorry, Choodis mean bangles. Please note that bangles are dirt cheap in India and you can bargain somemore!! And yes, get all your costume jewellery there too! How long will you be in Delhi for? They can even custom make the accessories for you if you cant find something you want. Just check with them. Once you buy your outfits, bring them along to the bangle and costume jewellery stores. The people there will match them to your outfits nicely. I think if you cover Karol Bagh and South Extension, you should find everything you are looking for. Please note that specific shopping areas are closed on specific days. I know that shops at South Extension are closed on Mondays. Not sure about Karol Bagh though. Anyway, enjoy your shopping. And please share the experience once you are back. :D

Btw, since you are having a change of 3 outfits, i suggest you don't tell your SIL/MIL the colours once you buy the outfits. Although you may be planning to wear red, when you go shopping, you might actually fall in love with an outfit in some other colour. There's plenty of variety in India so dont fret! If possible dont tell them much about the outfits even if they ask. Tell them they have to wait n see. Thats what i did with all my relatives at my engagement/ROM.

Chick - Sorri.. wrong explanation. Not suppose to buy saree/rings very early cos wait there'll lots of hiccups during the wedding preparations. Even for child birth. The infant gets its first shirt only after entering the world. Old grandma tales. Looks like our mum's will be last to follow. Guess when its our kids marriage, we'll be more open minded.

Sphire/Chick my budget for luncheon is only 30 per head and Indian food, most likely North Indian.

Sphire Chevron is definitely too far, cannot consider. We both leave close to city. By the way what's ur take on Kalsa. How's the decor, ambience, food.

For your question on duty free liquor... i'm not too concern abt wine but i've collected lots of liquor when returning from trips.

Infinte, thx for the decor contact. Will check on tat.

PB Thx for the offer but i hope to make a quick trip there sometime soon. Hopefully i get the time but you can definitely help me get invite samples (soft copies so u can mail me) with pricing. Tat'll gimme a comparison for printing in Jakarta or KL. Was thinking of finding printers in these plcs.

Well ladies need more assistance.... anyone has contact for freelance videographers to coordinate my story. I wanna do a montage but wid past videos from my handycam...

hi Sphire..thanks for the explanations..honestly speaking..what's the definition of early (1 mth, 2mths, 6mths etc)...hehe..

Anyway i just bought the Style Wedding Mag...lotsa ideas in there..must take time to read..they've featured vasanthi (think thats her name) from central..she had a disneyland wedding...Interesting..

Hmmm...seems like a v quiet day in here..

AprylBride - My parents will be hosting a lunch for the groom's side at Khalsa after the wedding since only vegetarian food is served in the temple. You get good north indian food and it should be within your budget. It may not be the grandest of places but they do set it up nicely.

Kalsa - Is still the same on the outlook. Inside the function room looked good. The deco was really nice.. but think its external decorator who did it. I think kalsa also provides free bangara dance. The couple had the bangara dancers for their 2nd march in. Looks good.

U could try SPANSjoms also. Its in belestier.

Chick - Not sure whts 'early' meant. Probably less than a yr is reasonable.

I like the Disneyland idea... too bad. Singapore only got Escape Theme Park..kkekeke
I like Vansanthi's hairdo... it was so her. I wanted that too as I'm not used to tying my hair up. FH said messy.

Read Her World Bride. Shanti's makeup looks very natural. Like the simple hairdos she has done for the bride.

sphire: will give u my details even though banguet/ ROM/ photo shoot is over

Bride: Infinite Banquet Date: 11/12/05 Banquet Loc: Raffles Hotel Banquet PG: Hilarion Goh Banquet VG: Brother in law
happy.gif
Banquet MUA: May from Golden Horse Awards Wedding Date: 3/12/06 Wedding Loc: Khalsa Wedding PG: Moorthy wedding services Wedding VG: Moorthy wedding services Wedding MUA: Shanthi Bridal: Golden Horse

while typing this i realised how the banquet details reflected the tastes of my FH and me and it clearly shows the tastes of my PILs for the wedding...

as for khalsa, according to my parents in law they said that they got riverwalk tandoor who is the main caterer there to do up the decor and provide food and etc...for 1500 ppl they charged 14 per head so i felt it was quite a good deal since they are inviting loads of ppl...and i've seen the decor in my friends one...and even thoguh the exterior of the place looks old and rundown, inside the function rooms can be done up pretty nicely cos they got loads of fresh flowers, had nice aisle decorations, had ice sculpture provided by riverwalk so its not as bad as what FH and i initialluy thought cos both of us really really wanted to get married in a temple as it feels more significant but gotta cater to our parents humongous guest list as well so this is the compromise since for the banquet we only invited ppl WE wanted

Hi girls! I dont really have much to update.

Im so sad coz my MIL said that i cant have a simple hairdo for the temple wedding.. I wanted to wrap flowers round the plait instead of having the rakudi. sighz so sad.

Hi Infinite - Hv added u to the table. Wow! U left a yr break btw ur banquet and AD. That quite long. kekekek.. yup. Can c the difference in preperation btw u and ur ILs. Raffles Hotel sound kewl. They only except small crowd rite?

Sarah & Infinite - Its kind of fustrating too. These traditions are suppose to be from india. But even in india, they are so open to the bridal deco. Dont understand y in Sg must always follow rules blindly.

hI Ladies,

Its almost 2am here...waiting up so that i can wish my auntie for her birthday...I miss my family so much...The weather's here is really getting me down. Its raining all the time...cant go out, cant stay in...Sigh...My FH and i saw the pictures of Surya-Jo wedding...we both liked the simplicity of the whole event...both for the bride & groom...cos initially my FH wanted to wear the Wedding Jibba but after seeing Surya in Pattu Shirt & Veshti, i think he has changed his mind.i too liked Jo's look...She's not even wearing any Yellow gold jewellery. Its almost too good to be true...looks like a scene from a tamil movie. I think the brides in india are getting more modern and they are more forward thinking...dON THINK my mum will agree with that kind of simple look...The brides in London too don follow the whole plait look...they don even wear henna...Aiya i don want to look so overdone for my wedding...

hey sphire: thanks gal...yup we only had a crowd of 120 for raffles and have great memories of the event...we knew that if we waited to have it this year, then prob parents and in laws will want to call more ppl since its near to the wedding so it was a good move...

kayla: yup ppl in india have moved forward in their thinking and have gone throuugh modernisation but the further we seem to be away from our home country, the more tightly ppl tend to hold on to beliefs and customs which seem to be a thing of the past...

Gosh, Jyothika looks gorgeous. Really luv the simple look, din realise she's not wearing any gold jewellery till kayla mentioned it..Gotta try my luck..see if i can get away with the simple look.Fingers n toes crossed! For all u know, this Jyothika wedding mite start a SIMPLE is BEAUTIFUL trend in Singapore..

Kayla - the weather's bit dreary at this time yah..think it'll get worse, so do keep ur spirits up..I spent most of my time in cafes and watching the musicals when i was there..hehe..It'll help if u've got some friends there as well

Sarah - sorry to hear of your situation. Girl, it's ok to vent. If only there was something else we can do for each other.

Sphire - I can see why parents say it's not wise to buy stuff to early on. It's abit like if you think you have really good chances at a job interview, you'll tend to downplay it because you don't want to jinx it by looking too much to the positives. But my mother's line of arguement is incoherent. Just with everything else she has to say. That's what's making me mad!

Btw, the silver tins, do you know of any local supplier who can provide these???

Speaking of Vasanthi, I don't actually know who she is. So when I saw her pictures in the bridal mag, I didn't think she was Indian. Until I read her name and looked closer!! Hahaha!!

Chick - It's not the Sept/Oct Her World mag. It's Her World Brides issue. Not the monthly magazine. The current issue of Her World Brides has 2 women on the cover. Btw, you found ideas in the Style Wedding Mag? Err...like what? Hee! Yup, already signed up with Shanti. Abit apprehensive though, because there's no email, no deposit, nothing at all to reference our agreement. When I asked her if she's got a contract of sorts for us to sign she says not to worry because she's got my dates down. *gulp*

PB - was that the same arrangment for you? Btw, why is your MIL insisting on the plait when you're not having a temple wedding to begin with???

Infinite - Thanks for setting my mind at ease with the maroon and emerald green issue.

Hey, for those who are having temple ceremonies, are your wedding sarees kanchipuram silks? Mine aren't. And they don't look like traditional South Indian bridal sarees and I wonder if wearing my hair in a bun with full cover from the jasmine would complement the look. I guess Shanti will be able to advise when she's seen the sarees. But its just that when she heard I was wearing sarees, she immediately said I should wear my hair either in a plait or a bun with jasmines all round it. I wonder if I can get away with a hairdo like Yasmeen (the bride pictured in Her World Brides that Shanti did the make-up for). What do you reckon, girls? Will it look "bride" enough??

hi ladies,

I read somewhere that Jyothika is muslim. Probably thats why she's dressed a little simpler than most other hindu brides? I must admit i love her diamond jewellery! Looks great! The the colour of her sari suits her very well.
